The Cobra is the swiss army knife of ships, can fight, haul, explore. Mine is worth about 6mil atm, most modules are A-class bar the weapons.
In terms of ship choice and setup you're slightly ahead of me then. I'm running a Cobra with most systems uprated. As for weapons, I've tried various more expensive ones but have found nothing more cost-effective than a Multi-Cannon and Pulse Laser setup. What's your next ship upgrade? I'm trying to decide whether I want a trading barge to try and increase my income rate. I fear I'll substitute enjoyment for cash flow though.

I have a type-6 and a cobra, no harm in owning more than 1 ship. What's your next ship upgrade? I'm trying to decide whether I want a trading barge to try and increase my income rate. I fear I'll substitute enjoyment for cash flow though.
I went Sidey>hauler>Cobra>lakon-6 and then bought a new cobra (having traded my original in for the L-6) ive not been playing over Christmas. Im in an all A cobra except weapons too, I will probably go asp > python next but slowly as trading is rather tedious.

I'm definitely finding that. Only really started playing properly yesterday, and the most profitable trade run I've found so far is making me about 6000cr per run. Which should allow me some ship upgrades soon and them maybe try a bit of basic pirate hunting, seen a few fairly low value hunting contracts in the bulletin boards but I'm loath to try them in a noob spec ship..Foliage said:

Using gimbaled beams on top and frag cannons underneath.
Edit to add, really undecided about next ship, Asp would be great for long jumps, trading and exploration but is apparently pretty slow turning which might not suit combat, python definitely appeals on that front.

So bought the viper, tricked it out a little and tried a bit of bounty hunting. Tried an assassination for 160k reward, but turned out that it was an elite anaconda. I Died. Need a bigger gun.
I didn't trade in the sidey, so have converted it to mining. Very very tedious but boy is it lucrative! 2.5 hours play this afternoon has yielded 200k from the sidewinder with a d rated mining laser, and refinery with 8 cargo. Trick is to find metallic planet rings. Now with 300k in the bank, 2 ships and big plans on a cobra to complement the viper, and from there I don't know yet.
Regards the mining laser, do bigger class 2 plus lasers chip off bIgger chunks of rock? The mining is horribly slow.

Can't answer that but you have just given me a load-out idea...I didn't trade in the sidey, so have converted it to mining. Did a load of exploration with an intermediate discovery scanner and a detailed surface scanner, got quite a few reports back on metal rich asteroid fields, having a mining setup alongside could be very very lucrative, I was earning decent credits on the cartographics alone.

I cannot play this with the mouse and keyboard comfortably, so I have ordered a Thrustmaster T-Flight Hotas X Joystick from Amazon, but have to wait 'till they're back in stock....
I'll be interested to see what your think of it, my venerable Saitek Cyborg 3D is starting to get a bit flakey and that looks like a sensible priced replacement RizzoTheRat said:

Yeah, I think everyone's had the same idea. I preordered and planned to pick up a stick after chrimbo and start playing then, d'oh. I don't have boost mapped to my joystick so not had that problem. I do owe someone a 50cr fine though as I tend to enter and exit stations with my weapons deployed so I get an aiming reticule, whcih I find makes it a lot easier to line up with the post box entrance. Unfortunately it also makes negligent discharges somewhat easier.
I am quite enjoying my daily report here
Low point last night was a mission to kill another elite Anaconda, got killed. Gonna need some even bigger guns, although made a little progress this time.
Did another mining run in the Sidey, 6 platinum, 1 gold, 3 palladium - 152k in one run! Whoever thought that little ship could turn that amount of revenue?! About an hour's work there.
The system I found with such rich reserves is right next to an Anarchic system with a nav point so took the viper for a first proper bounty hunt. Bagged about 85k in 5 kills, one of which was a (non elite) Anaconda (63k). Sadly had to travel down to the nearest Imperial space to collect it's bounty (Mals) which took 4 tanks of petrol, so will save up the bounties I think to make that run worthwhile.
My old Sidewinder Precision 2 joystick has packed up after 12+ years, so the Mals run was on keyboard - eurgh. May have to break until tomorrow now until I can get a new device.

The K Warrant scanner will tell you if there are additional bounties elsewhere, handy if the guy is wanted in multiple systems as you get not just the local bounty but from other systems too, but if he is clean in the system you are in you can't take him down without penalty.
Think of it like the US federal system, guy can be wanted in California but cops in Nevada have no interest in him, you wander over smash his face in it's you the nevada cops want to arrest.
Yes seconded if it says clean in the normal scanner but showing a bounty in the nav computer, opening fire will attract a bounty and wanted status. If it says wanted you are good, without KWS you only get the local bounty but scanning gives you the full one.
This was the significance of my anarchic system with nav point comment above. Anarchies have no cops and no-one cares what you do, so simply sit at the nav point and collect bounties. Not many anarchies have nav points though so it's worth making a note when you find them.
You may think the fines are a necessary business overhead however, it depends how you want to play
Yes, need a fuel scoop
