If they did go back to BF2 style , I don't know how they would deal with contemporary trend of camping snipers and the old school absence of death camera.
Really riles me when people go on about "campers" - especially when referring to snipers. FFS, thats what snipers do!! Do people think in real wars a snipers just charges at the enemy shooting from the hip? Or to a lesser degree, any other kit? You need to keep your head down and have snipers on your own team to out snipe the snipers...As for the death camera, i'd like to see the BF2 camera back - seeing through your eyes at the sky as you die, and then seeing someone coming to teabag you, crazy days!

BF3 was the tits. I played days just on Oman. Skipped over BF4 for some reason.
Back in the BF2 days, camping wasn't an issue for the likes of me! My potato couldn't render grass without bursting in flames, meaning I could spot all the snipers hidden (in their eyes) in tall grass. Fools.

Did you sit at your keyboard all day waiting to type that out? That's what a proper sniper would do. Camper!
REPLY NOOB!(just to clarify, that is a satirical post to highlight something else that annoys me - namely when i kill a guy with an RPG (its a war game after all, and thats a weapon used in war) and i get him typing "RPG NOOB!" and then 5 mins later i'll kill the same guy with a claymore (another real weapon) and i get "CLAYMORE NOOB!" and then i'll kill him with a rifle and get "RFB NOOB!"....
I end up wondering - what weapon am i allowed to kill him with, that wont be countered with "[insert weapon here] NOOB!"? Or perhaps this isnt the game for him?)

Maybe you should just 360 no scope them. Then you would be l33t. I'm with you on the snipers not being campers. I played a lot sniping on tactical maps they are worth their weight in gold, spotting, taking things out, relaying information.
Since BF4 its really been infiltrated with CoD style play, I cannot remember the last time I was an engineer with a Javlin able to take out a softlam designated air or land target.

I mostly play engineer, just because i find it the most versatile kit, but javelins are only useful against jeeps or motorbikes (even then, a kill isnt guaranteed) and using anti-air rockets is a waste of time - Apaches seem to be able to reload their chaff deterrents quicker than infantry can reload the launcher, so you really need 2-3 people all working together to take them down. Its massively weighted to the Heli's favour... we tend to just leave servers where there is an apache pilot with a 32/1 KD ratio...I loved BFBC2 - as Engineer there was a dartgun that you could tag a low flying chopper with, and then fire a lock-on missile that generally meant a kill. I found that really evened things out - the engineer needed an element of skill to get the tag, and the pilot was discouraged from hovering low and just mowing down infantry.
Its been so nerffed over the years, Engineer is my top class too but play them all. Its also a shame no one appears to play the hardcore servers any more, most number of Euro servers I can find is typically 5 to 10 populated. Also really crap map rotations, I'd rent my own server but at 45 quid for 90 days no.
I keep meaning to fire the 360 up for some BF3 fun, might do that later.

Will be interested to see how BF5 pans out - hopefully they've learnt their lessons with buggy releases in the past, but I'm not going to hold my breath!
Won't pre-order, but will jump onboard early doors if the reviews are good.
it took 18 months to fix BF4, it took 12 months to fix BF3, Hardline took 9 months and lets not forget the turd that was MoH! What do you think is going to happen I'll pick this up in 2018 once its stable!Won't pre-order, but will jump onboard early doors if the reviews are good.

Completely agree with this, and the point about camping!I end up wondering - what weapon am i allowed to kill him with, that wont be countered with "[insert weapon here] NOOB!"? Or perhaps this isnt the game for him?)
As you say, some people seem to get incredibly annoyed if you aren't playing the exact way they want you to play... in an online game!
Whenever I've been accused of camping I simply thank them in the chat and inform them that I am working towards the 'tent' attachment. If you try to play even vaguely tactically (i.e. you hear footsteps running towards you so you take cover around a corner and ambush them while their backs are turned) that is deemed cowardly & unsportsmanlike.
I think some of these people would prefer Battlefield 1805, where both sides line up with ranks of riflemen and steadily advance towards each other across an open field...
As for the 'camping' snipers on hills, in BF3 and BF4 they essentially have a 10-billion-watt searchlight attached to the top of their rifle which can be seen across the entire expanse of the map, giving away their position to anyone with even the most impaired of visions. The spotting mechanic within these games makes this even easier (just in case you miss the searchlight radiating from their position), leaving a big bright orange Dorito sat atop their head which, again, is visible probably from space! All the while perched atop their hill like a white & orange Christmas tree, they are focused on perhaps 2 meters of map a mile away from their position, with zero situational awareness, leaving them venerable to whichever hilarious manner of trolling one cares to exact upon them.
And lets be honest, sniping is very much a part of warfare. It forces you to think about your surroundings, use cover (buildings/vehicles/smoke), and move quickly. And just like in real warfare, if half the enemy force decide to sit on a hill a mile away from the objective, they are not going to win the battle!
As for the BF5 announcement, I am hoping for another WW2 installment. We've had more modern shooters over the last 5-10 years than you can shake a stick at (just like we had a gazillion WW2 shooters back around 2005). I am all modern-warfared-out.
I've been playing BF3 a lot again recently and completely echo the comments about the maps being superior to BF4. It still looks good too (on PC). That in a WW2 setting would be awesome in my opinion.
The future stuff does nothing for me whatsoever, but deep down I have a feeling that's where 5 will be heading. All the futuristic stuff in the last major BF4 dlc seems like the perfect "taste of what's to come" for BF5. I hope I am wrong though.
Have to agree that BF3 was a bit worse that the marvelous BF2 and BF4 lost it's way completely. Far too CoD like and not enough of what made BF games great. I used to love playing as sniper, they became basically irrelevant in BF3 and 4. Was laughing at the the searchlight post by squirrel, totally true but this isn't even the worst part. They somehow managed to make snipers the most inaccurate gun in the game. Gone are the 1 mile plus headshots where you judged bullet to get that perfect shot, now you are out-sniped by someone with a handgun. .
I used to love playing engineer, again pretty irrelevant in 3 and 4, vehicles are king in 3 and 4 with very little that a lone person can do to stop them.
I wish they'd stop pandering to all the whiners and CoD players and go back to making it tactical and hardcore. If they do I'll be all over it like a cheap suit, if not, I'll pass.

I nearly included a point about this too but I figured that was a given! I think a lot of it is down to the way suppression works- fire a couple of rounds in the general direction of a sniper over the other side of the map, and for the next 30 seconds they will struggle to hit a building let alone make a precise headshot...
As you rightly say, it's all to easy to simply out-snipe them and you don't need a sniper rifle to do it- I find an LMG is best. M249 + holo scope and you can get pretty reliable kills at silly ranges (because the snipers are stationary & lit up like a Christmas tree), and thanks to the effects of suppression they have no hope whatsoever of returning fire.

Nerf the snipers sniping ability to the point where they are basically pointless.
Nerf the engineers anti-vehicle capability to so that they are basically pointless.
Make the close up weapons overpowered so it basically turns into a CoD close quarters grind fest rather than the large, tactical multi-class games they used to be.
I really hope to god they change things up so that it's closer to what made BF great. After the disappointment that was Star Wars:BF and the CoD series continuing on it's ever downward spiral, I haven't played a decent competitive shooter in years and I'm really itching to sink my teeth into one again.

Ok own up who looks at a server that says no x y or z and then plays with x y or z untill kicked?
I remember the PH pc clan trying all night to get into the same server in BF3 finally succeeding only to have Foobes join the server, type up "Evening C**ts". get kicked and have us start the infuriating process all over again.Gassing Station | Video Games | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
