ack! I saw the thread title and was all "YUSSSSS!" and then clicked it and it's a thread from half a decade ago.
Bah.

I've given up hope that there will ever be a sequel, and if there is, it'll probably be awful anyway. Such a shame as I loved the whole aesthetic, especially HL2 and was always hoping that there'd be a sequel involving a portal gun.

Anyone tried the download yet?
Yes, Chapter 1 is the intro same as the video but you have full control as in the game. We shall see if it goes further.

Maybe I am being a bit blinkered but Half Life reset the bar for a First Person Shooter in my opinion.

Again in my opinion it has far and away the best intro to any game I’ve ever played and quite likely any game I have yet to play. My jaw stayed dropped throughout the whole train ride, and I also admit to giggling like a little girl when you meet the Marines the first time, thinking wow these guys are sneaky bastids biggrin

Personally I think perhaps many developers are put off by the challenge of HL3 given how brilliant 1 & 2 were. The re-skinning of HL1 is great and I’m all for it.

Will definitely download this.

This migh make me buy a gma brand new for the first time in years.

For me, the best game ever made was Half Life 2, the best sound, most immersive story.
Since bested by the Falloouts 3 and Vegas and then by Skyrim.

But when you consider how old HL2 was...

Amazing

I will only be interested, when it's available for sale.
Limited market though as VR only.

Confirmed, more details on Thursday - https://twitter.com/valvesoftware/status/119656687...

If it turns out to be a Bethesda/EA/Blizzard/Ubisoft stfest of microtransactions we take your money but you don't own it type of game then they will be toast.

I don't have VR and don't plan on getting it anytime soon (or ever), so I guess this is dead on arrival. Hopefully (for me) it's not an actual sequel from Episode 2 and is just some add-on VR curiosity set in the same universe. I find it hard to imagine that anyone would develop a mega-budget AAA sequel to Half-life and then alienate it from the majority of the potential audience. But then stranger things have happened.

Valve are clever, maybe a new more affordable Vive will be released to coincide with the games arrival, could draw a lot of people in.

Yeah draw people in for a few hours at christmas with the family round, then get put back in the box.
Any game made just for VR, means they dont have to worry about true gamelplay. It's such a limited market and a novelty.

VR can be fun in short bursts, it gives you a sense of immersion that just looking at a screen could never hope to match. But it also means you're cut off from everything around you, gets sweaty on hot days and can bring on motion sickness. But if they do a PS4 version I would be interested in trying it out.

Depends on usage. I use it for flight/driving Sims heavily and have no issue with heat or comfort.

The motion sickness however is user dependant, and can be far worse when you are using a platform that can't maintain a decent FPS. Fortunately I don't suffer, but even so I can feel my brain getting upset when the FPS dips.

It is very much early gen, but for my self the level of immersion is well worth the price. Done correctly, it could make good inroads, providing;

Low cost headsets
Good image clarity (Needs eye tracking tech to perform)
Wireless
Cross platform compatibility

Sadly true - VR is still at the novelty stage.

I bought an Oculus Rift and the initial novelty and "OMG wow!!" experience alone was worth the price, and I don't begrudge it. But when I recently wiped my Win7 PC (after taking copious backups) and did a fresh install of Win10 in anticipation of the End-of-Life of Win7 in a few months time, I didn't bother reinstalling the VR and setting it all up again. I think that rather speaks volumes.

Mind you, I do suffer terribly from motion sickness so VR can only remain a novelty for me. frown

Did you try Elite CC? I know many people have played hundreds of hours of Elite with VR.

I have played many hundreds of hours of Elite but not with VR, I'm going to wait until the tech improves a bit.

Not yet. Elite Dangerous gives me motion sickness even on my 21:9 aspect curved monitor. frown

Maybe I should set up my VR and give it a go, if only for the experience.

(Apologies for off-topic)

CC try Subnautica in vr.

I struggle with elite, but am fine in that game.

Skyrim is ok.
Fallout 4, as above.

I'm using a rift on a 1080.
