Is that full win 10 price or an easily available cheaper copy? Can save £80 if not the cheaper option.

Also have you considered air cooling? The be quiet dark rock pro 4 is quieter than my case fans, great at cooling and a lot cheaper than liquid cooling.
I like to be sure on cooling, I don't mind the cost or noise for that reassurance, my own PC has water cooling and has been on 24/7 for the last 6 years+ with zero issues, that means a lot to me.

OP can have a free Win 10 licence if he messages me.

Got a load of spare licenses from decommissioned PC’s.
I may take you up on that, thank you smile

I think you'll always find people who swear blind one is better than the other.

When it comes to longevity, AMD are about to release their 4th generation chip on the same socket whereas Intel seems to change every couple of generations. Intel seem to have better single core clock speeds and AMD seem better at multi core tasks.

Intel are doing some stupid things to lock memory clock speeds down on all but their high end boards etc now

Can’t comment on too much but be aware that AMD should have new CPU’s out before the end of the year and both AMD and Nvidia are releasing new GPU’s in the next couple of months, so if you were thinking of buying some bits and pieces over the next couple of months, don’t.
Problem with this is, that's pretty much a permanent state of play. At some point you just have to crack on and work to whatever your budget is.

I've just ordered all the components for a £1500 'mini PC. The months of fun I'll get out of it before work picks up next year will be more than worth not having whatever the latest and greatest is at a certain point in time. Also, Flight Sim 2020.

For what it's worth...

Inwin A1 Plus Mini ITX Case w/ 650W Gold PSU
X570 Mobo
Ryzen 3800X
32GB DDR4 3200 MHz RAM
GeForce RTX 2070 Super 8GB
Samsung 970 Evo 1TB M.2 (x2)

I imagine that'll keep me going for some time, particularly so as I haven't been a PC gamer for about a decade, so plenty of back catalogue stuff to enjoy.

In your situation I’d probably have done the same too.

However, the new Nvidia cards are launching next month. Some things are worth waiting for if you’re able to.

I’ve not built a gaming pc for a while. And not on a tight budget (£650 quid or so).

AMD seems to be the pick for CPU (R5 3600?)
What GPU gives best bang for buck for ~£160 ish?

(He’s like to play ms flight sim at 1080p)

Edit - had a play. A 3600 Bundle plus an RX580, case, PSU and drives is about £700.

Just an update. Built this yesterday.
The case is an abomination, but he’s 14.
Plenty of performance for money.

RTX 3080 and 3080ti/3090 the rumoured launches with smaller cards next year most likely. Then wait for games to catch up to actually use the extra power they will have.

Having looked at my incoming combo (3800X, 32GB, RTX 2700 Super) vs lots of games, I can't actually find a great deal that will be troubled by that which I'm likely to want to play.

A question mark over whether it will run FS2020 on Ultra, sure (although High should be comfortable and that still looks insane), my other day one purchase is Forza Horizon 4 and it looks like I might even be in 4k with that.

I've got a few months before I need to commit,so it may be that the 'older' generation of nvidia cards price drops a tad.

Any good YouTube vids or guides on actually assembling a PC?

I'm technically a certified system builder, but that was around 15 years ago and things have changed somewhat since then! I think I'll be fine, but I admit I was confused when I opened the new case which has two pre-installed fans, to find that those fans each had 3 seperate cables coming out of them! I'm guessing something to do with all the RGB shenanigans which appears to be a requirement of a modern PC.

Suggest the verge video ....

(I really dont..)

What case is it? Fans haven't changed from PWM 4/3pin, Just be careful with RGB and make sure you plug in the right voltage 5v or 12v, other than that PC building is still adult lego.

5v and 12v RGB headers have different pins/plugs so they can't be plugged into the wrong header. It's a case of buying the correct RGB fans in the first place, addressable 5v or non-addressable 12v.

Anything can be plugged into the wrong header with enough force biggrin

When I built my PC I discovered that finding a case without a window and components without LEDs all over them is harder than you'd think. Clearly I'm old but my PC is a box that sits under the desk and has no need for disco lighting biggrin

In Win A1 Plus Mini-ITX

And yes, it's going to be tucked away but finding a decent non-windowed case and trying to avoid all the RGB stuff is quite tricky!

Even my RAM has lights on it, but it was on offer so cheaper than without!

Just the motherboard to arrive (Saturday) then fingers crossed I'll get a bit of time on Flight Sim before the weekend is done.

I'd not built for ages, mounting the m.2 ssd was the biggest change still not a challenge.
