Sony Project Morpheus (VR)

Wow! I played a bit of Battlezone this afternoon and thought it was good. I played Until Dawn and the diving thing tonight and was blown away!
Stepping around my living room while apparently being in a shark cage was fantastic! Once you accept that the resolution level makes it seem like you are looking through a light gauze it's amazingly immersive. Much more so than I expected.

Considering how underpowered the PS4 is compared to a PC that meets the requirements for OR or Vive it's very impressive in both resolution and screen door. I have a Vive and have owned a DK1 and a DK2 so knew what the resolution was going to be like and it's met my expectations.
Tracking of the headset seems reasonable but the controller not so much. Not played anything yet that uses the Move controllers.
So far any game I've played has felt like VR is sort of tacked on. Valkyrie, Battlezone, the robot basketball one, one you can look around but you are actually playing on a controller which takes you back out of the immersion. VR doesn't really add anything to the experience.
I think (and this was my fear all along) that the resolution will be disappointing to people used to playing on a HD tv. Which is probably the reason the reviews are good is that the Pros had reasonable expectations/previous experience. Joe public, not so impressed because a lack of experience and the frankly deceptive videos set those expectations too high.
Overall, it's a good try. I don't think it's going to be the machine to break VR into the mainstream. It needed to be cheaper and/or better to do that and maybe some killer app unique VR centric experiences would help as well.

Set mine up after work and have played a few things.
Did 2 races on Driveclub, no issues at all! the only game that made me feel slightly funny was rigs, but i think thats down to aiming by looking and the speed of it, both battle zone and eve valkyrie seemed fine.
Just finished downloading the store demo which seems to have the extra stuff the US got on their disc so I'll be having a go at some more tomorrow.
Liking it so far, sure the resolution and screen door effect could be better but once you start playing something and don't actively look for it, you hardly notice!
Will be downloading Batman, Driveclub and Tumble next, job simulator will have to wait until I've tried the demo

Also very impressed with it, only played Driveclub and Eve Valkyrie so far and a couple of mini games. Driveclub's graphics are very clearly degraded but its still good fun, no sickness issues so far either. Eve is very impressive, tight controls and looks great, not sure how much depth it has but as an experience it's fun. I'm looking forward to trying the other games.
It's quite sad to see the Vive/OR fan boys talking this down so much, Ive tried both of them and been impressed but you do wonder when any big game developers will ever get behind them and produce AAA titles when there's such a relatively small number in the wild. Surely they need this to succeed as much as anyone. Considering PS VR is running from old tech and it's producing a decent experience thats comparable with the others it's a big achievement. My expectations weren't sky high so I'd say I'm satisfied with it so far.

More to it than just resolution. I've not tried the gear VR but as I understand it the native resolution of the screen is higher than the PC headsets and a lot higher than PSVR.
However, having a read it seems that the Gear can't use all that resolution or render it in a high quality way.
Add in the fact that the tracking isn't as good then the overall experience is inferior.
Graphically all the VR HMD's look a generation backwards (or more) graphically but it's the experience that makes it. The room scale tracking on the Vive is what really blows me away. Looking down and seeing your controller on the game floor and it being in exactly the same place on the real floor is awesome. I've tried to lean on stuff that isn't there I'm so immersed in the gameworld. Car racing with a wheel and pedals is in another world.

Anyone who has picked up a headset, worth looking at the PS Store as there are a few free downloads to be had, including a survival horror title called Kitchen (think it may be a Resident Evil taster from Capcom).
I wussed out after about 2 minutes
Haha, I wussed out on Until Dawn last night. Mrs told me I had to turn it off as I was being too noisy and was going to wake the kids! Got this Kitchen on download (its brilliant how you can order from the PS Store at work and it starts downloading on your console!)I wussed out after about 2 minutes

I had a DK2 for a short while, using a GeForce 770. How would this compare?Tracking of the headset seems reasonable but the controller not so much. Not played anything yet that uses the Move controllers.

Bought Rez Infinite today after reading positive reviews. it's awesome, looks incredible and plays really well too. It's like Lawnmower man but good.
Also fired up Rush of blood, a lot of fun also, Move controllers worked well, I'm not sure what people are moaning about tbh, I've had no issues with anything so far.

.... It's worryingly quiet on this thread....
That's what I'm thinking too. I cancelled my pre-order a couple of months ago as I was worried that it would be another 5 minute wonder of mine but after seeing the Star Wars Battlefront demo it made me think I made the wrong choice.. I'm now starting to think I made the right decision.welshjon81 said:
So whats the verdict? It's worryingly quiet on this thread, I'm not sure if thats because they are rubbish or just because you are all busy in the VR world!.
Is it worth the money in picking one up or do you regret it?!?!
As an experience its great, a lot more intense than normal gaming so you can really only play for an hour or two at a time. It lends itself to a different style of gaming. You get a real feeling of space and perspective, also interacting with characters is very different, you are actually standing and sitting with them. In the Heist game you can actually have a smoke. Is it worth the money in picking one up or do you regret it?!?!
I don't regret getting it but there aren't any killer games yet, they still feel like tech demos.
I find myself thinking what games would work well in VR and a lot of them will, a Final Fantasy or GTA would work, horror games - definitely. Control is an issue, moving and slewing can make you feel sick, driving should be good and shooting with the move controllers is brilliant.
