Elite: Dangerous
Discussion
Pffft, amateurs. I used to play Elite, on a 32K BBC basic, back in the 1980’s. I used to go hunting those Octagonal things, in witch-space. It was the best way to get loads of ‘right on Commanders’.
Here is the very computer ( and floppy drive ) that was used. I found it in a pile of stuff in my old man’s loft, when he croaked earlier this year.

Wow you were lucky to have floppy disk, had Elite on audio tap and friends house on Spectrum but always thought BBC was a better version. Here is the very computer ( and floppy drive ) that was used. I found it in a pile of stuff in my old man’s loft, when he croaked earlier this year.

Was the PK232 and/or a Microvitec monitor with it? 8 bit hardware is starting to fetch some good prices, so if you can, keep it safe and dry, it could be an appreciating asset. For those of us who own Elite Dangerous, Frontier have a free download of the original BBC Elite and an emulator bundled together:

Increasing rumours of "something" dropping into the Coalsack nebula imminently, perhaps even during tomorrow's 5 hour maintenance downtime (7-12 GMT)
It's the Aliens the Thargoids are running from Apparently systems in The Coalsack now look ridiculous as there are hundreds of carriers parked.
Lets hope whatever it is brings some Capital ships.
There was an audio clip on the Elite Dangerous facebook feed yesterday - https://www.facebook.com/watch/?v=355585732439568
Doesn't give much away though.

Pffft you high tech snob, I was slumming it on the Electron! Such a great game, a bit of a shame it was never allowed to be ever present in the development decades and only now is back.
I have it on my PS4 but I'm old and generally just play the odd bit with my son on other games, don't have the time. Wish it had been updated and on a console in youth/20's

One galaxy - no military lasers (topped out with beam) - and fewer ship types. Yep I had an electron as well - bloody hard to dock, had to be pretty much perfectly level -docking computer was an essential purchase.Friend of mine bought ED the other week and has been trundling around the starter systems. Invited him to fly the SLF on my Corvette that is setup for Thargoid Scout hunting.
"Wow, that's HUGE man"
Yes it is
But by the same token it's really easy to forget that because Elite so rarely gives me the freedom to actually see it.
If I run an NPC pilot it gimps my XP and for whatever reason I can't give the helm to a friend via multicrew. Such a shame.

Ive just spent a shed load of time and effort getting enough guardian crap to kit out my ship with the fighters, only to find that it doesn’t have a fighter bay Doh!
(That and get the shield bonus only to try to transfer it over and then find I don't have enough cargo space for the 8 tonnes of purchased materials Doh!)
So, Im wondering if an Anaconda is the ship to have instead of a Fer de Lance. Thoughts?

So. Fer De Lance is THE meta for PVP combat. But, it is very compromised for any other job. Second worst cargo capacity on the medium sized ships.(That and get the shield bonus only to try to transfer it over and then find I don't have enough cargo space for the 8 tonnes of purchased materials Doh!)

I've built up a Chieftan to take on interceptors according to this guide.

Anaconda is a great jack of all trades, and master of most of them. With four gauss cannons it can be made into a super tanky interceptor killer.

Cautionary note, went to Felicity Farseer to muck about with engineering and got hit by a pirate band who, as soon as I launched wiped me out (running my Cobra for that job)
It was after they had ‘noted my arrival’ does that indicate the wrong faction based on my ‘hostile’ indicator?
I went back there expecting trouble again and wasn’t disappointed but my Cobra is pretty quick so was able to buzz off tootsweet
