Was really hoping for an expanded campaign map. I hope they don't simply add separate campaign maps for the races.

I too would like to see the Elves, would be good to expand the grand campaign to include the current map and where the Elves reside. For me the current map just feels too small.

I've played Empire, Dwarves and Vampires to completion on Hard. Tried the Green skins and Chaos but didn't really get on with them.

I really liked the Vampires, I was able to build a high tier army very quickly and with its combination of monstrous, terrifying and powerful units it just melts the opposition. That's despite its lack of ranged units.

I think the main campaign map will be expanded upon when the 2nd game comes out, I expect to see the west appear with high elves, wood elves, dark elves and lizard men. Then the 3rd game seeing the south and east unlocked with ogres, tomb kings.

That's how I have interpreted their meaning by the trilogy will interlink with each other.

Looks like you're pretty much right - the second game has been announced with High Elves, Dark Elves, Lizardmen and Skaven as a separate map, but can link up with the existing map if you have the first game.
Wood Elves turned up as DLC for the first game, had a fight against them as Bretonnians for the first time a couple of weeks back and I've never had an army so utterly decimated as I did fighting them! Those archers who can fire backwards while moving are crazy and just destroyed any infantry before I got anywhere near them. Haven't had a game as Wood Elves yet (waiting for a sale), but the Bretonnians are fun and the chivalry mechanic is something completely different for the TW series.

Just dragging this thread back from the dead.

Always wanted to buy this, but could never justify the £40 plus all the extra DLC for the amount of time I'd get to play it, with 2 small kids my time is very limited.

HOWEVER, on Steam the first game is currently £9.99, with 33% off all the DLC, and the 2nd game is £26, with 25% off all the DLC. Given the current sale I'm tempted to buy the lot, as even if I don't get to play thousands of hours, I'll probably keep returning to it for years to come. But then I remember I've just pre-ordered Red Dead 2, which will consume all the little time I have anyway. Hmmm

1 & 2 are great games. Looking forward to number 3, see what they do with the combined map...

Desperately wish they would do a W40K version. Total War games are good but I've never got on with ye olde worlde Warhammer. I'd imagine epic scale W40k battles would be....well epic!

I imagine they'd have to do Epic 40k to get a sense of scale, Empire was stretching things a bit with the shooting instead of close combat, not sure how they could 40k without the units stood in lines!
Still looking forward to an army size 40k game.

Yes even a Supreme Commander style 40k would be cool. Saying that Id even enjoy a 4x strategy in the form of Sins of a Solar Empire or Stellaris.

Honestly think the only reason CA were given the fantasy licence was because GW killed it off/rebooted it with Age of Sigmar.

Hopefully, the support for this game will continue for many years, there's loads of missing units/minor factions that they can cream DLC from, and the player base is huge. When you consider the number of hours of gameplay you can get from this, its a ridiculous bargain.

Bumping this thread as 3 has just been released, what do people think of it?
I've only played a bit but it certainly seems 'more of the same, with some bits added' so far, which is a good thing as I love what they've done in 1 and 2. Can't wait until the main campaign comes out with the full map available.

Cool stuff:

  • Sieges hugely improved
  • Chaos, finally!
  • Kislev and Ogres
  • China, er Grand Cathay
  • New campaign mechanics look pretty fun
Bad:

  • Bad UI choices. Menus are less easy to read and navigate than W2. Some of the decisions are baffling backwards steps
  • Charging units bugged again, the story of Total War: Warhammer's life as a franchise
  • Loads of other bugs, normal for a TW game
  • Chaos army rosters feel small and samey for the most part. They could have at least changed the models between factions for shared units instead of only changing the colours.
Overall, it will be amazing but I think it needs a good few months of patches first. Once it's all ironed out, I'll really start putting the hours in.

The last campaign I did in Warhammer 2 was Taurox the Brass Bull, amazingly fun and violent, I hope the campaigns in Warhammer 3 will be as good. I want to do Ogee Kingdoms first as I think their mechanics look really interesting.

Can only agree with that!
We tried a 3 player multiplayer (shock horror!) and it was forever slowing down to slideshows in battles then eventually crashed completely when two of us tried to close rifts at the same time. Everyone having their turn at the same time sounds good in theory, but in practice it's all a bit awkward. I wish they did a half way house of allowing building, research and diplomacy at the same time but having moving armies sequential.

Grand Campaign / Immortal Empires (the "real" Total War game rather than a smaller map) has been released and has had its first patch if anyone is still playing.
