I'm at that bit after killing Rom where you get the respawning enemies, bell ringers etc

Should it be totally rock hard or do I need to go away and come back after leveling up some more?
Ya'Arghul ?

If so that's a hard area, one of the hardest in the game IMO. What level are you, I did it at Lvl 70 with a +9 weapon.

The boss is easy though. One of the easiest.

For PvP, there is a dungeon set up - glyph hizzngr3 - it's being used for PvP. You can access this dungeon pretty early, and being depth 2 ( I think ), clear out the first floor really really easily. But don't kill the boss.

You'll find a large round room on the first layer. Get in, ring your sinister bell and find a partner to try to murder.

It's great. I got 6 or 7 matches in their on a brief session tonight.

The quality of players seems pretty high, since everyone in their is looking specifically to PvP. So they know what they are doing. I was getting consistent duels at level 70, but I've read that you'll get fights anywhere between 70 and 120.

I think the etiquette is no healing. Or at least, don't heal unless the other guy heals.

Yes - I did unlock that door. That all makes sense. I will head back down the shortcut and scavenge around a bit more to find the boss.

Out of interest, I watched a guy on youtube and quite quickly he was able to buy other weapons. He bought a massive hammer weapon but I have never seen any for sale in the options that you get from the weird guys in the fountain in dreamland. He had loads of options such as torch and lantern and big hammer etc.

Have I missed something? I feel I have cleared out every possible area that I go to so far but before he had even killed boss one or maybe it was after boss 1 and before 2, he had this big hammer for sale which I haven't had an option to buy yet.

Cheers,
Steven_RW
BOsses and some NPC hunters drop badges when you kill them. Having these badges gives you more options in the shop.

The big hammer is available after getting the Sword Hunter Badge by killing the Cleric Beast. It's the Kirk Hammer.

I've hit a bit of a wall on the Loran Darkbeast in Lower Loren Chalice Dungeon layer 3.

THe camera is just awful, it's constantly spinning and flipping directions. So you go to dodge one way, the camera spins and you dodge into attacks rather than away from them. IF I do it without locking on, none of my attacks connect.

Update:

Made it to the Frontier. Struggled to get to the witch boss but got it all sorted eventually and beat the witch on third go.

Found the way to return to unseen. Cleared that out except the level boss after the big pig. Decided I would come back another day...

Left the boss at the top of the steps in Yargnum (spl?!). I turned right at the top of the set of stairs before the final one and found the electric shock hunter. Got killed so decided to leave him be. Went the opposite way through the value with the riflemen and eventually got to Frontier.

Questions: There is a type of enemy who skulks about in a cloak (about 1.5 times my height) and he is very deadly. You meet them up the stairs near the lamp in unseen village. I can't beat them in a fair fight, I have to keep finding ways to stop their progress such as a small doorway or stairs that they are too tall to descend. I'm wondering if there is a secret to dealing with them..! :-)

Great game.

SRW
Are those the enemies with the sacks ?

If so, you want to run up and smash them. Then they start to glow red for a bit, this is them buffing, while they do this get behind and do a charged R2. This staggers them, then backstab them (R1) up close for massive damage. That will probably kill them.

Now you are in nightmare frontier, you get the joy of being invaded. Lots.

Yes - those are the enemies with the sacks. Quite casual in their actions till they glow red and suddenly they have too much energy and wreak havoc. Thanks for the guidance.

I'm a fan of charged R2 when i know someones timing. I use rapid R1 attacks for those I don't know their timing. I have learned a bit about stunning people with my pistol and then attacking them. Occasionally I do some sort of mega move when the person is stunned but I'm not sure I know what exact button combo to press to execute a big attack when I have pistol stunned an enemy. Can you guide pls?

I've been playing offline most of the time just because it suits me and my style (or lack of) but now I guess it's time to play online :-).

I managed to get into the first dungeon and was wasted by the Undead Giant a few times. I had no blood echoes or vials for energy so left him for now and will return.

I've found some sort of electrical shock weapon but my threaded cane is so much more powered up and my skill is high so I'm much better with it and stick to it.

What weapon have you been preferring throughout the game?

Cheers

Steven RW
To do massive damage, stun them with your pistol then just walk up close in front of them and push R1. You'll do a visceral attack. Charged R2 attack from behind will stun them, walk up behind them and press R1 and you will do the same visceral attack from the back.

I almost exclusively use the Threaded Cane. Mines is now +10 with decent gems (Physical Attack +21.9%, Physical Attack + 19% and Physical Attack + 15% & Physical Attack + 15) or something like that. With bolt paper as well it does pretty good damage! I think it's stats is something like 156 + 258. It should get you through New Game easily and I like it for PvP. Although judging by the weapons other people are using in PvP, it seems like the best are the burial blade and Blades of Mercy. Both are kinda hard to get though.

The electrial weapon is tonitrus, good weapon but it breaks too quickly. It's durability is rubbish. Once upgraded to +10 it's incredibly powerful though with the right build. It's not a weapon for a skill build.

Keep at it. I found LOTS of dodging and then a few swipes of the light attack and then dodge some more. Lots of healing and I somehow got through it eventually. I'm currently fighting some massive electrical beast in the "unseen village". He mashed me in two seconds and I had no spare health vials so it was all over pronto tonto :-)

I will be back!

SRW
You can fight him way later if you want, then he's a piece of cake.

Pthumerian Descendant in depth 5 Ithyll is still kicking my ass, this is 4 days on this boss now I think.

I got him down to such a slither of health, a couple of more hits and he would be dead. The camera screwed me. I clicked to lock on when he was right in front of me, instead it didn't lock on and spun 180 degrees. He killed me.

Also lost 1.1 million echoes on him.

What does NG+1 mean? Is that like playing it all again after you have completed it already?
Yep, you keep your level, your equipment, consumables but start all over from the start. The enemies are all tougher.

In Dark Souls 2 there were some enemies that were exclusive to NG+

Rom is yet to come and it sounds like you haven't missed anything out. I would say around about now is a good time to start ringing that beckoning bell and summoning co-op players to come and help you out. The Shadow of Yarnam characters are tough and I had to summon another player for the first time to help me out when I reached this stage for the first time.
I found Shadows of Yarnham to be one of the easiest bosses.

Take out the guy that cast spells first. Then the other two are easy. When you're down to one, and it starts casting those snakes, just get in his face and mash attacks. He staggers and you can interrupt everything. If you're fast enough, he doesn't get a single attack off.

Co-op Summoning: How does that work? So I ring the bell. Who gets the option to join my game? If anyone, then why have I not received the option to join someone else's game co-op?

Regarding ROM etc. Great I will get there in good time.

Shadow Trio: I will give them a good few goes on my own, I don't feel the need to ask for help unless I have really tried and failed quite a few times. Half the fun is eventually managing to kill someone that has beaten you to a pulp several times. I will wander around the Forrest for a while and build up some extra levels via BloodEchoes before giving him another go.

I keep collecting these cool badges that appear somewhere in my characters inventory in a separate section. All different names. They seem to come with some sort of skill uplift but when I click on them the USE is greyed out and the only option is discard....

Any thoughts?

Thanks,
Steven RW
Be aware that while you are ringing your beckoning bell looking for someone to join your world, you can be invaded.

Update: I’ve now managed to kill the undead giant in the first level of dungeon and then made it down to level 3, where it looks like I have completed that dungeon now as I couldn’t find anywhere to go but back to the Hunters Dream. I returned to this dungeon much later than my first attempt where I was literally destroyed by undead giant so gave up. I’m a much more experienced player now and sorted the giant out relatively easily. I have made it to ROM but not figured out how to beat him/IT yet after a couple of goes. I’m working on it. I have taken him down to half energy so far. I went back through the forbidden woods and down into the cave that has the three unarmed giants and up to Iosefka’s clynic and taken my invite to Cainhurst. Made it through Cainhurst but literally been DESTROYED by the end guy (name eludes me.. so today I’ll call him..) Captain Cainhurst. Working my way through how to deal with him.

So its ROM and captain Cainhurst for me. I also need to work out the Nightmare Frontier place (was invaded for my first time at the weekend, lost all three combats but enjoyed it all the same…) The weird aliens with the big heads and all the mouths have caused me issues as I walk through the poisoned river. Plenty to do and still loving it.

Invited one person to help but invited them in the level just before ROM so as I walked through the mist to ROM they couldn’t join me so I had to expel them. Learned for next time!! ?

Oh yeah, met the guy at the top of the building in the Forbidden woods (the building with the elevators). I spoke to him and offered him sanctuary at the cathedral or wherever it is but then decided to kill him at which point all hell broke loose as he was a massive beast… managed to make my way back into the building corridor and fought him off from safety. If I had been stuck in the open that would have been PROPER bad news ?.

Cheers

SRW
The guy at Cainhurst is Martyr Logarius, I hear a lot of people saying this was a tough boss. I think I got lucky as I murdered him first try without much difficulty. I've found earlier bosses to be far more difficult than him.

What you did regarding summoning was correct, you can't summon once you pass the fog gate. NOrmally as soon as you go through the fog gate your co-op partner can then pass. I think ROM is slightly different though! I don't think your partner can pass through the fog gate until you initiate the boss fight by jumping off the ledge.

I've been stuck at that fog gate as a co-operator too.

That NPC you tried to send to the chapel. He's a bad man, spoilers ahead **************************** he will kill all the other NPCs that are present, he's a cannibal *******************

He's quite a tough fight isn't he! YOu fight him again in the chalice dungeon in his beast form, he's called the abhorrent beast. It's a difficult fight! It's super aggressive and hits real hard, you can't really play passive against it. I used 20 vials to down it in the chalice dungeon.

I'd say probably Demon Souls.

I think it goes Bloodborne > Demon Souls > Dark Souls >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Dark Souls 2

Demon Souls is worth it for the Tower Of Latria area and the Flamelurker boss fight.
