Good point. I initially wasted a lot of time chasing down each ? only to find a lot of the challenges/monsters were far above my level. Stick to the main story quests but keep an eye out for side quests and ? as you go. Keeps things flowing more.
Interesting; I would say the exact opposite! Do as many ? and side quests as possible (just check levels) before following the main Quests, as you need to build up your armour, weapons, abilities and level. The first time I played I followed the main quest until the Bloody Baron, who continuously hammered until I nearly gave up because my level was too low. Just started again and doing it right this time. Someone mentioned the Jenny O’the woods mission - it’s level 10 and I’m currently on four. So no chance. Some are in the 30s. You need to check levels and watch for the red skulls above foe or you’ll get a good whipping.

Amazing game though, can’t wait for cyber punk 2077 or whatever it is called.

After completing Horizon Zero Dawn which I really enjoyed I had great expectations from W3 which I tried afterwards last year. I was instantly chilled by the "beyond the iron curtain" feel of the dull graphics, the boring characters and the base plot. I keep hearing about how the game opens up the deeper you get into it, but the aesthetics and this whole middle age/dungeons and dragons atmosphere, which I usually loathe, have left me bitter cold. This is frustrating for me as I feel like I am possibly leaving aside one of the best games ever, so what can anyone on here tell me so that I give it another try?

I would say be patient with the combat, you need to be quite methodical and cant just spam fast attacks without dodging, using potions / oils, and watching your enemy. White Orchard (first location) is a massive tutorial, it's only when you get to Velen the game really starts.

Any similar tips for Horizon Zero Dawn? I've tried to get into it a few times but never managed to make much progress before moving on to something else, but it's meant to be very good

Sorry, probably wasn't quite clear. I meant not to go traipsing around the map trying to find all the ? especially at the start. Definitely do the side quests and any ? you stumble across, but don't go running off around the map at the start trying to do every ? as it could become boring/frustrating and you'll lose track of the story smile

Well, thanks for the comments, I have given it another try last night, after leaving it aside for 18 months. I gave up with an unsucessful werewolf side quest which back then frustrated me a bit, came back to the main quest and I must say I now enjoy it. For some reason the graphics and gameplay seem better than at my first try. Not sure how many hours I'm in (in which menu is this mentioned?) but to give you an idea I am just past a sequence playing with Ciri rather than Geralt for the first time.
When I first gave it a go I was probably still intoxicated from completing Horizon Zero Dawn which I think got really quite epic towards the end, and any action RPG coming afterwards would have necessarily felt a little bland perhaps?

I remember HZD demanded a little patience at the beginning. The way the dialogues are put together is a bit dull and this is probably the only let down of the game but I found that the intrigue compensated for them the more I made progress into the main quest. Do not skip too much on side quests as they will allow you to level up and gear up and get comfortable with combat mechanics as I remember even some of the early beasts are a little hard to beat with the most basic weapons. Take your time and enjoy the scenery, as you get some seriously beautiful landscapes the deeper you get into the game and its vast world, and once you get comfortable with the fighting and a proper equipment you may enjoy it very much. I have no idea how they managed to program such realistic animal behaviours into the various beasts, but the combats can get truly epic and I always got a great feeling of hunter-like satisfaction taking the fiercest beasts down with a bow and arrows. To encourage you I could post a few YT videos showing how epic battles can get but that would spoil the fun of finding out about it by yourself, so try again smile

Absolutely love this game and played it to death on PS4. I fancy a replay and now have a pc that can max the graphics out comfortably.

Is it worth buying again on PC or shall I just play through it on PS4 again? Obviously I'm thinking about graphics - how much better are they from base PS4 to ultra on PC?

Not just graphics (textures) but light shaders too.

Always does comparisons from about about halfway through with default and mod screens.

Check out his other Witcher 3 videos, links to mods in the descriptions.

Rumours are that it will be free on the epic games store in the next few weeks.

Well I'll wait for that then. It is cheap as chips on Steam at the moment so I was tempted. Not sure the difference is worth starting from scratch again and losing my new game plus.

The advantage with the PC one is there will be an easily accessible save game or mod that lets you do that to save you starting completely from scratch.

Well i stuck with the PS4 version and am about 15 hours into new game plus. It is still absolutely brilliant, though the character models, especially in cutscenes don't look as good as they did 5 years ago. I put 140 hours into my first playthrough and I'm staggered by the sheer number of new bits and pieces, including entire quests (one of which including an important returning franchise character) that I have never seen before.

It really is an absolute master piece.

Saw this and I now have 3 copies of the witcher 3 (PS4, PC and GOTY PC version) smile

(I bought the original on the PS4 then the GOTY on PC when I upgraded my PC so made sense at the time) .

I might finally get round to playing it then. I just couldn't get into it for some reason but have been playing Assassins Creed Odyssey which I have been told is basically the same so should give it a go.

I've played about 250 hours but not logged in for a while after completing a second time. I recently loaded my last save and went back to Kaer Morhen to explore a bit - it felt very lonely compared to being in Toussaint . It amazing how a game can have you so emotionally invested.
