Im one of the ones saying i would buy it if it had more games. What i should of said is more games I'm interested ine. If it released with mario, mariokart, pilotwings, super bomberman, mario party. Any two of them and i would of bought it, now im just thinking i may as well wait for it to come bundled with one of the games which it will do in a few months time and then it would be closer to the release date of the other titles im interested in.

Pre-ordered mine and I'm really looking forward to it. The last Nintendo I bought was back in 1990 when the SNES launched. This should, if they're smart, have backwards compatibility for their entire catalogue, especially the Wii so it's actually a very good investment. I love the controller idea, no bothered about taking it away with me (yet) and think it'll be a great thing for my 3 year old to get into - and tire herself out.

Looks very good and the price is spot on for a launch.

I didn't buy any games as I'm expecting to get mine digitally anyway although that will mean at least 128GB for £50.

Ordered. Hopefully it can plug in a usb port in a plane so I can play for the full flight. Mario looks ace and I only play a few games a year so suits me fine.

Super Mario, Luigi, Yoshi, Donkey Kong, Metroid, Castlevania, Starfox, F-zero, Mega Man, Kid Icarus, Kirby, Pokemon, Pikmin, Bayonetta, Final Fantasy, Smash Bros, Mario Kart, Perfect Dark remake, Plus a multitude of highly rated RPG's that used to flood Nintendo consoles...

WHERE ARE YOU ALL????!

-Yay Zelda smile

It's the games that maketh the console, I can't believe Nintendo haven't got another exclusive from their big franchises lined up for launch.

I have no answer for that as I agree, but a blanket statement like the one given isn't fair when Zelda already looks like a contender for GOTY.

Skyrim is what, 4 years old?! Mariokart is a tweaked Wii U port isn't it? Yes, Mario Odyssey looks the best of the bunch for me, however it remains a platformer with little depth and replayability. We could argue those points I'm sure but It's also not out until the end of the year. It's a horrible line up for a console out in 2 months.

Actually, Skyrim is 6 years old this year and by all accounts the port is graphically inferior to the remastered Special Edition version that has been released for the PS4 / XBone.

I can see Nintendo as a console maker not being around for much longer. As a NES / SNES / N64 / DS / Wii and Wii U owner, I find this quite sad but the world has moved on. 25 years ago, it would be the pub then back home with mates for a Mario Kart / Street Fighter tournament - they dropped the ball massively with the Wii U and I can't see what's the big deal with this.

The success or failure of any console is purely down to its games. This is where the PlayStation and Xbox have excelled - obviously not every game has been a 10/10 but there have been plenty that have and these are the games that get talked about. GTA / Uncharted / Call of Duty / Red Dead / Skyrim / Minecraft / etc. - all massive games and none available (or until very, very late) on the Nintendo.

My son is 9 and I mentioned the Switch to him. He'd rather have an Xbox as his next console like his mates have. He has a Wii U knows just 1 other person with one.

It doesn't have a disc drive so backwards compatibility with Wii and Wii U games is a no go I think, unless you mean downloads of older games, which I don't class as backwards compatible.

Nintendo and smart don't go together, they've done some incredibly dumb moves as of late.

He missed out the bit where a lot of people only bought the PS1 because you could get it chipped and have loads of cheap pirated games.
I think this was (sadly) a very important reason. The PS1 was out at the same time as cd burners became affordable and storage was just about affordable to hold a few games ready for burning. That and the chip cost around 10 pounds and was incredibly easy to fit.

To be fair, Nintendo had a chance with the Wii. It was a good concept and we thoroughly enjoyed playing with it as a family but it was underpowered when compared with the competition and was never properly exploited or committed to by the 3rd party games companies as it was far too heavily marketed as the "alternative" console. Had it been as capable as a PS3 or XBox AND had the funky controllers and things, it would have been a much bigger hit. The Wii U was simply terribly marketed again and woefully underpowered - and too late as the gaming companies had given up on Nintendo by then.

The Switch looks interesting but it's far too handicapped by the portability aspect I think.

I'll stick to my PS4 (Pro) 4k gaming rig for now and the Mac for WoW/Steam.

The Wii was mostly bought as a second console, its massive success because of the exclusives and the (then) unique gaming experience with the new controllers, who would buy an inferior version of BF or FIFA or similar to play on Nintendo hardware when they already own a Playstation or XBox?

Nintendo has the strongest set of permanently owned exclusives, they aren't everybody's cup of tea but they still have five of the top ten best selling games of all time locked to their hardware. The latest Pokemon game sold 10 million copies so far, highest selling game on the XBox One sold 5 million and for the PS4 it is 4.8 million, Nintendo are hardly struggling.

I like the idea, I built a Windows 10 laptop for a bit so I could mirror my Xbox to my laptop while we as a family watched TV, so this does the same but even more portable. The battery life is disappointing for graphically intense games but nothing that can't be worked around with a portable USB charger.

I would be highly surprised if by Christmas there wasn't bundles including games for £280 or less, this initial high price is just fleecing the early adopters.

Unfortunately. I think the switch smells of fail.

Trying to bridge the gap between mobile and console gives you something that isn't great at both. Isn't the screen relatively low resolution?

FWIW, I agree with the sentiment that Nintendo should concentrate on games rather than platforms, but Nintendo are crazy.

Also I think they've only failed to make profit in a year ONCE, since Nintendo started. They won't want to throw the baby out with the bath water smile.

All they need is a machine that has emulation for the old classics whilst being powerful enough for some modern titles. If the Switch can do Bomberman, Mario, Mario Kart, F-Zero, Pilot Wings, Zelda, Donkey Kong Country, Streetfighter then I'd buy one for the kids in a heartbeat. When it comes to kid-friendly games, on pure gameplay nothing comes close to Nintendo IMO.

Not sure about the Wii but the Wii U does this. You download past games from the Nintendo Shop.

Really looking forward to this, want a decent mobile gaming device but there's very little out there. I did have an Nvidia Sheild K1 which I played through Half Life 2, Portal and Borderlands on, as well as some streaming service games. Then heard Nvidia had dropped the replacement with rumours on Nintendo bringing out something and here it is.

Still seems a lot of money though, was hoping for 250 at most with a bundled game. £280 with no game seems steep to me. Not sure whether I'm going to stump up that much on launch or wait for a bundle offer a few weeks down the line.
