Price seems reasonable to me, bearing in mind X1 and PS4 launched at £400+. It's the lack of games that's the problem. Loads of partisan anime tosh and the western games I can see are already out on the competition!

The N64 was awesome yes
Absolutely.

I am quite sure Zelda, Pilotwings and multiplayer Goldeneye and Mario Kart would still play well today despite being 20 years old.

I wonder what a teenager today would make of them..,

Rose tinted I'm afraid, I've got an Xbox that plays CoinOps and fired up N64 Goldeneye, it has not stood the test of time very well at all and I like retro games.

I agree with regards to Goldeneye, it doesn't play well today. Amoung other issues, a key problem IMO is that it only had one control stick so you could only aim on the x-axis unless you held down the right shoulder button. I'd compltely forgotten about that and when i played it more recently, it really dated the game. That, along with the hilarious polygon graphics and AI.

Micro Machines 64 Turbo was a favorite of mine. I used to get a bunch of mates round my house and we'd play 8-player games using the pad share function. I see no reason why that would be anything other than completely brilliant today smile

Might just be me but i couldnt easily find what would be in the box!
Would i need to pay exta for the dock? Is the middle part of the controller included, not the screen just the plastic bit for when the screen is in the dock?

Im sure if i wanted to enough i couldve found out these answers, but with the lack of games i am interested in available on launch ive completely gone from definite pre order to probably not bother at all in the space of a day. Which is a shame as i am likely one of their key demographics as travel a lot and could start the game in england, play it on a plane, and plug into a second dock in another country.

This is what you get:

So that's the console screen, one set of Joy-cons, one base unit, the pad holder to stick the joycons into, two straps, an AC unit and the HDMI cable.

Already got my pre-order in, like the look of the games that have been shown, should be interesting.

Thanks evil steve.

I guess i will keep my eye out for them after release as dont see the point in putting a pre order in so late as i think all have sold their initial allotment.

Just left the UK launch event at the Hammersmith apollo

I quite like it nice neat and compact piece of kit.

I think it will do well.
Did you get to have a go on it? Or were you watching presentations etc?
It was a hands on event so yes we got a go, there was about 20 different set ups, 4 hour session if you wanted, very refreshing as there wasn't a presentation!

In my post 4am haze after watching the presentation I decided to pre-order it. Now that I have sobered up I'm considering cancelling it.
Firstly, I think it's too expensive, especially compared to the competition. You could argue it is different because it is portable, but that's only for 2.5 hours before the battery is flat. Add another £50 for a game and it looks even worse.
Secondly, the launch lineup appears to be two games. Whilst one of those is Zelda, I don't think it's good enough considering Nintendo stopped working on the WiiU to prepare.

I think it would be prudent to wait a few months for the price to reduced and for some bundles (and games!) to be released.

Well in my time I've had a NES, a SNES, a Super Famicon, an N64 and a Gameboy but I just don't see the appeal of this.

I'll be sticking with my PS4 and PC I think. As someone else above already said, they need to do what Sega do now and just make multi platform games instead.

That Mario game looks great. I think around Christmas time, when that game is out, a purchase could be on the cards together with Mariokart and Zelda. Unless the general consensus by then is that the system is a bit st.

My fears in one place but expectations where never that high as this company died along with the N64

He missed out the bit where a lot of people only bought the PS1 because you could get it chipped and have loads of cheap pirated games.

Is it? Whilst I agree with the comments around the day (it was good) and the machine as a concept is well executed and fun to play and use (remember when it used to be fun?) Well apart from them keeping us all outside for 40 minutes in the snow and wind underneath the Hammersmith fly over.

That's just one persons view on the day, mine and others views on the same day were different, Xbox/Sony and Nintendo often get things wrong but I think this was a good start but of course a start is all it is.

I was referring to the review rather than Hartleyhare's comment. If they'd have launched with a strong line up of games, they'd have my money already. As it is, I'll review in a few months.

Nintendo is mainly about kids isn't it? I mean we all love playing the games but the core market is the under 12s.

When a kid goes out of the house into the car for the long car journey to his Grans what is he going to take? his tablet or his Switch?

I would say it will still be his tablet - its simply more versatile

They should have produced the machine without any gimmicks at all and made it as cheap as possible. People would buy the console to play Zelda/Mario if it was an impulse buy for the parents - 129 pounds

It looks great, for me if it had been 250 - 300 with Zelda I'd be more excited.

I don't get those who would of bought it straight away if only it had come out with more games..... Nintendo are changing but not that radically.... Anyway how do you need more than a few games at the start anyway?

My concern would be the longevity of developer's producing more games over the next 2 - 3 years as the Wii U has bombed and I wouldn't want to think that the console was just now a collection for 5 main branded games.
