What about the Scary Maze game? If not, Slender can be creepy if played in a dark room with the volume up high..!

System Shock 2.

Very dated now, but I remember playing a copy as a kid.

About 20 minutes in, some horrid thing came running down a corridor towards me. The game chose this moment to crash with the image locked on the screen. Disc out, back in the box, never played again.
I remember that very well. Later levels you ended up with the homicidal robots that were even creepier "please don't run" or "I can't help you if you hide". The Gamecube remake of Resident Evil is still the scariest of that series, and Amnesia the Dark Descent is pretty never shredding. I never found Half Life 2 scary until I one day stumbled on a video of the sound files played backwards...........

I've just been playing Arkham Knight and found some parts of that to be really jumpy.

I'm far too much a wimp to play most of the games in this thread so it's probably a bit pale in comparison.

Thanks for the info! Downloaded for free. played an hour, in the dark, with headphones. Jumped out my skin. Not sure if I should carry on or not, I have never played the Horror genre before!

For me, the original "Alone in the Dark" was the first scary game I played. Must have been about 10 or 11 at the time, would stay over at my cousins and play it late at night to help add to the atmosphere. Obviously pretty tame nowadays.

Other than that, I'd say AVP as the marine, and Doom 3 were also scary.

I also think DayZ standalone could have the potential to be pretty scary if you play on a night-time server.
