Anyone else here see Richard and Judy last night?

They had a bunch of 'experts' talking about the effects of violent games on kids and were using GTA as an example. One of these raving lentilists reckoned that adults who played these games are severely warped and the people who make them are no better than producers of child pornography! (I kid you not). Their original solution to it all was 'ban the lot'

There was one sane woman there who brought to the discussion the fact that children shouldn't be playing games aimed at the 18+ audience. Richard, showing himself up once again, answered that any woman who finds her boyfriend 'harassing virtual prostitutes' should be very concerned.

It was quite clear that none of these people had played the game as not one of them knew that it's all tongue-in-cheek. I'm supprised they didn't give Mario $hit for stepping on mushrooms.

I laughed my way through it, finding it hard to take seriously, but I guess a great many will. I just can't believe that a handfull of do-gooders feel they have the right to tell an industry the size of the gaming one what they can and can't do.

My Mrs just laughed at it, especially when it showed GTA and the guy killing the prostitute to get his money back, why ..... because she does that herself when she plays it.

It just smacked of parents trying to dodge the blame for letting little johnny play nasty games. FFS one of the mothers said "I will now monitor what my son buys off of the net!" why the hell aren't you monitoring him now?

As for being branded the equivalent of a paedo, i find that down right insulting, the guy needs to get some perspective on the situation.

And everytime this comes up, Rockstar rub their hands with glee as it shifts more copies.

I personally find books far more disturbing than games or film. Books worm their way into your mind and sit there, grinning at you.....

It'd be nice if in the 3rd one they made it a bit less linear. I mean it's great fun to play but there's no choice in what you do really.
