I think what gets me is massive horsepower, race suspension, lowered, big wheels, low profile SLICK!!!! tyres and the race is half on gravel/dirt roads that hardly slow you down? For all its faults though I have put in nearly 12 Hrs so far, so must be doing something right.
I agree a little more surface differentiation would have gone well, then there'd be a choice to make between super stuff race suspension unforgiving on the dirt or rally suspension giving you some more leeway.think the problem with rallying in general in games is that the punters dont appreciate the speeds rally cars actually go at.
Vast majority of rallying is done at less than 80mph. The only one that has tried to use the proper speeds was Richard Burns Rally and that was really hard to play/ get used to(and the load speed was bloody glacial) after years of McRae playing where you can just dart about.

All they need is a mix of courses, so wide fast ones for crappy players, narrower more realistic ones for people who want a challenge.
It's not difficult, but it just shows that no one at Turn 10 was even thinking beyond the average buyer of this game who will play it and think it's amazing.
Even TDU1 threw in a simulation unlock mode, so suddenly you could take your car onto the challenging roads and enjoy them with very realistic car grip/behaviour.
I'll admit though, GT5 got boring for me by about 30% of the way through. All the GT games do. You get to a stage where to win you need to buy slick tyres, but still run ~ 300bhp road cars. They get extremely dull to drive, and making progress through the game just becomes a task to complete in order to get faster cars which are further ruined by making them too grippy/stiff to be enjoyable...
Finally you hit the race cars but then there are better racing car games around any way.
Game devs just missing the point and catering very little for a range of users... which is actually quite easy if you just have a range of content and modes, ala TDU1 sim mode and road choice, or the older NFS games (tight twisty tracks alongside fast wide tracks)
Hmmm

Its all well and good but what about new roads? Longer highways etc. Thats what the game really needs, at least 15 miles of highways http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/gaming/news/a473084/fo...

I had a short blast on this last night, I went in and downloaded the free dlc cars. It does desperately need more roads and the handling is a little numb compared to FM4.
At least this new stuff is free ('56 F100! ) which is unlike T10 anyway, perhaps the last few car packs haven't sold quite so well and they're starting to realise why.
