I managed to get all four of the British DD's, Lightning is the best of the bunch. I like Cossack too, but have a fondness for that, as I used to love the box art on the Airfix kit of it when I was a kid!

I have found myself playing the French cruisers and late tier BB's a lot, as they are a hell of a lot of fun, the secondary's on Alsace and Republique are great, more so with 18 and19 point captains.

You managed to bag the Lightning mission??! Seems to be a rare beast with a lot of folks pretty peed off with WG enticing people to spend money on RN Premium crates.

Finally grinded out enough free xp for HMS Nelson...

Well she is different, armour sucks in most cases but you can angle her against cruisers who are firing AP (she burns nicely with HE but has a super heal which sorts that out in about 15 seconds! redface )

Guns are ok, gun range is poor at 18.2km, front end is all citadel so going up against anything above T7 is a bit dangerous, kills cruisers nicely though wink

Downsides are that she is a little sluggish at turning and her top speed of just under 24 knots isnt spectacular, you really don't want to end up in a t9 game and you need those heals to keep you alive and her AA is poor, forget about torpedo protection too, she has none, its like 19% so you will take serious damage when hit.

Gneisenau can be a lot of fun, but only if you do a full secondary build for her, as the RNG for the main guns is comical, even with a 19 point captain and better dispersion modules. Which I have now changed for all secondary modules. A great brawler...

Bismarck is very nice (and much better dispersion for main guns), but I think that once you get over the novelty, you'll long for the Tirp torp option in certain situations. I also have full secondary build for both, and Kurfurst, of course.

Yes and no, its a rare ship but it can't tank as well as say HMS Hood and you have to get close to your targets but it can be really good fun, just not the best ship at T7, its 9 guns at the front do help though wink

T5 Rnked Sprint should hopefully be less stressy than actual ranked (I got to R5 but wasn't enjoying the saltiness)

I've been an on/off player of WOW for the last few years.

I seem to have found my level at T7. Current boats of choice are the Fiji and the Gneisenau.

I've dipped my toe into T8 but the step up is just too great, meaning it's not as much fun. Not sure if I've got the time and patience to grind through T8.
Also a lot more abuse in the chat especially from premium players who I assume have paid money for their ships.

I accidentally killed one of my own team recently with torps, D'oh. My mistake in the heat of battle. The player who i killed shrugged it off with a 'no worries' reply to my apology. A T9 premium player would of had a meltdown I imagine.

Bumpety Bump . . .

I logged back in a few weeks ago after a prolonged absence, and after a few days was gifted (without warning) 5mcredits, I think a few k doubloons, a premium Warspite, which I already had so instead the value of around 7m credits iirc, her 10 point captain, 7 days Premium, and something like 25 of every signal. Quite a nice bunch of gifts really. If memory serves me right you will also receive another 2 weeks of Premium time once you've completed or won a certain number of battles, 25 I think it was.

As far I understand it this is automatic but is also to do with the Referral programme.

The downside to all this is that Ranked Season 15 has just commenced! At tier X of course! biggrin

I got into this recently on PC, it's way better than the console version. My favourite ships at the moment are the Atago, Bajie and Massachusetts. I don't have a 19 point commander yet but even without IFHE, the manual secondaries skill still wrecks, munches DDs and a lot of cruisers, good for passive fire setting on BBs.

I've got the Georgia, Kronshtadt, Benham and Alaska ready to go but I'm holding off for a bit to skill up before going in for tier 9. I've got the Yoshino and Smolensk too, but again, need to get comfortable at tier 9 before I go to 10. The Christmas loot boxes were very generous, a trend for Wargaming titles. For now I'm just grinding premiums to generate a stockpile of cash, level some commanders up and get some free XP.

I'm going to the Japanese cruiser line and German cruiser line, aiming to get the Zao as my first tier X.

I've sunk a lot of time and money into it over the years - still play it more than any other game.

Top tip - relax and always keep an eye on the mini-map smile

Top tip:

Don't use your good flags and camos until the de-sync issues are fixed.

The RN cruisers are a tough line to play, particularly the light cruisers, as they don't have an high explosive rounds, which makes fighting battleships tough. The RN heavy cruisers line are probably easier for beginners.

I think cruisers are the best way to learn the game. You get to fire ever 6 or 7 seconds, which helps to teach you how to lead a shot and see your adjustments making an impact. With a battleship, you fire maybe 2 salvos a minute, you need to be able to get rounds on target without needing a test shot first.

Battleships don't punish bad positioning as much as cruisers either. You can sail nose in, tanking shots and healing your damage, whereas a cruiser will get wrecked in a single salvo if you put yourself in a vulnerable position. I think it's good to learn the tough lessons earlier on.

As above though, relax and enjoy it. Use the + key to make your minimap bigger and always look at it. Who is spotted, who can see you, who can shoot you etc. There's a lot to take in and a lot of mechanics to learn, most of which isnt even explained in the game, so I'd recommend heading to the official wiki for the game and reading the mechanics section.

I experimented with camo last night - what are the de-sync issues you are referring to?

At the moment the game is suffering from an issue where the position of the ship isn't being properly synchronised between all of the players in the game via the server. Effectively, a ship you are shooting at may be in a different position to how it appears on your screen. This will be apparent if you watch your shells landing on target. Some of them may go through the target and not detonate, as if they missed, even though you saw them hit the target.

I saw demonstrations of how aiming a half-ship length of where you think the target is can help you land the shots, but this is hard to manage when you're in a battleship with a 30 second reload and you're not sure which ships are properly synchronised and which aren't.

The reason I savoy should save your flags and camos, particularly the rare experience, captain XP and economic ones, is because they are quite valuable and they act as a multiplier based in your experience gained in battle. If you have bad games because of the desync issues, you're wasting the potential of the boosters and the good flags and XPs can be hard to come by.
