I had been playing happily all day but have now had five crashes in a row. I spawn and it instantly locks up.

I have deleted the game file and am reloading it now. Fingers crossed!

ETA. That didn't work, still cannot play.

Got to the bottom of my problem. I discovered that it only crashed if I spawned as Support. A quick Google showed that it is an issue with the 'Indirect fire' speciality/field upgrade. Removed that and it has stopped crashing.

Matt, have you done anything else since Friday apart from play this game? You've got over 24 hours on it already!!! laugh

Anyway, I've set up a couple of missions for a few of you guys who've been on a lot this weekend - first is most kills in a round (any map, any kit), second is most headshots in a round (any map, any kit).

Both run for 48 hours from now.

Not sure how you access the mission, but if you figure it out, let me know! smile

Edit: Fcensoredck me, I take it back, Matt - SNAFU has 38 hours clocked up!

Thought i'd copy and paste my issues with the game so far in here:

1. FPS Drop

Only occasionally happens (once every ten games), but quite frankly it's helluh irritating. Would expect it on a 'finished' product at all.

2. Client Side Hit Detection

The net code in BF3 was notorious for this, being able to run behind a piece of cover and still end up dead. It's slightly worse IMO in BF4. Turning off network smoothing helps a bit, but not massively. Laggy bar stewards are a nightmare, especially at range (600m+) where sniping is truly a black art of "Where do i think he's going to jump/rubber band to next".
Recently i've been stood still pumping magazines of pistol ammo into people, getting hit x each shot and having them turn around and kill me displaying 100-50% health... I'm pushing 30megs up and down so my connection is fine.

3. Disparity

Still present is the argument that a pistol is more powerful up close than a rifle, bolt action or not. Hardcore goes some way at redressing this issue however.

4. HUD

Speaking of hardcore and the hud in normal too, i find the visuals too overpowering, more than once now i have been killed by an enemy sat right in the area the icon overlays.. Seems too opaque to me.

5. Kit specific load outs (Defensive, Offensive, Spec Op)

I have experienced an intermittent bug where i do not have access to the items upon which it states are enhanced, for instance, i was fully charged up, so should have had 6 C4, i only had three...??? Next round, 6 again...

6. Leveloution...

Shanghai isn't what it looks on the high end trailers. I do not experience masses of dust hanging around making sniping a chore and generally obscuring the view... Most of the levels feel that their 'dramatic events' were an afterthought. The dam is deffo one here, now I'm sure if you break a dam all hell breaks loose, but not on BF4...

7. Fast jets in Dawnbreaker

Why? Hoping they give us an extra hell in the next patch and remove the pointless fast jets.

8. I need a PS4..

My controller is broken, and on that basis i'm going to get a PS4. No really, it is, but i believe the PS4 version of this game will be the outstanding product we were all expecting. The PS3 version is a port at the end of the day - and by all accounts not a good one. Plus Xbox One and PS4 cross combat sounds good.

Other than that the game is pretty good. I like the fact i can drop a goldeneye radio telescope dish on an unsuspecting tank/person. I generally like the way it feels (despite people saying it feels like more like COD) - I like the BFBC2 touches too. I do miss maps like seine crossing though!
Lots of people moaning about the Recon class, but the fact is, i'm spending a lot of time with carbines & long rifles, up close causing carnage and blowing up tanks. C4 is still unlock able for support, so HMG gunners fear naught biggrin

EDIT - turned down the HUD... Seems to work well! Except being able to see the minimap! Oh and today i seem to be experiencing "Killed in action" random deaths....

Oh and I'm on just under 30hrs... LOL

I think a lot of those effects aren't going to be there for the current gen, which you've covered nicely in one of your other points already.

So after spending a little bit of time (ahem) playing this at the weekend here are my thoughts.

First I'll get the bad stuff out of the way.

1) System crashes - I've had this game crash my PS3 3 times within a 48 hour period. Not deal breaking but this is game has caused the most crashes for any game on the PS3 so far.

2) Bugs, Bugs, Bugs. Yes it's buggy, moonwalking players, occasional frame rate drops, lag, freezing etc. Again not deal breaking but just surprised such a big game has shipped in this state. I reckon it could have done with at least a few more weeks of debugging. Hopefully these issues will be patched along the way and the PS4 version should be better.

3) Graphics are ok but not ground breaking and the destruction again is pretty good but not brilliant. Again hoping the PS4 version will be a step up from this.

4) Still don't really like the conquest map mode. Don't get me wrong it's good fun messing around with all the vehicles but as a soldier on foot the maps are too dispersed to make the game interesting and you seem to spend vast amounts of time just running around which is boring. I'm hoping the higher player count on the next gen versions will mean this mode becomes a lot more interesting.

5) Fast jets - Really what is the point of these? The maps are so small that you can literally fly across them in 10 seconds before hitting the level perimeter, on the dawnbreaker map cut this down to 5 seconds. A little bit of fun to be had in dogfighting with other jets but apart from that they have zero influence on the game. They should just give up on them, get rid and replace them with something more useful IMO.

Ok now the Good Stuff

1) It IS a Battefield GAME. Lots of vehicles, large maps to play, lots of different weapons which handle differently, lots of options to play how you want, oh and the recon class is actually useful again. smile

2) Rush is awesome (again)

3) It's not CoD, I am so happy it seems to have returned to BC2 form and not gone further down the BF3 Cod-alike route.

So despite some of technical issues overall it is very positive and the gampelay is awesome. I am getting that great vibe that I got when I first played BF2. Hopefully the PS4 version will fix some of the issues. I can see myself playing this for a LONG time and can't wait to get platooned up with the PH regulars.

As requested, here is my review.

Firstly, i've accepted this is a next gen game, so my PS3 version is bodged port due to the launch date of the next gen consoles being pushed back.

However, this game 'feels' like Bad Company 2. The sounds and looks of the maps just feels like the older games. This is a good thing.

The basic weapons are lethal. They are deadly accurate and quite powerful, which i think has been done to lessen the learning curve for new players. One critismnof bf3 was that you always loose out to someone that has ranked up better gear than you, this helps a bit. Which is a good thing.

New button layout (especially Spotting) is actually better, but when you've played as much battlefield as us, learning to fly/drive again will take some getting use to. Again for casual gamers this may be better.

Its the little bits o Levolution I like. On Operation Locker you can close gates to stop people flanking you. Most buildings can be blown up too, which is freat for removing cover.

Commander mode is interesting. Need to spend more time in it as it does make a big difference to a teams succes.

All in all, can't wait to play it on PS4 with 64 man server.

You can set up your own missions and invite up to 4 friends Matt - you can specify which game modes and how many attempts you get to try to take the record too. Just go into the Missions section.

Oh, right. I only saw a choice of map and attempts. It's a shame we don't we receive notification that we have been invited to a mission. I only knew because you posted on here. Maybe that will be fixed in a patch.

What are everybodies favourite guns and equipment so far? I am really liking the M1014 shotgun and impact grenades.

I've heard there's a glitch with shotguns - that each pellet does the damage of a bullet, so they're glitched (much like the old M26 DART was for a while in BF3)?

I was using the AK12 a lot for a while, but switched to the SCAR-H, which is a lot like the old G3A3.

Haven't touched the LMGs yet.

Using the AC5 as engineer, which is ok for a carbine.

Had a quickish session late last night and this game keeps getting better and better. Gameplay wise it's spot on, it's just a shame the few technical glitches mar what is otherwise a very good game so far. Really can't wait to try the PS4 version now.

Loving the weapon balance on the whole, handguns aren't insanely powerful like in BF3 and each of the weapon classes seem to be effective at specific ranges which is how it should be, getting out-sniped by an SMG from across the map was never fun previously.

One thing I have noticed though is what's with everyone running around with the RFB rifle? Almost half the players I run into seem to be carrying it, is this the new noob weapon of choice?

Loving it so far, yes there a couple of issues but they will get sorted. |Fianally rush is back to how it was in BC 2 not all choke points like bf3.

Apparently I'm 11th in britain with the littlebird, and keeping the KD above 2 cool

I have now equipped a machete for knifing. Love carbines I like the aku-12 followed by the sg553 currently on A-91 jury is out on that one. Pdw are good too currently on UMP which is actually good again, have seen no AS-Val sadly maybe it will be in some DLC later.

The LMGs are crap, have been trying to unlock more with them but they are just bad, you have to fire so many bulllets if you have a look at my accuracy with all my guns the lmgs bring it right own, maybe they will get better.

Don't know what that gun is Guv?

Will be having a go at youngys challenge tonight as only accepted it before going to bed last nightrolleyes

Well they are designed for laying down a carpet of suppressive fire and not pinpoint accuracy.

That's all well and good but that never works in an FPS.. No fear of death. You need to be able to kill with them.

Well it does work doesn't it? There's the whole suppression ability where anyone who tries to fire back finds their accuracy goes to pot, screen goes fuzzy and their ability to contribute anything meaningful to the battle is greatly reduced. Great if you're trying to defend a flag or an MCOM. Granted it's not much use if you're playing Team Deathmatch, but who buys Battlefield to play TDM?
