Still, I just can't be bothered faffing with a wheel or the space/cost etc. biggrin so will have to stick with it.
I can highly recommend the playseat challenge and G29, folds up and down in 2 minutes and mine's in the corner on the landing, it's not cheap but if you're into your driving games it's well worth it.

Finally won my Lotus cup race! 10 laps is a long time smile

I think I have a mental block with Silverstone, I raced a Yamaha 350lc there back in the early 80's and I can remember in 1st practice being flat in 5th and thinking I have no idea which way this track goes smile Thankfully the race was just a massive slipstream battle!

It's possible to get pretty far with a gamepad imo, it can get you to 9/10ths with practice and car. I've been finding it frustrating recently though as I know how to setup a car to go faster and know how I need to control it to go faster but just can't translate that through a controller.
Mainly because you can't put lock on or off beyond the variable speed determined steering limit. So something like the SLS, C7 (muscle cars etc.) that needs a controlled amount of oversteer out of corners is difficult to achieve.

Still, I just can't be bothered faffing with a wheel or the space/cost etc. biggrin so will have to stick with it.
Hm. Forgot about that. Will have to play with it. Maybe I'll turn it off?

Problem is then you end up putting full lock on at 150mph in a fraction of a second biggrin

Should be fine if you're sensitive. Also, it will just understeer a lot won't it? Have you tried? I haven't. biggrin

Yeh, well at least I found it's impossible to finesse a car using the little stick on a controller with that much movement possible within such a small movement range.

When the console variant of AC came out I asked Kunos if they'd changed anything to make it playable with rubber mushrooms and they said 'no'. I've never tried it, do you think it's identical to the PC version? I'm just curious smile

What do they do in Gran Turismo? It's always been pretty straightforward to drive with the dual shocks.

No idea. I don't know which version you have but in the PC version, you can change the sensitivity at higher speeds. I'm gonna have a late lunchtime play.

I've not touched it on console but i wouldn't see why they'd need to do much, the main thing that doesn't quite work with controller is the UI on PC.

Same thing I imagine, in that the faster you go the less steering you get. It's the same system in every driving game I've ever touched with a controller.

Which for arcade driving games doesn't hold you back, it's just in a more sim based game where you need that final gnats whisker of finesse.

Well, I give up. I have no idea what I'm doing and putting the speed sensitivity to max just made the turning circle slightly better than a Volvo's.

I can try share my setting if you like, not 100% sure if they'll work directly. As aside my controller isn't detected as an xbox controller anyway as by default the throttle and brake are linked into a single axis so I use some hooky drivers that someone made that splits the axis :-/

Worth a go if you like, but can't grab them till later.

I have played both PC and on my mates X box. Both times using a steering wheel and pedals, but admittedly different hardware;

PC - Microsoft Sidewinder (MS)
XBox - Logitech G920? (L)

The MS has less degrees of rotation and you can make a LOT more controller changes/tweaks on PC. With the L on Xbox you sort of get what you get once it is plugged in.

I found it a LOT more difficult to control oversteer on the Xbox. I can happily sit sideways all round the nurburgring in an e30 DTM car if I so desire on the PC, try that on the X box and I was falling off left right and centre. I was able to catch the first slide but it normally spat me back off. The rotation of the real life wheel did not match on the Xbox whereas it matched on PC.

Slightly strange I thought, as like most people, I expected the Xbox version to be slightly dumbed down! It could be down to the extra rotation needed on the L on Xbox I suppose.

Be interesting to compare.

I've set my gamepad up with the right stick as gas/brake.

From my experience that would instantly make mid engined cars hard to handle as you can't keep a bit of throttle on whilst you brake, and also you can't rev match when downshifting so you're going to have a very lively rear end in some cars (the cars in the RSS GT1 mod for example WILL spit you off if you don't rev match)

Oh right. I don't use a clutch; my pedals don't even have a clutch!

Well, I found a used Trust GTX27. The wheel has a useless vibration thing and it is only about 8 inches in diameter, 180 degrees lock to lock. Yet, it is much more useful than the gamepad!

It’s out Xbox to follow.

In other news AC have registered Assetto Corsa Competizione as a web address and have just announced to tune in on 21 Feb 15:00CET https://www.assettocorsa.net/en/

A lot of talk on if it will be esports or a new game.
