I haven't played since September 2022, and I keep hearing things have just gotten worse and worse.
Have a Unicum win rate (oohh err), all lines at tier 10 (apart from CVs), most Premium (including hard/impossible to obtain things) and various super ships and I reckon at best I'll get for that time and effort is about £500 if I am lucky!
I looked about 2 years ago and I think it would have been double, so clearly the popularity has dropped on the game.

I've had some pretty good matches lately, not winning much more than normal - but the combination of ranked and brawls is much more entertaining than randoms where you have a greater chance of a muppet team.
Since the beta days players have been moaning that the WG are killing it... as it stands subs are annoying, but not a game changer.

It's a very, VERY niche game with a limited playerbase which stopped growing way back in 2016 and only got a temporary bump in numbers due to COVID in 2020. Rather than continually growing, like a good games company should want to do, they've added features which have cause a large amount of turnover with the playerbase, which WG see as great as new players tend to spend money, but it also means that large amounts of existing players also leave, taking their skill and experience with them and their numbers are only equalled by the amount of new players, leaving the whole game "stuck".Ideally WG need to bring in new life but also retain existing players, that way the playerbase grows and WG get to make more money, but instead they're seemingly only interested in annoying old players (who've most stopped spending money) to concentrate on flashy "gimmicks" to attract new players, who get curb stomped at T6 and leave shortly afterwards, creating an even worse drain.
I love subs and have been exclusively playing my U Boat. Trying to get the Badge for average of 60k damage over 100 battles. I'm stuck at 55k at the moment.
Not helped by the fact I tend to get 200k damage in one game followed by two games at 10k when my teammates abandon me to an aggressive DD.
Playing subs is also a sure fire way of shedding Karma though, especially when you find a lonely BB to chase down and kill

For those with spare coal and like playing high tier destroyers - the Gronigen (formerly the Friesland, until people complained it was over powered, so Wargaming.net removed it from the game then brought it back under another name and made it available also for gold) is now available for coal -228,000, though we all should have a 25% discount (which covered the cost of a 10 point captain).

Ive got the Friesland but I'm hopeless in it. Possibly shows how much I rely on my torps as a dd player.
Current fave boat is a full secondary Napoli. If you push and get the right victim(s) the damage it does is hilarious.
Must admit I'm part struggling to learn it - my go to high end DD is the Harland, so keep wide and scout, hope nothing faster comes close, and use those quick loading, ultra fast torps - few will hit however they do guide BBs away from where they were heading.Current fave boat is a full secondary Napoli. Friesland/Gronigen I think has the same speed and manoeuvrability, however part of what makes it tier 9 rather than 10 is a spotting range of 6.4km compared to 6.0 for the Harland (plus smoke and sonar instead of torps). Think the guns are close to twice as fast though,
Problems of course are radar, ever more "we're not CVs honest guv" and more sub 6.0 visibility US DDs.
For anyone, like me, fed up with the super ships, over powered CVs, subs, etc - try the asymmetric battles. Only tried for the first time yesterday. Five players v 10 bots. You have to be tier 9 or 10, bots are up to tier 8. Great fun and feels more like the old days, plus the bots can be tough (bit mixed) and I have been on battles where we have lost. An AFK ship from the start dooms you alas (only happened once to me so far). Would suggest this is best with DDs and BBs.

I'd been playing long enough to remember when they initially trialled this way back in`16 only at mid tiers with the bots being way larger in number and coming in three waves with (maybe) a higher tier with each wave IIRC. It was an absolute huge amount of fun so obviously WG scrapped, it as usual.
