Not sure, I can't see the model in Dxdiag but maybe I'm missing it.

The SAMSUNG is my TV. I'm not sure where Nvidia has appeared from, but guessing it is the TV.
It is plugged into a TV via HDMI.

edit: there is also an AMD sound you can't see the screenshot.

i don't get any sound either through analgue or usb (or hdmi).

Apologies if I'm suggesting something obvious but from the screenshot you've posted, the bit on the right "choose where to play sound" should surely have "SAMSUNG" ticked (if you are connected to the TV via HDMI), not the Realtek Digital Audio? Selecting SAMSUNG will output sound via the TV, and then out of whatever audio equip you have connected to the TV.

As above, apologies if I have misunderstood something!

No I've probably missed something obvious.

I use a mix of TV and headphones. Before (my previous PC) sound would play through the TV unless the headphones were connected (but were analogue connectors).

I had issues with the USB headphones as well (mainly at work), mainly microphone, but not to this extent.

My work PC uses realtek. I've check my laptop (but that's win 7 so not sure it helps).

I would keep things simple first, just to see if you have a hardware issue or not.

Set the audio to play via Samsung- assuming you have your Samsung TV connected to your PC. Leave any headphones etc disconnected. Then see if you have sound coming out of your TV. If so, you can then try connecting other devices.

I would think of it like a flowchart when connecting stuff PC -----> TV -----> Sub / speakers (assuming they are connected to TV).

Headphones should obviously only show up if connected to the PC (assuming they have their own soundcard). I.e. in my setup, my default sound is my Razor soundcard for my headphones. If I unplug this, the audio defaults to my monitor via the display port cable.

Hope some of that helps!

Edited to add: "Realtek" is just the PC's basic onboard audio processor. So would make sense for that to be selected on your laptop as it has built in speakers. With the PC, there are no built-in speakers. So unless you have an analogue speaker system connected to your PC, you will not get any sound via the Realtek audio.

HDMI (for the TV) is a digital source, so it is sending the audio via the TV. But it will only send it to the TV if you select the SAMSUNG option in your sound output devices. thumbup

After Lian Li agreed to send me a new AIO as my Galahad was an early batch that was faulty its system refresh time. I have a Gen 4 vertical riser to replace the Gen 3 one, two 2TB Gen 4 NVME’s to install and the new AIO. I’ll also take the opportunity to tidy the cables and install the latest BIOS. I’ve avoided BIOS upgrades as it would likely reset my PCI-E slot to Auto or Gen 4 and I’d need to take the riser out and put the card back in normally to amend it.

CPU Cooler Arctic Freezer 7 X
Memory 16GB (2x8GB) Corsair Vengeance LPX 3200MHz DDR4
Graphics Card 12GB NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070
Power Supply Corsair CV650 - 80PLUS
System Drive 1TB Samsung 980 NVMe M.2 SSD
Operating System Microsoft Windows 11 Home

looking at the above prebuilt system on Scan for £1,279 I particularly want 12gbvideo(or more) card so gone for the RTX 4070

Is this going to be fine for 1440p 144hz gaming? I cant change anything on it otherwise Id go for 2x 16Gb Corsair. Id probably also spec a 980 Pro 1Tb SSD. But apart form that it seems pretty good.
Tried recreating the build on PC partspicker with more ram and the 980 Pro but it doesnt know what the prices of cases and PSU's are to go with it and Ive no clue so prebuilt seems safer.
Shame because I could probably save £100 on the windows 11 pre install by getting an OS elsewhere.

Would also need a 24/27" 1440 monitor I guess, probably going to be around the £300 mark?

Thanks all

Subtotal (8 items): £1,059.80

For those parts on Amazon, excluding Windows 11, slightly different case, GameMax Kamikaze Pro ARGB £68.97.

You can of course change bits as required, more ram, more storage etc whilst still less money.

I believe not having a licence on Win 10 meant you couldn't change the background and it had a little overlay in the bottom corner right, no idea on 11, however you can probably get a licence for a few £ anyway nowadays.

With 32gb ram (2x16gb) and 1tb Samsung 980 PRO storage.

Probably not quite as fast, however Crucial drives are coming in pretty good value at the moment, could be a cheap way to add (pretty fast) extra storage on the 2nd motherboard slot.

Just added all the bits on amazon. Coming in as £1,127 now. The PSU - the Corsair CV650 - 80PLUS coming in as a month until delivery. Any idea what I could replace with they might have in stock?

The 4070 is a 2 week lead but not much to be done about that I guess.

Also (n00b alert) would I need thermal paste for attaching the cooler to the CPU? [edit] Ignore that , just looked again and it say it comes with pre applied paste.

Thanks

I pressed back by accident, so rather than type it all back out i'm just looking at motherboards as the 610 is pretty restricted and matx isn't really needed.

I did make a £1250 upgrade a few days ago so once i've changed the motherboard i will post it up.

I think this power supply would be nice although it is white rather than black, with white cables, https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B097F1NGLY/ref...

I've not really used my PC for a while but 6 weeks sat at home in a neck brace after a motocross accident has seen me with time on my hands.

Absolutely not required but I just replaced my 3600 with a 5800x when I saw them on amazon for £177. Boredom is dangerous to the wallet!!!

Getting idle temps of 65 to 70 degrees with a 280mm AIO so I think I need to pull it off again tomorrow and check I've not ballsed up the paste job

You did remove the plastic film over the heatsink? Also for Ryzen a vertical line dissecting the Ryzen logo is generally considered the best rather than a pea sized blob of yore.

Yeah, no film on the heatsink, it's the same cooler I had on my old CPU.

I went with the 4 small spots in the corner and a slightly larger one in the middle, might try the strip you describe tomorrow.

Under load the temps don't actually go up that much, hitting around 82 under heavy load. It's reporting the liquid temp in the cooling loop as 35ish degrees.

The 5800x is pretty well known for running hot but surely not as hot as mine is currentlybiglaugh

Gigabyte GeForce RTX 4070 WINDFORCE OC 12GB Graphics Card - 12GB DDRX6 21Gbps, PCI-E 4.0, DisplayPort 1.4, HDMI 2.1a, NVIDIA DLSS 3, Ada Lovelace Arch, GV-N4070WF3OC-12GD

The 2nd cheapest on Amazon, looked better than the cheapest.

Samsung 980 PRO MZ-V8P1T0BW | NVMe M.2 Internal Solid State Drive, PCIe 4.0, 1 TB, Intelligent Thermal Control - PS5 Compatible

As you requested, a crucial drive could perhaps save a few ££ if needed. make sure you go down the list, Amazon sell it for 69.??, worth the extra £2 for amazons returns alone.

https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B08GS7748F/ref...

Corsair VENGEANCE LPX DDR4 RAM 32GB (2x16GB) 3200MHz CL16 Intel XMP 2.0 Computer Memory - Black (CMK32GX4M2E3200C16)

Corsair seems to make good ram at a reasonable price point.

https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B07RW6Z692/ref...

Intel Core13th Gen i5-13400F Desktop Processor (10 Core (6 P-Core + 4 E-Core), 20 MB Cache, up to 4.6 GHz, LGA1700)

I upgraded here to the 13400f as it should have the extra 4 e cores for lower power use when browsing or word processing etc but have more oomph if you are using something multicore, it has a slightly higher boost frequency than the 12 at 4.6 ghz against 4.4ghz, but then has the 4 e cores if more grunt is needed, for upto a third more multicore performance. This is £199 rather than £140 for the 12400f, however you could go for the 12 if the budget needs to come down a little. Found a listing direct from Amazon for this and about £7 cheaper too at £192.??.

https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B0BQ6BRL4T/ref...

Thermalright FS140 White V3 CPU Air Cooler Dual Towers, 4 Heat Pipes,120mm and 140mm PWM Dual Fan, 1500RPM Speed, for AMD AM4 AM5/Intel 1150/1151/1200/2011/1700(FS140 White V3)

This is meant to be a good value cooler with dual fans for a bit of redundancy should one fail , with the 140 mm fan it should move a good amount of air quietly and should just fit with a cm to spare, just ease the panel on carefully to check first time. Make sure you get the V3 as the earlier. version may not have the socket 1700 mounting hardware. £36.90.

https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B0C5TJPMMC/ref...

Corsair RM750 (2021), RM Series, 750 Watt 80 Plus Gold Fully Modular ATX Power Supply (Triple EPS12V Connectors, Low-Noise Operation, Zero RPM Fan Mode, 105°C Capacitors, Modern Standby) White

The 2021 model seems to be in the A grade on the list, https://cultists.network/140/psu-tier-list/ 750w £115, around £15 extra for the 850w comes with white cables, will look nice with a white case and cpu fan.

https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B097F1NGLY/ref...

Corsair 4000D AIRFLOW Tempered Glass Mid-Tower ATX Case - High-Airflow - Cable Management System - Spacious Interior - Two Included 120 mm Fans - Black

I put the black one of these as it £10 less than the white/silver, however it will take a few days to arrive, the white one is in stock but £90 rather than £80. Just get the airflow version so it doesn't cook everything inside.

Black
https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B08C7BGV3D/ref...

White
https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B08C74694Z/ref...

Asus PRIME H770-PLUS D4, Intel H770, 1700, ATX, 4 DDR4, HDMI, DP, 2.5G LAN, PCIe5, 3x M.2MSI PRO B760-P WIFI DDR4 Motherboard, ATX - Supports Intel 12th & 13th Gen Core Processors, LGA 1700 - DDR4 Memory Boost 5333+MHz/OC, PCIe 4.0 x16 Slots, M.2 Gen4 Slots, 2.5G LAN, Wi-Fi 6E

This is slightly more than the 610, however is more modern, should work with the 12 or 13 gen straight away, more ports, more ram slots, (only 2 on the other so not that upgradable) as well as wifi should you need it.

https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B0BJW1G7VN/ref...

£137.??

Subtotal
£1,300.78

About £50 over what you were going to spend, however with an improved motherboard, next generation chip, better cpu cooler, nicely built case, no RGB stuff, (unless you wanted it, then changes could be made), the 4070 you wanted, twice the ram and a 1tb 980 pro.

You could save £30 on storage with a slower crucial and around £50 on the 12400f instead of the 13400f if needed.

https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B0BZDZKRTK/ref...

If you'd rather not wait, this graphics card is a few, £5ish more, but in stock for Wednesday delivery so less waiting.

The case comes with 2 fans, you may want an extra one or two if the heat builds up alot in the case, however they are fairly cheap and i'd wait to see how it runs first. Amazon will probably deliver some overnight if you need them.

Personally, I wont ever shop from scan again and will never recommend anyone else to purchase anything from them either. However the poster can buy from whomever they choose.

However I used Amazon as an example of what is available for the price.

Also the Amazon returns process is easy if you want to return something, doing so with a traditional computer seller can be a nightmare. However the poster is free to check prices and order from wherever suits them the best.

Yeah, it's mounted right, touching the pipes to the radiator, I can feel one of them getting warm as it's passing liquid to the rad.

I've repasted again today and temps are still identical.

I did an hour long CPU stress test using CPU-Z and temps max out at 81 which I think is absolutely fine. It's just the idle temps which have me confused.
