HTC Vive...let's try this VR stuff..
Discussion
I read somewhere (and can't find the article now) based upon future profit predictions or something like that that FB are predicting a spike in 2019 linked to the Rift, leading the website to predict a new one in 2019. 3 year life cycle, I could live with that.

It's an interesting move. They're losing alot of ground to HTC so this will help - they can always rake it back in via game/software sales.
Ultimately, if you're only after seated/cockpit experience, the Rift is the way to go; it's more comfortable, slightly better optics and now much cheaper.
FWIW, I bought a Vive back during it's early launch. I'm not a great driving/flight person, and despite how awesome it is every time I pick it up, I just never actually get around to using it. It's still too much of a faff to setup, there's still the slight disorientation after use and there's still no 'proper' games. I've probably used it for 8-10 ours in the 12 months I've owned it.
I'd still recommend waiting until next-gen unless you're a driving/flight nut, or just love gadgets, even at this price.

Is that a mobile phone processor they are using? Will this be any more powerful than a phone in a holder to create a headset? Interesting.https://techcrunch.com/2017/07/13/oculus-reportedl...
No idea.
I want to see the difference mainly and at £400 I can still sell it on and not lose much or any.
I've owned a PSVR, DK1 and DK2 and ordered the CV1 but cancelled once the Vive came in first and the Vive didn't have room scale. Much more tempting with both features.
Man maths time. I wouldn't be considering it at full price and I've just cancelled a kickstarter/pre-order on a tablet thing I wasn't sure about

I've watched a few movies on the Vive. There is a bit of Screen door effect but, nothing too severe. The feeling of sitting in your own private cinema with a suitably massive screen is amazing and anything in 3D really pops (although, 3D is pretty much dead now). The main problem is comfort. It is fine to begin with but, after 90 minutes, not so much.
Drinking beer is tricky too, I had to use a straw
Lighter headsets and better resolution may see people using VR specifically for a movie experience rather than just gaming.

Had mine for a couple of months. Started off just being amazed by the experience, then tried to Elite Dangerous for a bit but the really killer app for me has to be sim racing. Even with early support Assetto Corsa is great with the Vive - loving it!

Absolutely. Whilst Elite dangerous with a HOTAS controller and voice attack controls was great, nothing feels quite like VR driving with a wheel! PCars is also worth picking up and PCars 2 is out later this year with full VR support. No way I'd go back to a flat screen now!https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZnGUoBPPMD8

By the way, it looks like you accidentally turned on the driving line
