Took the plunge and ordered at Rift that will be delivered on Thursday, using man maths sold my Sonos 5 for £250 that doesn't get used. As I did I see the HTC Vice has been reduced by £200 to £600 - was tempted but couldn't stretch to the extra £200 over the Rift.

Guys I'm thinking of going PC / VR. At the moment I have a G92 Wheel with a Play Seat WRC, which feels good, thought the seat is lacking lower lumbar support. All i play is Assetto Corsa on the Xbox, previously a Forza Player.

Any recommendations on PC specs for Rift? All its going to be used for is Assetto Corsa.

Also is there much difference from the DK2 to CV1?

What have you got? How much to spend? The minimum spec is quite "cheap" really.

Blank canvas mate, I'd like to get the most out of the rift.

Build yourself or pre built? It's all down to budget really but you'd start around £800 for a pre built of a minimum spec. I think around £2k is the sweet spot.

Have you tried VR before? If not might be worth trying first to ensure you are ok with the resolution and SDE.
High end racing sims look pretty poor on any current VR headset. This means its difficult to see things like apex and braking points in as much detail as on a monitor.

It took three weeks to come in the end. I think I ordered just at the point they ran out of stock and then my bank delayed it further because they blocked the transaction, twice! Ended up changing to paypal payment then it was sorted fairly quickly. Unfortunately I got the new box set that comes without the Xbox controller.

Really? I've heard great feed back from them from what i have read. Firstly i just need to jump over to PC due to the larger content, but i'd ideally like to pre-spec the PC ready for VR should i use it.

It's all relative. Obviously the resolution isn't as good as a monitor but, I wouldn't say that it looks poor by any stretch. Yes, there is SDE but, it is very quickly forgotten and I never had any issues with seeing the apex or braking points. I'll admit that I was never as fast in VR as on a screen but given the choice between being faster on a 2D screen and the experience of driving sims in VR, I would pick VR every single time.

Yes it looks "ok" but if you race in a league or any kind of competition its basically of zero use.
I use VR for fun, a few laps in an F1 car that type of thing.

For actual proper racing I am still on a monitor.

I've only raced AI, why is it useless for racing? the cars have mirrors and you can check your shoulder...need more info please.

Just a warning in case this happens to anyone here. I borrowed the wireless Xbox controller that came with my brothers Rift since mine didnt come with one and I wanted to try out Battlezone which requires a game pad.

I started getting frequent grey flashes in Steam VR games, but none in Oculus games. After spending ages reading and reinstalling stuff and trying different things I eventually found out that it was the Xbox controller causing tracking problems.

I didn't twig that it was the controller at first because I played an Oculus game first (which was fine) before I loaded up SteamVR and the flashes persisted even when the controller was off and the wireless receiver unplugged from USB! It wasn't until I uninstalled the Xbox controller from Device Manager that the problem went away.

I'll pick up a cheap wired gamepad and have a go with that.

I think it depends on your intended use. I race quite a bit, well used too, in some pretty serious leagues and you have to be able to see detail. Lap times are +/- tenths so the detail is what counts. Also frame rates are a bit on the low side.

For a muck about for an hour on a Sunday its great, but for a serious 10 round championship which takes hours of practice etc its not much use.

Surely that's just gfx card grunt though. I'm running a 980ti which is at the low end of vr requirements and can manage some supersampling to improve the visuals but detail is medium at best and mostly low in most games. FPS has to hit a constant 90 fps to avoid nausea as well. I'm planning on getting a 1080ti sooner rather than later.

I don't race in leagues, but I did run in a 60 minute endurance race last night and it was a fantastic experience. Very tiring though...I'll take realism over out and out pace for enjoyment every time but when I switched to vr I improved all my pb times immediately by quite a margin.

What gfx card(s) do you have?

Its a resolution issue mainly. I run a 970 but it wont improve the native resolution of the display.

Don't get me wrong I have nearly 200 hours on my vive so I like it but not in rFactor for the kind of racing I do.

I was faster, more consistent and could run closer to others in VR than on a screen. It was more real. Admittedly I'm not running in the top leagues but it was way better for me than a single screen.
I'm prepared to consider that triples could/should be better and easier to spot braking points and some were hard to spot in VR due to SDE.

I used the vive at the overclockers race series round at their hq and it was woeful, actually put me off getting a vr headset at the time. Now I have the Rift and I've found it's so sensitive to position on my head, how much I breathe through my nose, how hot my face is getting...but it's so much clearer than the Vive I tried. I have read the SDE is not as bad in Rift as Vive elsewhere too.

Upping the graphics and supersampling (pixel density) makes a huge difference...I think you need to apply some man maths and get a 1080ti in your pc red, you're not getting the best out of it...honestly. OK it's not HD but it's better than SD...

My deluxe audio strap arrived, anyone got one? I will fit it tonight and report back.

Also I noticed Star Trek bridge crew was half price at the moment, anyone tried it? Though it might be worth a punt.

Ohh! I bought Bridge Crew yesterday at full price. How annoying! This is the first time I have ever paid that much for a game, but I had the day off work yesterday and had the day free.

I have just submitted the refund request based on the price reduction. The refund cut off is 2 hours play time and I have played 2.4 hours. Hopefully they will accept that.

Regarding the game itself, I've only tried it on single player and completed 2 missions, but yes it was fun and the voice control in single player works well. I am hoping there will be a bit of a story to it like in Starfleet/Klingon Academy.
