Recently spent an obscene amount of money on a new PC and Vive headset and am really enjoying it so far.

From reading online It seems increasing the super sampling settings in SteamVR improves the visuals significantly. Has anyone had a play with this and noticed a difference?

Yes it helps a lot, but you will need a higher end card. My 970 does not like it so I don't run SS.

Thanks, I have done a bit more reading into it and have bumped it up to 2.0. I've got a 1080ti and you can certainly see an improvement.

And it's an upgrade for the Vive (and wireless on its way).

Highlights -
Better resolution 2880 x 1600 vs 2160x1200 (across both eyes)
Improved ergonomics/balance
Upgraded audio

Talk of a rebate/upgrade program.

Price is going to be the big question.
Apologies for the self quote. This is open for pre-order at £799 for just the headset.

That is way too much, if it had been around £350-400 (h/s only) I'd have considered it. Even if I had to send my v1 back.
I'll wait for the pimax I think. It's not a big enough upgrade just justify the price increase.

p.s. really enjoying Arizona Sunshine, short campaign but horde mode is fun.

£800 for just the head set is pissing in the wind.

I was considering going for a WMR one instead as the best you can get the Acer on for is £330. But even at that price point, I just can't quite bring myself to cough up for one somehow.

Wow. £500 would have been my limit but was hoping for the £400 mark.

Given I would need a new GPU too, I think I will stick with what I have for now frown

here's an interesting one - http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-42963408

this VR headset follows your eye and intensively renders only the tiny patch you're looking directly at making it 50 times sharper than at present.

Interesting technology but, I think we're a long way from seeing that come anywhere near the domestic market looking at their potential prices.

I hadn't played any VR games for ages but recently started Lone Echo. I would highly recommend it so far. It's a bit like playing a robot space mechanic in the early game but visuals are fantastic.

Skyrim VR is out on Steam. Has an option for smooth locomotion instead of the st teleporting mechanic, apparently much nicer with the Oculus because of analog sticks giving much more precision compared to the HTC's touch pads.

Haven't gone for it yet, but it's very tempting...

Linus tech tips has reviewed the vive pro and not quite a glowing report tbh. Bit shocked he prefers the gen 1 vive.

Anyone got a pro? A few of the guys I play Onward with have them, resolution sounds excellent but seems GPU sensitive with only 1080ti really being able to cut the mustard and most saying they will need to upgrade that as soon as something more powerful is out.

WMR seems to be coming down in price. Amazon have Acer, HP and Lenovo at £320.

I think the pro is too expensive for what you get. I want one and I could afford it but I don't think the relatively small resolution uplift justifies the massive price increase. And I've ordered the pimax, so I'll wait.

Anyone looked at the OR Go?
I don't really understand the target market tbh but everyone is making one so what do I know.

Pretty much this (apart from the fact that I probably can't actually afford it!)

I just don't use the Vive enough to justify it although, with better resolution, I suspect I'd use it a lot more. I've dabbled with warthunder but, need to sort the controls out. Bigscreen beta has improved massively since I first got it. There is a large screen cinema mode that has ai. bot heads dotted around the auditorium. Really makes you feel like you're at the movies biggrin Movies are very watchable, especially since I got the deluxe headset upgrade for comfort (the built in headphones are amazing!). If only that resolution was a bit better....

Hmmm, am I talking myself into it here? hehe

I am holding off. I have about 300-350 hours on my Vive so far, so a modest user I would say. I think before I spend that sort of money I would need to try one.

I ended up selling my Rift to someone for 400 euros, so just slightly under what I payed during the sales they had on some time ago, I just wasnt getting enough use out of it and a shame for it to sit doing nothing.

Added bonus (for me at least) was that the free games that came with it are still under my account, there is no way to transfer them to the new owner, which is a shame for the guy who bought it but we did try to switch them over. The guy was desperate for one that day having played his friends (He emailed me a couple hours after I listed it thinking nobody would pay that much for it... hehe), so couldn't wait for amazon etc to deliver, so I guess he was happy in the end anyway.

I will likely wait and get a next gen version at some point but will wait to see what comes out, at least I still have the games if I do get one again wink

I tried VR for first time last night. It was PS4 VR and played the Star Wars X Wing flight and I’m so sold on getting VR. I’m a PC gamer so looking at the Hive. I’m just stunned at how awesome the experience was on a PS4 so obviously Hive will be far better. Watched game play of flight simulator via Hive. So so buying this after our holiday.

Pretty sure the Hive will only change the temperature of your house and not play games in VR hehe thought it would save you a dissapointing Amazon delivery...

The Vive though is excellent.
