Well, clean install sorted, just got past the Vault cryo scene and will leave it there for this afternoon's patch. Looking forward to seeing what difference (if any)! I'll see. I did have the usual crash on running to the vault and remembered the weapon debris being set to high always caused that crash (ahh Bethesda)! Maybe they'll have fixed that?!

Will I have the option of running the game without the updated bits?
I don't want to install it and ruin the performance on my Steam Deck.

If you have auto-updates turned off and you never connect to the internet, then maybe. silly

Updates look to be live on PS5 and Series X. Weighing in around 23gb for the base game plus a few gb for the DLCs. Will be starting a new save and diving right back into it, never played all the DLCs so this should be fun.

16.5GB update on PC

"widescreen and ultra-widescreen support, as well as fixes to Creation Kit and a variety of quest updates"

16.5gb......really?

The way steam makes developers do updates is to replace entire files. Make a 50 KB change to a 500 MB archive and you have to update the entire file.

Also if they're updating textures that a pretty hefty chunk of file, no one compresses assets any more.

Have to admit this feels a very console focussed update. Not seeing any meaningful changes on PC. Maybe I just can't recall what it looked like beforehand. Anyway, as good a time as any to replay and hopefully finish it this time!

It's being touted as a "Next Gen console" update so it doesn't hugely surprise me that there isn't a lot for PC. Having said that, I had hoped that "Next Gen console" implied 4K textures for PC too but that was merely an assumption on my part.

Finally! I had to use a mod to get it to display on my 21:9 screen back when I used to play it, which was ok-ish unless you were wearing power armour as the visor overlay wouldn't cover the entire width and kind of ruined the immersion somewhat.

The custom HUD mod fixed that IIRC, you can reposition / resize the entire HUD as you like, combined with one of the ultrawide mods it was pretty much flawless..

I wouldn't hold my breath on Bethesda fixing everything that modders ended up doing for them laugh

9 creation club added things. Less than Skyrim got.

I really hated Automatron. It was the final immersion-breakage on an already strained concept.

It was bad enough people were living in shanty huts right next to pre-war houses, and with 200-odd year old skeletons that nobody had bothered to clear away in all that time (human beings just aren't like that!) but then to have technology back to the point where there were robots and robobrains literally everywhere was just a step to far for me.

Still installed and played it, mind.

I preferred the vibe of Fo3 where humanity was barely holding on rather than Fo:NV and Fo4 where mankind had basically fully recovered. And yet not cleared away all the skeletons and detritus.

Yes, that really bothered me. Sorry.

edit: Same goes for Far Cry 3 where you had human skeletons from WW2 literally next to refuse bags, BBQs, and other signs of recent use. Yet nobody had thought to bury them or at least clear them away.

Yeah fair. Fired it up on Xbox and can see the difference. Going to play it on console as been playing 76 on PC so some couch gaming is always welcome

I’ve just (today) reinstalled this on my PS5. Does that mean it’s got all the new good stuff already in it? I can’t see an update pack on the Store. The version I’ve installed is tagged as a PS5 version “free upgrade”.

That should be the new version. Older versions are tagged as PS4

I installed the update last night, playing on an Xbox One.
Started a new game after finishing the TV series so I've only just met the Brotherhood.

When the game loaded, I had about 12 new Quests appear. I'm assuming these are all part of the update?
I'm back at work now so can't tell you the names of the quests, but it was as if I had done loads of exploring while I wasn't playing the game.

Hopefully it's just the new upgrade but it's now quite confusing working out which were active quests pre-update and which are new.
