I'm in that twilight zone where I bought and played it a lot( mostly VR+hotas+voice control) would like to revisit but no clue where to start.

I'm a fan of the Guardian stuff, the ruins are very atmosperic and the tech unlocks vary from situationally useful (anti 'goid tech) to absolutely must have (FSD booster).

Full walkthrough for the FSD booster here (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J9C9a00-rkQ) obviously has spoilers for what you're going to run into.

To avoid spoilers take a ship with SRV (preferably 2) and at least 8 tonnes of cargo out to HD 63154 - B 3 A, don't forget a point defence mounted on the top of your ship for unexpected hostiles... Land at the Guardian site and see what pops up.
Less spoilery map here. https://forums.frontier.co.uk/threads/here-is-a-ma...

Maybe make a second account and start afresh to learn again before returning to your original account?

just starting afresh on the pc after playing for a year on the PS4 and as a way to get back into the game. The graphics are so much better but I’m struggling with flying using a mouse and keyboard. Any tips?

I may need to invest in a HOTAS setup (Thrustmaster seems highly recommended).

I play with a steam controller (your PS4 DS should talk to a PC too?) when I can and KB+M when I can't, there are a few tweaks in the KB&M setup that help depending on what style you use. I have pitch and roll bound to mouse axis, but then I'm generally just space trucking when I'm stuck with KB&M. The hardcore PVPers I believe use mouse Pitch and Yaw for better aim.

My game is still downloading the April update, although Reddit and forum posts are reporting a lot of bugs and performance issues.

While you are waiting Ant has a first impressions video that covers some of the changes, most useful for new players - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OVr0nzaKVDs

I’ve set the mouse to pitch and yaw and use roll on the A and D keys. Getting on a bit better with that compared to the default. Just snagged myself a Cobra Mk3 😎

I'm still struggling to get out of dock and go anywhere!

It's rubbing stomach whilst patting head all over again.

hehe

I'd offer to help but I don't expect to be back to civilisation before August! biggrin

The new advanced docking computer can help with departures too I've heard.

I saw a video of the docking computer hurtling a player ship into the side of the station hehe

Probably found itself installed in an Asp Scout and decided to end it all from despair smile

Just received my Thrustmaster T16000M HOTAS yesterday, it’s going to take a bit of adjusting from the keyboard and mouse but so far it feels pretty good flying around and should be so much better for dogfighting.

Finally I may be able to use railguns or PA weapons 😁

After reaching the edge of the galaxy I spent a week on a lonely planet in the middle of nowhere filming a timelapse.

Quite pleased with the result after learning to use Chronolapse, GIMP and Resolve over the past month...

So I've downloaded this again but have yet to take flight, is it still as wide as the Pacific Ocean, but still only an inch deep?

You'll need to put in a lot of time now to make it fun, the Engineers killed it.

I think that's only true for PVP. Engineers aren't really compulsory to do anything else but they can make the game a lot easier and I mostly enjoyed unlocking each one because it made me do different things in the game.

As for it being an inch deep and a mile wide, well I've clocked over 1000 hours and have a long list of stuff still to do. Xeno Combat, Unlock the Cutter and Corvette, get Combat Elite, have a go at powerplay, PVP and small ship PVE.

I've now visited Colonia, Beagle Point, SagA* and completed most of the Guardian ruin "quests" and unlocked every engineer bar one.

Making money has become much easier in the last couple of months with void opal and double hotspot mining.

I thought after the huge Distant Worlds 2 expedition I'd assumed I'd want a break from Elite, but it keeps pulling me back with interesting things to see and do. By the time the next big update drops in 2020 (confidently thought (leaked) to be spacelegs (meh) and player bases (woo!)) I might be looking for some new things to do.

Or I'll have joined the Pegasus Expedition to circumnavigate the galaxy....

There are some supposed leaks saying that they are finally getting around to making it so you can get up out of the seat and walk around. They originally said they wanted to do it in the kickstarter.

If it does happen I wonder if they'll be true to the spirit of docking in the original and make it tricky to get out the door without banging your head laugh
