Got this at the weekend; still getting used to it tbh. The best thing about it so far are the opening titles where they've re-created some of the more memorable moments from the real 2012 F1 season so far - that's a nice touch.

Only played it for a bit and just did my first race in OZ and really like it - The car definitely wants to understeer but I find braking harder then accelerating more through the corner helps and is way more stable then the old game where the car tended to over-steer if anything... It feels way more stable at speed with DRS open now too whereas 2011 it would wonder about all over the track.

I do also find I have to drag the brake a tad even as I'm turning into a corner - especially if it's a 3rd gear type corner it's hard to scrub off enough speed to completely be off the brakes as you turn in.

I do really like it though, feels like a huge step forward from 2011 so far... Love the way the other drivers battle you too, they actually seem to have some common sense - Plus they had a huge crash at turn 3 allowing me to nip up the inside and gain 5 places with bits of broken bodywork all over the track!

Been getting up to speed with this game using the MS Speedwheel (Xbox version). Now that I'm getting used to it, it's a good compromise for someone who doesn't have the room for a full size wheel.

I used to play the game with a pad and would struggle with anything other than low AI skill settings. So, I applied this logic to the game using the pad.

The problem now is that I'm too good, so will need to update the AI skill level. I finished 11th in Australia, 4th in Malaysia, 3rd in China and won Bahrain. All in a Caterham smile.

Did Spain last night but it went wrong. Was leading but came in for tyres. Got thrown back out the pits into a scrap between Hamilton and Alonso. Alonso tried to put one up the inside, but I accidentally nudged him a little (even though his front wing was near my back tyre). I got put into the wall, but I got a penalty, of course.

I had to pit for a new nose, then pit for a drive through. I ended up running in 19th and the car didn't feel right at all. Managed to then stack it on the last lap and limped over the line with a flat front right tyre. Crazy!

Anyway, I do need to address the skill level issue.

Oh yes, one thing about this game. I'm in a Caterham but my team engineer wasn't happy when I finished 3rd. He was expecting me to win? Funny seeing the driver and the engineer moaning about a 3rd place finish for a Caterham. hehe

My Mclaren did that for 30 odd laps of a full race at Abu Dhabi and the only problems I had were a brief loss of KERS and DRS at diffrent times!

I got this at the weekend and love it.

I have not had a F1 game for a good number of years, but reading up the reviews this edition appeared to be pretty good.

So far I have just done a full season, rerplacing Pic in the Marussia team.

I am racing it on no assists bar ABS, and loving it. I love the way the cars feel up on their toes, the way you can push it, trail braking etc. For level of driving the medium difficulty is perfect so far, I am beating my team mate, but not up with the faster better teams.

Perversly I did the Bahrain GP and finished 18th, on my tod, beating the other slower teams, but unable to live with the quicker Torro Rossos and Force indias etc. That to me was fantastic.

I love the way that you can manage the tyres too, made the mistake of killing my options in Oz, and dropped places as a result. really real life like, but not stupid hard.

Only gripe is the instructions from my race engineer, its a bit samey and at times unrealistic. On a long first stint, Hamilton pops out in front of me, and I am told to pass him, as he is holding me up?? he was 1.5 secs a lap faster than me!!

overall, I really rate it. really enjoyable so far

Hi guys,

I was about to play f1 2012 after two weeks of not playing. I downloaded the latest 31MB game update and now my G27 is not working properly in the game. By that I mean all functions work except when I turn my wheel the wheel on screen only turns a little. I have to turn the wheel fully to left or right to get left and right in the game.

I changed know steering settings, and the steering works fine on F1 2010.

Anyone know if the update has done something to the steering settings?

Logitech G25 or G27, but only buy brand new. They are delicate and you dont know how well a second hand one has been treated.

Seems like my wheel problem was due to the patch. Here is codemasters official response:

There is also free run in wet and dry conditions.

Still undecided on buying the game as F1 is a bit dry to pick up and play for a quick blast.
Ah, cheers!

The game seems fine, but as a driving sim not near enough to GT's standards. I'll probably give it a miss.
I think the physics of an F1 car are slightly different to cars you get on GT. Personally the GT F1 car is shocking to drive compared to F1 2012.
Enlighten me, please?

Personally, I think the F1 car in GT is about as close as you could reasonably expect... Obviously I've never driven a real F1 car! But from taking an unhealthy interest in anything that goes too fast, and my (massively limited) experience on track, I'm happy with it. I am using a G25 with a Playseat, which kind of adds to the experience!!! Ha.

Take all of the assists off the F1 car on 2012. I think that's more like how it drives and certainly how it appears when watching the races on t.v. than GT5's attempt.

Thread resus!

I've only just got online by my GOD it's making me madmadmad

I just got a 10sec time penalty for being hit from the side, and then the offending player going off! It ruins the online gaming experience a bit frown

Well get out in front then wink If in doubt just let the race go and reclaim your man points by getting the fastest lap. That's what i do if i'm getting battered about.

After I posted I watched everyone pile into each other at the first corner and then sailed away with the win hahaha

It is infuriating though, being out in front by some margin and then to have some utter penis use you as their brake and not get a penalty. garrrrgh

Just getting into this on Xbox360 after a late Christmas present arrived. Liking it so far although I have only done the Young Drivers Test then straight on to Career mode. I need to start turning up the difficulty as my Caterham won its second race.

got it for christmas as well.

is it much different from last year, NO.

Is it worth the money compared to last years, NO.

all I like so far is the back steps out more when you floor it out of corners.

dont get me wrong its still a great game, on of the best just a bit dissapointed that its so similar.

id have liked to have seen other cars crash more, more safety cars, more input for your team about weather conditions (should you change, should you not, whos in changing)

what pisses me right off is the new bollards, you hit it and it spins your car around. they are made out of steel by the looks of it wtf and when you put two wheels on the run off areas your car bogs right down, this doesnt happen in F1 why make it happen in the game.

I found the handling's completely different from the previous game, really prone to understeer meaning i had to really concentrate on the set up for each race rather than going for a one set up fits all scenario that i was doing on 2011.

I to would like the run off and bollard thing sorted as it's just not cricket, let the car runn off and have full speed available and then if they gain a place without giving it back simply give them a penalty like they do in the real races. I'd also appreciate more interaction with the team.
