What is Gnosis? I've just jumped back in to ED after a lengthy absence.
It's a Megaship that you can dock/hangar with and thus travel on. It's jumping towards a region that has been permit locked but there has never been a place to get the permit. So there's obviously something there and they are going to find out when it makes it final jump on the 6th.

Probably thargoids.

I hope F:Dev publish how many pilots are on the Megaship when it jumps I imagine it'll be quite a few, maybe even a thousand.
I completely underestimated! Flight logs from Inara say there's already Five Thousand ships in the Gnosis system!yikes

And if you want Gnosis Megaship details for outfitting - https://inara.cz/galaxy-station/63821/ which strangely has no AX anti-Thargoid weapons. Which might suggest that's not what ED have planned for the new system, so probably Guardian stuff.

It also has a commodity market - https://inara.cz/market/236588/63821/ so you can trade with the Guardians. wink

It's been visited over 5000 times in the last 24hrs.

100% Thargoids. Whether that's just a load of medusa's, or a capital ship etc only Canonn know.

I would love for the Gnosis to get into a fight with a Tharg capital ship and limp back/not make it all the way.

Or my favourite would be for it completely miss-jump like Jacques did, and end up in the middle of nowhere.

Elite:Andromeda. Try to find Raxxla now...

Fingers crossed it's something big and new. Thargoid basestar or world.

Or it's a double bluff and the Goids are on the run from something worse, Guardian AI's.....

The thing is, it's being run by Canonn not FDev, granted the two work closely, but as its Canonn it'll actually have some form of narrative which will be awesome.

23 hours until it jumps and we find out.

Humming and aahhing about buying this. Is it easy enough to get the basics. I liked EvE online but was a bit too spreadsheet in space.

I know there isn't a plot as such but just good fun.

I would say it's far more approachable than Eve. You do have the option of never interacting with other players and the solo flight and exploration can be very relaxing and at times beautiful. Once your ship is upgraded combat versus NPCs can be a bit of a cakewalk so you might be tempted into PVP which is cutthroat.

Do wait for a sale though as it's fairly regularly discounted by 40% for the base game+Horizons DLC which I'd say is essential for the full fun.

As luck would have it is on sale right now store link

I've played nearly 600hours and the list of stuff I want to do and see is still huge.

It was ludicrously like packing for a holiday before leaving the bubble last night.
"Are the Multicannons with corrosive shells packed ?"
"Yes dear"
"And the Guardian Gauss cannons?"
"Yes dear"
"Both of them?"
"Yes dear"
"Xeno Scanner?"
...
1500 Light Years later at the Gnosis.

"Where are the decontamination limpits?"
"Didn't you pack the decontamination limpits?"
"I thought you did?"
"Ffffffffffffffffff!!!!!!"

On the way there tried my first ever Neutron jump, a little nerve wracking but 200LY in one shot is cool.

And I did discover that Guardian fighters can only be purchased at a tech broker station but they do stay in the fighter bay when it's shipped.

I plugged in the Vive Pro last night to give Elite a go, and it's a completely different game.

I spent 35 minutes just flying around some Guardian ruins. It's just so much prettier and feels different. You really get a gauge of scale that isn't there on flat screens.

Probably a good thing I can't afford a VR setup as I'd lose whole weeks/jobs/sanity hooked up. I'm trying to trade the old 24" 1080p monitor in for one of those 34" ultrawides come black Friday though.

It’s typicall i am away so will miss the gnosis jump. Do we know if once it is there if we will be able to get to it without a permit?

Could it also be raxxla as opposed to thargoids.

Galnet posts say heavy Thargoid presence predicted. Hope it's a bit more than wall to wall Hydras though.

Plenty of speculation on will you be able to get in or out for the month, no official word. The obvious option is gain a bounty and suicide to the nearest detention centre to get out but not in.

Sooooo, Im glad I didnt bother getting on the Gnosis... FDev ruining everything again.

After all the hype and what it could of been, it went all of 12 LY with nothing to show for it. If FDev couldnt be arsed to code the enemies or something, they could have at least let people wander around the cone sector scanning stuff.

A scientific-research vessel has been left stranded following a Thargoid attack.

The Gnosis, flagship of the Canonn Interstellar Research Group, recently made a hyperspace jump towards the Cone Sector FN-J B9-0 system. A short time later, the following message was received from Captain Mathius Leander of the Gnosis command crew:

“We were a short way into our journey when the Gnosis was hyperdicted by a group of Thargoid vessels. The wrench back into real space caused severe internal damage to multiple systems, including the frame shift drive.”

“There’s no doubt that we would have been destroyed if not for some of the Commanders travelling with us. They lured the Thargoids away while ejecting meta-alloys from their holds. The aliens were more interested in scooping up the meta-alloys than attacking us. The Commanders later reported that the Thargoid vessels were the recently identified Hydra Interceptors.”

“The Gnosis is currently adrift close to the eighth planet of the Outotz ST-I d9-6 system. We have begun essential repairs, but there is a risk that the Thargoids may return before we can escape the system.”

Woeful isn't it. On the scale of AWESOME! to meh... Fdev have managed to hit serious negative numbers. I imagine there's something like ten thousand pissed off commanders on Gnosis right now, including me.

Time to give Elite a rest, The Witcher II awaits in my pile of shame.

Not totally unexpected.

Except for flying back to Jameson Memorial from the April CG in Blidu Piru in June, I've not flown since April, logged in June to buy a Krait and a Crusader last month fitting stored modules and remote engineering the rest. Not even flown them. Waiting for the big Q4 update (that's getting smaller).

The really face palm reaction to it all is announcing it on Galnet 6 hrs before it was supposed to happen and then encountering the still present bugs when trying to leave. If attacked by any Thargoids and defending themselves they are being branded criminals by the Gnosis (the ship the are defending) and if destroyed ending up in a detention facility 1,200 LY away.

If you are there and just want to leave if you see any Thargoids present log out and try again it seems they only appear in one served instance, rather like different servers showing different missions.

FDev statement: https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php/44581...

Pretty much as far as I can tell;

Canonn need to submit destinations for the Gnosis to jump to, and FDev say yes or no.

Canonn saw the Cone sector was behind a belt of locked systems and could jump over the belt, so asked to go there and FDev said yes for some reason. Intern checking the systems or not aware of locked down status as it wasnt a permit locked system like the rest.

So they happily planned the jumps etc, and CMDRs came along.

FDev then locked the whole Cone sector because "Future content" and said to Canonn you shouldn'y jump there. (last patch).

Canonn said its already configured and we'll jump anyway. FDev, said fine, you jump and we'll see how you do.

This is FDev stopping them jumping short of the permit locks. Station "adrift" needing Meta Alloy and pissing off the whole community / 11k CMDRs that joined the Gnosis.

Poor show IMO. Whats one system.

I wouldn't personally do that though, I'm too attached to keeping my pilot alive. Had Elite Dangerous since January 2015 and I've only ever had 5 rebuys (4 with my current commander name).

1) Early sidewinder January 2015 can't remember the reason, run out of fuel probably, something stupid. Might not really count as I created a new profile after that and started again.
2) Adder caught by pirate February 2015
3) Type 6 2nd flight March 2016 killed by pirate attack on cargo, immediately sold it after rebuy.
4) Asp Explorer heavy high G planet landing error in complete darkness lost my attitude and hit hard.
5) Viper Mk III March 2018 bought to do some skimmer missions, left screen for a min whilst hovering above the site and it was destroyed by a parked NPC ship armed with turret weapons.

Besides I'm already 1,600LY away from the Gnosis. biggrin
