Really, it's free to index owners?
Yes."Owners of any part of the Valve Index kit, including just the controllers, will get Half-Life: Alyx free. Those who own any Index hardware before the end of 2019 will get a few bonuses, including "alternate gun skins to embellish Alyx's arsenal."

Full set, headset or just controllers.
And it's compatible with Oculus, Vive and Windows MR as well.

Wait - hang on - this is for real?? I was expecting a humourous thread bump to raise my hopes then cruelly dash them.....This will doubtless be brilliant but there's zero chance I'm investing in a load of new hardware to play a prequel when I've been waiting for a sequel for twelve years. I'll pass and just hope it eventually releases as a regular game. I suspect nearly everyone who isn't made of money will do the same. Valve must be off their rocker.

They wont be able to make Index fast enough. I'm probably just bitter. I feel this is a bit of a slap in the face for fans who have been waiting for a sequel for more than a decade, only for Valve to release a prequel, that not many people can actually play.

Maybe. It remains to be seen. There will obviously be a lot of people willing to invest, but they're also alienating a lot of fans of the series. I guess they've done their sums but it just seems a bit crazy to limit a AAA mega-budget title to such a small audience.

Technology moves on. It's always been the case that a new AAA title will often mean you need to upgrade your hardware. I'm probably just bitter. I feel this is a bit of a slap in the face for fans who have been waiting for a sequel for more than a decade, only for Valve to release a prequel, that not many people can actually play.
If your graphics card wasn't up to playing a new title would you claim that the maker was alienating people who didn't have a modern graphics card?
I think this is a canny move by Valve and could kickstart a massive uptake of VR tech.

eh was a time when PCs didnt have hardware accelerated graphics as standard and games started requiring it.
I dont see VR as being so ubiquitous though
Indeed. And, I agree. But this could be a reason to buy VR for some, and obviously they'll go for the Index if it means getting the game for free, unless there is a really compelling reason to go with Oculus or Vive. I dont see VR as being so ubiquitous though
