Get steam, check out green light, lots of new ideas and new styles. As others have said, BF4, GT6, Forza etc are all 'updates' of the first game. You are essentially playing the same stuff again, with better graphics etc.

Try out Kerbal Space Program, Minecraft or World of tanks. The main 3 that got me back into properly enjoying gaming.

Minecraft and GTA5 are where I spend all my gaming time these days. Minecraft because it's so creative, GTA5 because it's free roam and you just spend most the time arsing about at your own pace.

Don't really get what all the hype about the next-gen consoles is about, I must admit.

I'd have stayed on the Xbox360 if my friends hadn't bought the new consoles, had the Xbone about 3 weeks now and I think it's horrible, been very disappointed with it.

I'm only 23 and I'm in agreement that games such as BF4/CoD etc all used to be much better than they are now, because more effort went into the story than effects, cool explosions etc. I remember playing CoD, and CoD 2 on PC when they were first released, and the single player was awesome, and the multiplayer was much better than it is now (it's also hell of a lot better on PC than console).

The games that thrive now are ones such as minecraft and GTA 5, which let you use your imagination to do things. Minecraft is creation, GTA 5 is finding funny st to do in a large, open world. This is why I feel No Man's Sky will be a success when it comes out, because it's more about what your imagination can do.

Gone are the days where you get a good story telling game (I played The Last of Us and just don't understand the hype, the story was predictable as fk).

COD4 had a brilliant story and multiplayer IMO. MW2 was st, and it all went crap from there. I quite like the newest one, but the story was really, really short. The mutiplayer isn't perfect, but it's better than previous perk-ridden incarnations. However one thing that pisses me off about it (and other games) is this "pay to play/season pass" bullst, when you've already paid full whack for them in the first place.

22 and have lost time/interest. I used to enjoy my playstation/Xbox etc. Since 2011 I've switched my PS3 on around 10 times and the Xbox even less. If I had the time, I'd probably pick it up but there's always something I'd rather be doing or work requires my attention.

I would urge jaded gamers to check out Spelunky, its on PS/XB/PC and i discovered it when it was free on psplus.

The whole steam/xboxarcade/psstore indie style games are quite the tonic to the cookiecutter all about the graphics games alot of you are saying about.

Growing up with amstrad cpc464 and amigas (i'm 32) pretty much any game made in the last 10 years i think the graphics are amazing so maybe im easily pleased on that front.

And to add to my two peneth to the Minecraft thing - it didnt appeal AT ALL until my wife made me play it, now we play it all the time and we even watch alot of minecraft dedicated youtube channels...

I think part of the issue is as you get older your free time becomes more precious, and you're less likely to spend it on an unknown quantity. Certainly that's thd case with me.

Also, games are simply evolving now. And until VR takes off properly, the next new thing is some way off. You're unlikely to have a full 3D Quake experience, or scripted events and story telling in Half Life 'moment' again.

Right now, at 32 years old, I have a six foot 1080 screen, 11.2 surround and every gadget (Playseat + G25!) I could ask for and yet I enjoyed gaming a whole lot more when my nose was pressed up against a 14' CRT scrapping with AI multiplayer 'bots' I'd ripped off the web and spent hours programming into Quake 1 (and 2!). Or the time I first 'witnessed' my 3DFX card running Quake in OpenGL.

Oh, am playing a lot of games on my phone: Real Racing 3 and Mage and Minions. These two games seem to work well with a touch screen. Have tried FPS games (various) and it isn't the same without a keyboard, mouse and a big screen. RR3 could do with having a slightly bigger screen (almost tempted to get a 7" tablet just for RR3!) but it's still very enjoyable on my S3.

I gave up my 360 at the begining of this year, I'm 39.

It had sat under the TV for a few months, unused so I asked for a particular game for Christmas, I completed it in a few weeks and then it sat under the TV again for a month or so and I just thought "sod it" it's not used and as there is a new one out later in the year I may aswell sell it whilst it's still worth a decent amount and then if I miss it I'll splash out on the Xbox One when it comes out; I haven't missed it.

I do sometimes fancy having a play but it is a rare occurance and TBH I don't really have the time; after work I cook dinner, I walk the dog and myself and the wife settle down about 8:30-9:00, the only real chance I'd get to play on it would be when she's out of an evening but that isn't that often.

I do think that a lot of games now are too complicated and long winded, you don't seem to be able to pop in to one for a quick 20 minutes or so whilst waiting for the wife to clear up the kitchen or get ready to go out, I think that is part of the reason for me having gone off them.

I miss Call of Duty 2. That was my favourite game of all time. No perks, no add ons.

Just trying out the Xbox one now as one of the kids got one for Christmas.

I like the idea of the Hyperkin RetroN machines - just need to wait for the PS1 patents to expire...

I'm a couple of years older than you & 100% agree. I used to play a lot more games than I used to and I think it's because I (a) had a lot more time when I was younger and (b) a lot of games were easier to pick up & "have a quick go" than they are now.

Yup. I've arrived here, too.

Games that should have been great but weren't.
Developers modifying games after you've bought them for whatever reason.
"Incomplete" releases which become complete when you fork out for a season pass.
Toxic online multiplayer experiences.
No more awesome moments. We've seen it all before.
Etc. Etc.

I feel I ought to enjoy gaming, but just don't. The whole thing promises so much, but delivers so little.
I've been massively disappointed by many of the titles that people (both here and elsewhere) rave about.
Have I just outgrown it?

I should love World of Tanks.

But the limited map rotation, epic grind and ambiguous tech tree kind of killed my interest.

I don't really consider myself a gamer at all any more. FPS bore me to tears (because I'm useless and I don't enjoy them at all). I'm a petrolhead who uses racing sims/games to get my fix as it's (mostly) cheaper and more convenient than the real life options. It's 80% of the experience for a fraction of the cost and inconvenience... (85%+ now I've got an Oculus Rift, will be 90% when I've built the motion rig lol)

Am still playing RR3, 3 years later!

Got a 7" but for some weird reason it releases the touch when I press the screen for more than a few seconds. Maybe it's hardware related?

I recently bought a Nintendo Switch and that has reignited my interest, particularly Zelda.

But also Mariokart and a few smaller, simpler games - Wonderboy for example. All 3 of the above have perfect gameplay IMO, which is missing from a lot of new games.

I'm 35, used to game a lot but of late fallen out of love with it. Had and xbox 360 and PS3 but didn't buy the latest generation. I built a PC a couple of years ago and decided to upgrade recently with an RX480 so can play games at 1080p and 1440p at a push.

Got Doom with the graphics card and quite enjoyed the sillyness of it but then bought GTA V and I just can't in to it.

Any ideas? Mainly like FPS and driving games. 3rd person too sometimes.

Main driving games on PC right now are Assetto Corsa, Project Cars and Dirt Rally. You need to invest in a wheel to enjoy them properly though. More casual is Euro Truck Simulator (yes driving HGV's_ and American Truck Simulator. All worth getting come Steam sale time.

Can't help you with FPS games sorry...

PC? The latest Battlefield. It might take a bit of getting used to especially as you have to learn the maps plus while you're learning the controls, you're getting slaughtered by 15 year olds with crazily fast reflexes.
