Well with Bethesda screwing the Fallout London team (and let's be honest here Todd Howard does not exactly have a great reputation ...) I've still decided to upgrade from the original game to GOTY (thanks for whoever posted the CDKEYS link on the other thread - became available again today and cheaper than the big Steam sale a month back).
Now the question is, post an install on Friday (post the big update on Thursday), do I start a brand new game, do I continue from my last save (remembering also that post a forced 4 week break due to a back operation I realised I was not enjoying the game) or do I wait till the London mod comes out and just play that.

I looked at Fallout 4 in my Steam library the other day. ~500 hours played. I remembered how much progress I made in my last save game, getting through the DLCs and building up each outpost into awesome little builds with perimeter defenses and robot tank supply lines
Then I remembered how long it took to install and configure over 100 mods and how I'd have to do it all over again to be able to jump back into the game and have it work properly (and even then it probably wouldn't due to updates and compatibility issues), so I scrapped the idea and reinstalled Subnautica, which I'm currently loving
I will jump back into FO4 with a fresh install and mod build eventually, it's just the time it takes to set up.. I did play some of the full game conversions, like Frost (amazing but very difficult, completely different playstyle to the normal game), and London looks worth a go at some point..

There's meant to be lots optimisations so it will be Steam Deck verified, patiently waiting for the update before playing it again after a decade.

It plays fine on the Steamdeck anywayhttps://twitter.com/BethesdaStudios/status/1781326...
I put 50 hours into F3 and now I'm about 8 hours into F4.
I lock it at 60fps and so fare it's pretty much never dropped from that, if it does it's only by 2 or 3 frames.
Runs really well on Deck and definitely doesn't need the update as it already looks amazing on the small screen.

Both run at max settings. FO3 would almost always maintain 90fps (on my OLED deck) but I'd often limit it to 60fps for battery life (would get about 6ish hours with 60fps, high settings and 75% brightness).
NV would run easily at 60fps but occasionally dip to low 50s, more so because its not as well optimised. Again, 6 hours out of a charge.
Both would drop a lot of frames during a gunfight with a dozen NPCs at once, although I think that's the game engine itself chugging.
Regarding mods, I play vanilla so can't answer for certain - but I believe you can run them with mods.

Just looked and it’s on gamepass. I’ll download it and give it a fresh go.
I’d abandoned the game about an hr in as I got stuck in a kill look by a Godzilla type thing in the street.
If that is the deathclaw at the start just cheese it by running into the corner shop I’d abandoned the game about an hr in as I got stuck in a kill look by a Godzilla type thing in the street.

Nice multiple Futurama references in your post and username though!

I remember that f*cker! I think I stayed on top of the building with the power armour and shot at it from there before finally jumping down to finish it off.
Good times!
That was my strategy... Might try the corner shop next time. Good times!
I just need to see how many mods tomorrow's update breaks.
Just doing a clean install, I wasn't far enough along with my recent modded run to worry about it and can't be bothered with it breaking for a bit. The one downside will be if they've not fixed that damn vague conversation style. The "what I'm actually saying" mod is critical to me if they've not changed it.
I hate when I think an answer is nice and end up giving them st or something! Maybe I'll actually finish the game this time (c300 hours and still not finished it)!

There's a VLDL skit on that. I hate when I think an answer is nice and end up giving them st or something! Maybe I'll actually finish the game this time (c300 hours and still not finished it)!

One of the mods I have changes the dialogue system back to the FO:3/NV style so you get the first line of dialogue. I hate when I think an answer is nice and end up giving them st or something! Maybe I'll actually finish the game this time (c300 hours and still not finished it)!

Mannginger made reference to the mod. I think Mannginger is saying that they hope that Bethesda haven't broken it. My understanding is that Bethesda have said that the modding community is very important to them, and that they are trying very hard *not* to break mods, so we can but hope eh?
When they added the same update to Skyrim it broke all mods that required any of the base scripting tool mods to function, they wouldn't work again until they had been updated. If they are looked after they will be, if the modder is no longer active it won't be until someone else takes it on, that will take time.

Oh, for sure. Any new version requires the Script Extender to be updated. That goes without saying. Gassing Station | Video Games | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
