Anybody out there got one running or in bits interested in finding how many survive. Ihave a grabber lime 71 351 Boss {stripped at the moment}.

Hi ZR1368. A friend of mine in East London owned one for years up till about 3 years ago. It was a yellow 1971 Boss 351 with 4 speed manual (got a feeling they're all manual?) Damned fast though I couldn't get used to that old hurst shifter! What is it with yankee manuals? - even my zf 6-speed (I know it's a German box)in my vette is rubbery with excessively long travel.

Anyway the mustamg was in pretty good condition and was sold to a dealer in Leytonstone, E11. Never seen it since and I've never seen another Boss 351 in the metal.

Hi malc350 you right all boss 351 are 4 speed manuals i also used to own graham barrs {president of mustang owners club of GB}old yellow boss 351 reg no mhx 60L. I sold it to a guy called colin from hemel hempsted. He sold it on 5 years later but i dont know who got it now.As for the hurst shifter you get used to it after a while.

My Dad used to read all the Street Machine mags years ago. I remember loads of ads in there for various different shifters. Can you retro fit something a little easier to use? Also, do people generally upgrade the brakes and suspension to modern standards?

Hello gta yes some people upgrade the brakes,shifter etc.but on mine i'm leaving it all stock,it's too rare a car to start changing things.

Fair enough. One day I'd love to build up a Mustang or something similar from scratch and make a real show stopper from a rat. I guess it will be a very long term project over the years - to while away the summer evenings. I just need a double garage first!

Ha ha... i dont believe it. I havent seen you GTA for at least 12 years and i find you on the Mustang thread! Have you seen the new one in CAR this month? There is another thread for it so not to hijack this one!

Yep - I also love the stangs. And no, I havent seen the new one. Ford seem to re-do everything now don't they.

Nearly bought a Light Blue with white interior 'Boss 351' from a a garage in goldhawk Rd W London back in the Eighties.
Went down the pub to think it over and changed my mind over a drink,,it was only going for 3grand (which was a lot at the time)but something didnt seem right

That actual Boss 351 was tested in an edition of "Classic and Sportscar" magazine against a 1971 Trans Am 455 (quick cars those Trans Ams, I used to own one and a friend still has a 72 that runs 13.2 @ 105 mph on street tyres - automatic left in drive!)

The Boss in the magazine was a real bright "Morris Marina" blue. As for the price, who knows, all these cars were cheap and unloved in those days. I love old muscle cars but I don't know how anyone can use them that regularly - my old Trans Am used to get 6-8 mpg in "normal" driving, less when I really hit it! Plus the gearing meant that 70 mph was about 3500 rpm and top end about 130 mph (@ 6,000 rpm!)
