Agree... the lego games are a lot of fun too.
The only downer about the lego games is I think they are all ports - they work just fine, it's just the display doesn't adapt well in portable mode - the screen UI is downscaled so for example text becomes too small to read vs a properly optimized switch game like Animal Crossing where the text and UI elements scale "up" in portable mode so text remains legible.

Not sure if it's been mentioned here or not but Rocket League is now free to play and doesn't need Switch Online to play - Another simple one for the kids to pick up as a break from Fortnite.
I'm liking Animal Crossing far more than I should, perfect game for relaxing to for an hour or so while listening to some music. Getting too heavily invested in the turnip stock market.

What I love about the Switch though, and Nintendo's games in general , is that they're just great to switch on and unwind with.. I find that a lot of games I play on PC are more 'intense' for lack of a better word, which is fun but sometimes after being sat at my desk all day for work, can feel a bit exhausting to then sit at for another few hours to play games on.
That's why we love ours - a lot of the games are just so easy to sit down and play for an hour or two to unwind and don't normally lead to any stress. My wife has just discovered the cheap games on the eShop now so I can see a barrage of new games taking up space - she's a fan of Sonic at the moment and I'm going older school with Flashback!

It is a lot harder than I remember it! Ghouls and goblins was always absolutely bd hard.
We got a switch for Christmas mainly for my 6 year old daughter although we will all play it. Must say I'm quite impressed so far, that's coming from a long term ps4 gsner, but...... What a pigs ear nintendo have made if the online chat!
Why couldn't they have gone the proven route of xbox/ playstation and just plug a headset on rather then using a separate app on another device. Crazy!

Nintendo are so far behind on the online side of things, that's their one big failing. Why couldn't they have gone the proven route of xbox/ playstation and just plug a headset on rather then using a separate app on another device. Crazy!

thinking of picking up Mario 3d world with bowsers fury, fancy immortal fenx or whatever its called, seen some really good reviews on YouTube about it being Zelda crossed with gods of war....
I got my 7 year old Daughter a Switch for Christmas and she loves it. I got her Mario Kart and Animal Crossing to go with it. She is constantly playing Mario Kart and is actually pretty good at it considering she's never played a console of any type before this. However, she doesn't enjoy Animal Crossing. I didn't realise it's all reading based and unfortunately she has great difficulty with reading and writing so unless I'm there to narrate what's happening then she can't play it.
She's asking me about other games now so if anyone has any suggestions on decent games for a 7 year old that don't involve reading and that a beginner will enjoy then let me know.

Yeah the trouble with many games in that regard is they have a lot of text but don't have proper voice recording to accompany it, so like you say, if someone struggles with reading then it can make the game hard to follow.
I'm sure there are some good options that people can recommend though, Mario Kart is great in that regard as it really is a 'pick up and play' game

Mario Odyssey - superb game with very little text, my son loves it and has probably put 100+ hours into it. He tends to flick between this and Mario Kart. The only thing I'd say about Odyssey is you'll probably need to play it first to unlock all the kingdoms for your Daughter, as it can get a bit tough especially later on.The only negative I have with the Switch is that western third-party developers just aren't making games for it. I really don't get how Nintendo can have a system with an install base of now 80m and EA still continue to publish 'Legacy' Fifa versions, or just ignore it entirely as with the recently announced Mass Effect remasters. For me as someone who prefers Japanese games this isn't a major issue, especially as the Switch as no shortage of quality JRPG's.

I googled this a little while ago, and came across Reddit threads. The Lego games are recommended, Yoshi's crafted world as well. Minecraft also of-course. Kirby too. Kirby Star Allies and so on.She's asking me about other games now so if anyone has any suggestions on decent games for a 7 year old that don't involve reading and that a beginner will enjoy then let me know.
Loads of threads on reddit with suggestions. Also look through the games in the online Switch store that have demo's and see which may be suitable. Then let her try them.
Got my switch last Christmas. I say mine, it stopped being mine at lockdown and my 7yr old plays it most days. Lego City undercover is awesome and really got us through 2 weeks isolating. Basically GTA for children.
Mario Odyssey then blew me away. Both of us loved it, and although she needed help with the odd bits she managed most of it herself. She still revisits it now, and has since gained all kinds of Mario stuff. I think it's spoilt her, and other more linear games aren't as appealing now.
Sadly Minecraft has now taken all her attention. Not that I don't see the appeal, but we've got lots of other things to play.
Mario kart home circuit is a proper laugh, although it is pretty niche, and the video link isn't quite as seamless and smooth as I'd hoped. Chasing the dog round the house is more entertaining than the racing.

That's the problem with first party Nintendo titles, they set an absurdly high bar that few other games can reach. My 5 year old played through most of Mario Odyssey, it was a joy to watch, such an inventive game. We've also really enjoyed Yoshi's Crafted World and Luigi's Mansion 3, both great co-op games.
We are getting Mario 3D World in a few weeks, it's supposed to be one of the best Mario games, really looking forward to playing it with him.

I bought Super Mario Maker for my son, as he wanted to play it with his mates. As he is only 8 he just plays around with other peoples stages and creates some very basic stuff and gets bored quickly, which compared to the potential scale of Oddessy (which I wish I'd bought now) seems a bit of a waste. Does anyone know how to get the best out of this game?My 5 year old played through most of Mario Odyssey, it was a joy to watch, such an inventive game.
