What's my hair got to do with anything?

Well, the main cast consists of:

- a lesbian
- a Jewish bisexual woman
- her ex, an Asian man who is totally chilled about her raising his baby with another woman
- an insanely muscled, possibly trans woman
- a trans child
- a straight white man who gets killed almost straight away

Not exactly Duke Nukem when it comes to social views
And you have a problem with this because....?
Well it's a tad "they just had too" isn't it.

Criticlly aclaimed can be a good thing, however, once if the game is taking a lead on a 'cause' then leftie critics could have deliberately give it top marks for the leftie angle. So you have to be more suspicious.
That's the particular niche of critically acclaimed I meant. 10/10 from so many sources? Sure.

I’m a few hours in now and enjoying it. Not exactly loving it yet, though, but I seem to remember the original game took a while to hook me in. I’ve also just started this off the back of Zelda BOTW, which in my opinion is one of the greatest games ever produced (critically acclaimed AND great in reality!). It’s going to have to be good to get near that sort of level.

Just started playing this, probably 3 or so hours in. I’ve avoided spoilers, and won’t be giving any here (or returning to the thread until I’ve finished the game! smile).

So far - it’s the last of us. Feels very similar to the first game, and I’m enjoying it. It’s certainly a beautiful looking game on my regular PS4. I’m an old fart, and am playing it on ultra-easy for the story rather than for a challenge, but it’s good so far. Has got me emotionally engaged in the same way the first one did, and I’m certainly out for revenge. biggrin

Fully expecting to take that vengeance out on a number of people, and am looking forward to it.

I have no problem with any characters sex, sexuality, or appearance in the game (so far!), and I’d be surprised if this studio screws it up.

Flash forward a month where I come back and say they totally dropped the ball. biggrin

Fair few hours in and still enjoying it,kind of.
Starting to find it a little bit repetitive now,as said earlier there’s only so many times you can fire up a generator and clearing buildings is getting a bit samey.
Also some of the cutscenes are stupid long,I know it’s trying to drag you into the story but the one I sat through earlier went on forever.
Having said all that there have been more moments of, “f*ck,that was cool”,than bad. smile

I could add more but don’t want to give anything away for folks that haven’t started it yet.

Thanks to the last two posters for the reviews. Really undecided on this - all the gameplay footage just looks quite..... unpleasant? Dark, grimy, violent, depressing. It just looks to be a bit of an ordeal.

I’m only on the 3rd chapter and I’ve cried, smiled and shouted out ‘oh my god’ due to how good various parts are!
It’s defo not all doom and gloom, there are some real heart warming moments!

That is entirely the point biglaugh

I'm playing on the hardest difficulty. I spend my entire time with no health and no bullets. How can i find a box of ammo that has a single bullet in it?! Or kill someone with a gun and get no ammo. Can make encounters interesting when the checkpoint is at a point where i have no ammo or health and there is eight or nine folk to kill. Spend a lot of time trying to sneak past or simply sprinting past. Good game though.

I think I saw an option to skip a cut scene when I paused one earlier, so you might have a solution there. Unfortunately, for me the point of this is the story, so skipping the scenes would be a little self defeating. biggrin

I can see this could well become somewhat repetitive though, as you mention - I’ve made it to Seattle now, and am finding the scavenge, rinse and repeat bit a little uninspiring, but I’m hoping the story will propel me through. In this respect you could compare it to Far Cry, where there are a number of encampments to clear, radio towers to capture, etc. Same mechanic, but differing approaches to mix things up...

Indeed - the setting is very much post-apocalypse, and while it’s avoiding the Fallout style everything-is-brown-or-grey (it’s a very pretty game), the world isn’t a fun one. It’s partly a survival horror sort of deal.

Few more hours in....still a great game, will certainly finish it. Highlight so far was the Wyoming museum "level" and the space capsule cut scene....I think it emphasised the character relationships that are missing in Part 2.

Sounds like a pain in the arse! But then it's been a while since I was the kind of gamer who did the hardest difficulty level, for better or worse.

I'm rather crap at stealth games full stop so had to play the original on easy. I do want to play this but QQ, can you pause cut-scenes? Many games' scenes are so long now and almost invariably come at a time when you want to pause for real-life. Dinner, cats demanding attention, better half wanting to chat etc.

I'll still play it if not but man I wish they'd make that more of an option these days

You can pause them by pressing the options button - pretty sure I’ve done just that.

I managed to avoid the whole spoiler hooha despite being eager for this to come out. Played around 6 hours last night (have just managed to escape from the School, for those who know) and I'm not disappointed. The graphics look amazing on PS4 Pro with a 4k TV, game play and mechanics aren't changed much which is a good thing IMO, and the atmosphere, music, sound design and mo-cap acting is outstanding. That said it doesn't feel like a revolution from the original, more evolution but I'm good with that, I'm happy to be back in that world with those characters.

Having now looked at what the whole spoiler thing was about I think context is everything. As I'm only 6 hours in I've only played as Abby twice but I can't imagine they'll make you play as her again after what she did at the lodge, as you have zero investment in her safety/story arc. But we'll see
Well this hasn't aged well. Just got to the bit that everyone is up in arms about (I think). Have to agree it seems to disrupt the pace of the game as everything was building nicely and now it looks like you gotta play for a good few hours as Abby during a flashback until you can get back to the present day. Not sure how I feel about it as I have zero investment in her, but the game to this point has been excellent IMO so I'll persevere.
