The Last of Us. Part 2
Discussion
No doubt people will be going apest over this. I found the first installment to be dull and overrated though. Boring gameplay, an almost relentlessly ugly setting and I even found the characters a bit wooden (though I'm told they're great characters...) so I'm not going to be running out to buy it.
I got TLOU bundled with the PS4 a couple of years ago. Tried it once or twice but couldn't get into it.
I gave it another go this weekend and played about 4 hours but it's become pretty samey. Restarting the same encounter until you manage to sneak past or kill the onrush has got pretty tedious - seems to be the same gameplay repeated with just a different setting.
Is it worth sticking with or is the whole game just more of the same? I've just got to the bit at the school with Bill trying to make a car to get us to Tommy.

I'm so excited for this I could poo.
The first was definitely one of the greatest games of all time for me.
Absolutely - this is not a game I thought of being as divisive as some of the above reviews, it's just a great game experience. These folk being negative must be extremely spoilt by other games if they can't get into TLOU! The first was definitely one of the greatest games of all time for me.
The story was great, however the actual gameplay was merely decent IMO. There was nothing wrong with it but the sneaky gameplay has been done plenty of times before, yes it was slicker than most other attempts but as others stated, got pretty samey after a while and I was bored by about 3/4 of the way through.
However hardly anyone mentions the multiplayer on this though but I think it was a real undiscovered gem and one of the most fun multiplayer experiences I've had for years and I've pretty much played all the major online shooters. A lot slower paced\tactical then your usual CoD alike run and gun affairs, you can actually use your brain, set traps etc to defeat your opponents rather than running around like a loon and some of the weapons etc where ingenious.
Having your respawn tickets run out and being the last man standing on your team leaving you facing off against 3-4 enemies on your own had my heart beating like nothing else I've played before or since. I only spent about 8 hours playing the single player but countless hours playing the multiplayer which for me is where the real replay value was. Hopefully they pull out another multiplayer surprise, can't wait to try it.

I'd forgotten about the online aspect of this game, never did try it out. Do people still play it online?
They were on the PS4 the last time I played it which was a few weeks ago. It really is different to most other traditional shooter type games. The weapons aren't all powerful and you have limited ammo so you can't just run around like a loon, taking shots at everything in sight. It really is about using the old grey matter, picking your shots and being sneakier than your opponents so you can outflank them or set traps and lure them in, the nail bomb is a particular favourite of mine. You really need to do yourself a favour and experience the literal heart pounding excitement of trying to take on 2-3 enemy at once, sneaking around trying to guess where the enemy is while trying not to get killed. If you get really good at the game it's possible to beat those odds using your brain, your tool-bag and some good shooting and when you do, you'll feel like an absolute hero.
E3 2018 trailer and gameplay video: clicky
Pretty hyped about this now; I always take E3 promo vids with a pinch of salt but the action in there looks pretty messy and brutal. I remember the first time I played Last of Us how surprised I was at how brutal some of the takedowns could be - this gave me the same kinda chills! I was a big fan of the original (completing Grounded mode is probably the toughest thing I've done in a video game) and can't wait to get into this.
