Sometimes in games I like to restart with a new character because the early struggle is fun...but not this...God no....

Played the training mission, was getting 90+ fps on the ground and around the outpost and during the firefight.

Into the game proper and over 100+fps in the station, don't like Fidelity CAS and the other setting which I think it defaults to, using normal with supersampling set at 1.25. everything else highest settings around 87fps in stations. Still noticeable jaggies though. Needs DLSS.

New views to me.

This was with Fidelity on. Jagged ground lines.

Normal option.

I would love to see that updated every time someone gets executed for blocking the slot.

Current community goal has a good looking bonus. Double engineered FSD grades 3,4,6 (grade 5 done in a previous CG) People have now theory crafted a 91LY Jumpaconda if the stats are consistent with the previous upgrade.

There was a patch this morning that has massively improved performance at Odyssey surface settlements.
Worked for me, fixed an occasional but major stutter. I was sometimes down to single figure frame rates, at other times a similar settlement layout would be fine.
It was to do with unneccessarily creating a navmesh around all the rocks for miles around.

The performance improvements seem to be getting there for a lot of people.

Well the Community Goal had too good a reward and at least in the bubble was smashed through in 3 days. The one in Colonia is only at about 3% though if you're prepared to trek out there, it has 4days left to run.

With a contribution of 4224 tonnes I snuck into the top 50% for a 20MCr bonus by less than 100tonnes and I got that last load delivered with what must of been seconds to spare smile

I was in the top 50% at about midnight last night then went to bed. Obviously such an increase in contributors ended it quickly but I had a little panic that my average hadn't been bumped down below 75% and luckily that's where I was at the end, 75%, phew!
My bro however tried to start it this morning! Doh!

Got to find a fleet carrier that's off to Colonia soon!

Or b. https://inara.cz/stations-coloniabridge/

How about that!

Good spot to look for carriers off to all parts.

I really need some help from people who know what they are doing. I’m trying to get voice attack to work with a quest 2 and am really struggling! It seemed to work for a bit but now just keeps hearing things I’m not saying. Mainly “who made you” even when in complete silence. I’ve tried all the settings I can find but am pretty clueless when it comes to pc gaming. I’m new to all this.

I’m using virtual desktop. It can hear things I am saying. It’s just somehow picking up things I’m not. Even as I say when the room is in complete silence. I’m kinda at my wits end with it now. Has anyone been successful using this with a quest 2? And if so. What might I be doing wrong?

Bit of an update. I connected my Bose headphones to the pc via Bluetooth and set as the default audio device for both sound and recording and the problem is gone. No longer hearing things I haven’t said and all seems perfect so far. Would much prefer not to have to wear headphones and the vr headset though….

There's free ARX for logging in up until Christmas.

Update 9 was another less than seamless affair but there's a new tanky type SRV called Scorpion for those with Odyssey. Horizons players got an upgrade to the Scarab SRV and Multi-limpet controllers (qualified yay! They are still being tweaked for mass and performance)

The most interesting news for me though is fleet carrier interiors are coming for those space billionaires. As a meeting place for squadrons this looks very cool.

That actually looks pretty cool! Really chuffed they're adding a system to buy/trade engineering materials for Odyssey upgrades too - the thought of grinding an entire set of stuff from scratch has been putting me off jumping in a little if I'm honest (I've still got an entire page of stuff left to do in Horizons!).

Time to go bolster the credit fund in prep for this I think! thumbup

Nice bit of smash and grab at a compromised beacon last night, I earnt 35 mil but I suspect as a team one can earn more taking on anti pirate missions where a bounty can be claimed in the system they are engaged in as well as the reward paid.
I'm looking at 20 mil a pop for 15-20 pirates and with 3 well armed ships should be straight forward to earn at least half again with local bounties. Then invite the team into the mission and the numbers start to grow again...

Afternoon all, looking at games to kill some time over the christmas period and I've eyed this up for quite some time.

My main query is, how intuitive is it to 'get in to' for a newbie? I'm no stranger to sim games where things can be a bit hardcore and chuck you in at the deep end.

I'd play on the PC and whilst I do have VR, I'd likely only use it every once and a while. Is an xbox controller suffice? Not in a rush to go buying various peripherals for one game.

People do play it with a controller, but I don't know how, I use HOTAS, controller, and mouse and keyboard depending what I'm doing...there's a lot of controls... as many as a complex flight sim, though you can get by without most, or use menus.
It's a steep learning curve but you can get stuck in and pick it up as you go, do the tutorials.

Was great to meet yourself and your mate last night. Hopefully the Vette shaped dents buffed out alright! hehe

I did some digging on massacre missions, which seems to be where the crazy money is. I think once you're allied with a faction or two, you can earn up to 500k per kill in addition to the contract rewards which are in the tens of millions. Reddit claims 5-600m per hour via stacking wing massacre missions, which is nuts.

Check out https://edtools.cc/pve - I think the hardest part is basically just finding a system with multiple factions offering missions against another faction in a local system that happens to have stuff like comp'd beacons, or haz res's, or conflict zones, to maximise combat time/kills per hour.

It's not something I've tried yet, and most posts/YT videos are a few months old - but it's easy money if it still works!

I was just using mouse and keyboard when I started. It is reasonably intuitive though I would recommend starting in solo game mode and getting used to the game there for a while. I know some here will say player ganking is rare, but it does happen and there is a type of scum who do hang around near the newbie area specifically to get new players (you can only stay in the 'safe' system' for a short while.

Great that you came along, had fun and no dents in my FdL, or at least nothing Rays concordant couldn't smooth out

Ray and I were doing a little wing stuff earlier, as there were only two of us we could only share one mission each so two single target missions, doubling up the reward but the main targets (they always have 2 or 3 mates!) have decent local bounties on them, I got one with 1.1 mil local bounty and a 4.9 mil reward, so 6 mil each, for 1 ship.
After cashing in those 2 single target missions we both got 11.7mil

I looked at the massacre stuff, normal missions are around 20 mil for 15 ships if you are allied. BUT for a wing mission they up the amount of targets to something like 70. OK if you have a few hours and the local bounties must rack up but I suspect you'd need a wing of 4 ships with 4 missions shared to mop up nicely.
I can't see the bigger numbers mentioned unless I'm missing something obvious.

I use a controller almost exclusively as I've a bunch of shortcuts and macros setup using Steam Overlay. If you're not playing through Steam it's trickier as you have to button combo everything.

Here's a slightly dull/embarrassing "how to" video I made.
https://youtu.be/ziSDKRawiJ4 I even made a followup with elite themed overlays, a project I've now neglected for a year or more.

Hopefully you're playing through Steam and that's if use. One cool thing I've only recently started using is gyro pitch-yaw aim for precision shooting while keeping pitch-roll on the thumb-stick.

For massacre stacking that pve tool is great, back in November I found a system with plenty of rez' that had four other systems with multiple factions giving out missions. That started to feel quite lucrative. I've been using a fixed beams + gyro MC ''Vette which will do pirate lords solo but I run out of SCBs after one or two in a row.

Hopefully my aim improves (when I get my PC back) and i can increase my time between docking to repair)rearm.

For a laugh I also made an AFK Type 10 that I can leave in a low/standard Rez with some bait in the hold and low level NPC pirates will just attack. It's not as robust as some YT channels have said but it is funny to leave Elite running for an hour and come back to a few more missions competed.
