Odd response based on other threads CC. Not everyone wants to be the lawnmower man
True.

However, there is a difference between saying "it's not for me" and implying that anyone who is into it is a pratt ("prancing around with a box on my head")
Hopefully it wont become mainstream (like 3d tv died off) because it does make you look like a pratt prancing around with a box on your head and will lead to unimaginative games.

Really struggling now to justify spending £2k on a game and all the kit that’s needed for it... Was about to buy but seems actually mental when I stepped back to think about it....

On the fence now. How good can one game possibly be?!

Why can't the kit be used for other games?

Well it can of course but to be honest I don’t play much anymore and don’t even have a computer.

So I am in effect buying all of it simply for Alyx. Two kids under 4 means I never get a second to myself!

I seem to remember that, back in the day, I bought a PlayStation and a steering wheel simply to play Gran Turismo, but then ended up playing loads of other games too.

Now that I come to think of it, I'm pretty sure I bought a PS2 for the same reasons when the next Gran Turismo came out (or whichever one was PS2-only).

But, yes, that's a pretty big spend if you genuinely don't think you will use it for anything else. yes

Pretty much the same in our house, it’s all macs for our work, with a couple of older pcs that are used by the kids these days.

Tom plays all his games on the Xbox one which was actually bought by me for me, I bought a WiiU for Tom and all his lego games but now he’s older he’s playing GTA type games so the Xbox is long lost to him.

It’s a lot of money to pay agreed, but I just can’t not play it, I’ve been waiting for over 10 years for half life 4 and this is basically it.

So got to suck it up if you want to pay to play!

Indeed. Been waiting so long. Just think I’m going to wait a little while. Need to sort it this week otherwise. Valve index is on 8 weeks delivery at the moment anyway!

Would love if a console brought out a a good VR setup and Alyx. PC gaming is generally better but it’s a bit of a faff if you aren’t already set up. Would definitely buy a console if it just worked. I don’t care that much about the best graphics ever.

Come to think of it after we got rid of our first original Xbox , I did exactly the same by buying the bundle of the PlayStation with Gran Turismo too, and oddly enough ended up buying half life and playing That on the PS2 as well, I’m pretty sure it’s still in a box complete with all those games and peripherals in the loft somewhere.

I'm pretty sure I bought an XBox simply to play 'Halo: Combat Evolved' too paperbag

My console days are long over now though - I'm PC gaming only these days.

+1 that game was unbelievable. I played it WAYYYYY too much and Halo 2 afterwards. Xbox live when it first came out was immense.

I got an xbox to play this as well.
Great game up to the fking Library/Swarm level. I did make it out but don't think I ever finished it.

Just downloading Black Mesa. Damn.

Yes, I agree. That was a total grind of a seemingly endless 'Rinse and Repeat' of the same thing over and over again. It was the low point of the game.

There's a good article on RPS published today about Alyx, on the various supported play styles, room requirements, PC requirements, headset requirements, etc.

https://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2020/03/13/half-l...

Those with a small play area, like me, are not going to be left out - you do not need a room scale setup to play, although obviously this is better.

Just cancelled my order. Doesn't seem to be a good time to be dropping nearly $1k on hardware, especially as I have an older Vive so can still get a good sense of the game

I must admit I thought the same recently, but then if we are forced to self isolate and remain at home, what else will there be to do.

I’m leaving my order running, I need something to look forward too!

You can stay at home and play Contagion VR and get in some practice for the real world - https://store.steampowered.com/app/676840/Contagio...

Although what we need is for a developer with a sense of humour to make one where you have to fight people in a supermarket to collect toilet rolls.

Valve's Gabe Newell confirmed that Valve has several new games in development, stating that the company has a lot of "momentum" to create more single player titles after the release of Half-Life Alyx.

Could be...3. Yes......Portal 3 at last smile

I think though it would be a trolling masterpiece to release it as Half-Life 4 biggrin
