Which version of the game did you buy (remastered or regular?).

What system is it for?
I have the PC version and it is the full with DLC pack, not sure what its called again.

Honestly...modding is a black hole from which you will, probably, never recover. There's so much out there that you will spend more time trying out mods, working out what clashes with what, taking them off, deciding you like this ENB or that weather mod and then changing your mind, than you will playing the game.

However, there are a couple which are absolutely essential. I'm making the presumption that you're using Skyrim SE on the PC, but all of these have equivalents in the original version as well. No idea about console versions though, sorry.

1) The Unofficial Patch. Don't even think about playing without it https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mod...
2) SkyUI. The out-of-box UI sucks enormously. This makes it suck a whole lot less. https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mod...

For a first playthrough, that's enough to get you going although personally I wouldn't also be without:

That's where I'd stop - and specifically I would specifically stay away from the graphical mods, as they are so much a matter of personal taste that you'll just spend days and weeks tweaking things without actually playing the game - and of course SkyrimSE makes a lot of the quality-focussed mods redundant. Also avoid the gameplay mods, as they can radically change the way the game plays (duh) and you need to experience it in the raw, so to speak, before you can really understand what does and doesn't work for you.

The main thing though is to get stuck in and actually play the thing. As above it's so easy to get sucked into applying and reapplying mods that you can easily stop playing the game, so the best strategy really is just to not even start.
Thanks for the post, will download the UI one and map as they look instantly useful. The others such as armour etc. look good, but I think I will dabble with them when bored of the vanilla game

I only had the original game and it was not free for me for some reason.

Maybe no DLC thats why.

I put well over 300 hours into the original.

And to be honest was rather miffed when they released the new remaster and was offered not even a discount.

Ouwld love to play it again, but the cost does not justify it, kind of like COD MW, I find it incredulous really.

But thousands of idiots paid up, s guess, what it will happen more and more and more.
Haha amusing to be called one of the thousands of idiots. no regret here at all. Played on PS3 and then played again on PS4 remastered. Happy each time.

I own hundreds of physucal games. Some have cost a lot some a little. Some played for hundreds of hours and some never. Skyrim is EASY value for money even when you add up my total spend across three formats.

Most if not all mods there for Skyrim are there also for Skyrim SE, or different but do the same for SE. Also some SE versions are on the Skyrim pages such as Noble HD.

Running through my new Skyrim SE build 323 mods, 245 plugins (217 with merges), basically a build that I have never used before making it a new experience in readiness for TES6 in who knows when time. 64bit SE is a hell of a lot more stable than 32bit Skyrim ever was.

Caught some lovely ENB (Rudy ENB) assisted late in the day spooky darkness and light. You might see you way along the paths using the last of the day's light, but dare you venture into the darkness of the trees?

I got back into this the other day. Haven't played for years.

Play it through Steam so are there any quick and easy (stable) mods to make it look better or improve the game?

I'm playing the special edition as my Steam account seems to have gained it for free.

Depends on your gfx card, how much ram does it have? If it's 3GB+

Plenty on here - https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mod... <--- view by endorsements.

Difficult to recommend as I tend to split up what I want from each one and repack the textures in one.

But you want a retexture pack, maybe separate cities texture packs like JK's Skyrim or for example this Whiterun HD, weather system of which there are many but I use Obsidian Weather, grass enhancement mod and an ENB of which there are also many but choose one that supports your chosen weather and then trees Trees comparison I went with Enhanced vanilla trees (larger lush version, vurts option 4 textures) Not forgetting the essential Unofficial patch and cutting room floor.

Rudy ENB that has all weather versions - https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mod...

There's also Enhanced landscapes any grass mod installed after if needed, Unique locations and Forest of Whiterun that I have installed, which adds more to the landscape and turns the tundra into a forest, again to be different to past playthroughs.

And if you are coming back to the Nexus ignore Nexus Mod Manager it is no longer supported, Vortex is the new mod manager but I am using Mod Organiser 2 due to the way it installs mods without actually putting the files in your Skyrim data folder and easy moving of mods.

Oh and don't forget to sort your plugins using LOOT, then create a bashed patch with Wrye Bash and finally using SSELODGEN to create the lods for all your added trees and buildings.

Then before you know it you're changing everything else smile

My full mod list for the names, with my edits removed. Mod orgainser seems to list it in reverse, most recently installed first. This isn't my plugin load order but the order I have the installs being loaded into Skyrim by MO2.

Edited to add I have left the seperate Tamriel Reloaded textures in there, I extracted them from the main pack so that I could turn each one on and off to see if I liked them over Skyland which they overwrote and I kept those ones listed activated with the Osimodius SSE 2018 farmhouse walls texture in there as the activated alternative.

It's a funny old thing, personal taste. In every case I prefer the 'off' version smile

There's always one smile but with an ENB at least the nights are actually dark and not blue, same with dungeons and caves full control in game over darkness by being able to set interior and exterior light levels for night, day, dawn, dusk etc.. Better Vsync, better AA, edgeAA, better depth of field, lighting controls and subsurface scattering, so no grey shadow faces. Oh and animated stars.

...but apart from that, what have ENBs ever done for us ?!

You've got about another 150 hours minimum yet of Skyrimlaugh

I've just started playing Fallout 4 so I figure by the time I've done with it, RDR2 will have the GOTY edition released with all the DLC that isn't out yet!

That's what I do. I aim to be behind the curve by the amount of time it takes to release the Game of the Year edition.
I also wear last year's fashion.

In fact who am I kidding? I wear last decade's fashion.

In fact who am I kidding? I wear the clothes my wife buys me. And some stuff from my UNI days.

Just got this for the ps4, loving it so far.

Any tips on how to make gold and improve magicka quickly?

also is there an easier way to find out where to go on a mission, i.e. when. you go through loads of rooms in a building but end up going round in circles.

There is the only gold mine in Skyrim to the East of Markarth. You will have to take out some Forsworn and a Forsworn Briarheart then mine the gold, wait for it to be replenished (can't remember how many in game days) then mine again.

You will be needing the Clairvoyance spell, you can get it pretty early on as its a novice level spell and doesn't cost much to cast.

Thank you both.

I love this game but at equal measures it really frustrates me how it doesent explain anything at all and you have to figure it all out yourself, the amount of times ive been on youtube!

Like is there anything i should be doing to help my combat skills, im only playing on apprentice level but struggle against some enemies.

I have a elfish dagger with a iron shield as a backup when i run out of magika, but i usually rely on dual cast firebolts and flames to take down my opponent, however my opponent keeps draining my magika somehow i think as i run out very quick even wearing archmages robes and ring and chains that give me extra magika.

Im playing as the cat character.
