I bought it second hand, but they're still fetching a lot of money... Why?
Because not many people sell theirs. I managed to get it for £4.50 though, so I can't complain!
I will never forget getting into GTA. It is, quite simply, the best game series ever.
I suppose no-one was as sad as me and my cousin though. We had the 10-minute demo of GTA1, so just kept playing that. I think it was a while before we could afford the full game.
I then remember GTA3 coming out. It was absolutely insane! Vice City will always remain a favourite though, as other's have said, purely for the music!
I almost bought a PSP for a LOT of money simply to play the different GTA games, and finally did it when it got a bit cheaper.

I've played GTA, 2, London and 3? on the PC
San Andreas on the xbox
and GTA4 on the PS3
Brilliant games - execpt GTA2
I remember getting the map pack for GTA and trying to make my own and getting the mod pack for GTA3 and modifying the cars stats so it was super quick in a straight line, but impossible to turn corners.

One thing I used to enjoy doing on GTA 3, Vice City and San Andreas was putting in the cheats "Pedestrians Riot" and "Pedestrians have Guns", it was like wandering round a war zone!
Indeed! I accidently saved the game with this cheat mode still on, and I couldn't turn it off. So I remember trying to progress through the rest of the game trying to put up with it I think GTA VC was my favourite of the bunch, however GTA3 had the most impact when I first played it. I must have been 11 or 12 when my mate first got hold of it, and he had the PS2 and I didn't. I still remember that moment where it dawned on me that I could do anything I wanted in this new glossy 3d world. Until my mate pulled the controller off me
I didn't realise for ages that it was a British made game too. Would be awesome if they did GTA London in 3d or something, but doubt it will happen. I know it has been tried before with "The Getaway" but that wasn't very good.
Now, I hate all this internet lingo, but this one is really, really deserved!

Yeah she was, I hated that mission when you had to pilot the RC planes and bomb the Cuban's boats.
Oh god, you've just reminded me of the mission where you had to fly the r/c chopper inside the construction site in order to blow up the building.I think that's about the first time I seriously considered breaking my controller in anger.
My favourite things about GTA 3 were this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0EC1VCf5eEY
