We went for the switch lite, bought more for my son but got a good deal on it. Didn't have any plans for online/multi or TV play either. It's a great bit of kit and really nostalgic playing some of the old SNES games.

Just bought Mario Vs Donkey Kong which is good, although the difficulty ramps up really quickly which is frustrating for my son.

Mario Kart is also brilliant.

Tempted to get Tony Hawks next for myself

I bought it when I got my Switch a couple of weeks ago, along with Mario Kart 8.

Red Dead Redemption was one of my favourite games on the X-Box, it is just as good on the Switch, plus it is now portable.

What Micro SD cards are people using, I've seen some "game specific" ones which are more expensive and wondered if needed/ worth it?

Thanks

Will certainly be grabbing myself a copy of this; didn't play it first time round.

I use the Nintendo-licensed cards by SanDisk - a bit frivolous, but they're often on sale so not much more than a standard card and they look nicer biggrin

Look at the specs of those cards, and just buy any equivalent - I've always used SanDisk cards for GoPros, drones, cameras, etc. and never had issues with them.

Whichever Sandisk ultra is most cost effective on Amazon, usually

Last time I needed one in a hurry ("Dad I can't download my new game") Argos had the 128GB Nintendo one for £15

You want to avoid having to swap them continuously, the Switch doesn't really want you to do that

Should any headset / mic work with the switch or does it have to be something specific?

I've got one that I use with the Xbox - doesn't work

and i've tried my work ones - Poly Black wire C5220 USB-C - both plugged into the USB C and the Audio jack - I can hear through them but the mic doesn't seem to work.

What am I missing?

how many pins are on the 3.5mm end of that audio jack? if it's only two that could be the reason why?

I was always under the impression a mic is of no use with the
Switch. Unlike Sony and MS/ Xbox where u can chat through the headset when playing online, Nintendo don't do this and you have to download an app and use tablet / mobile when playing.

Due to this faff, we rarely use it, I'd guess the last time was over a year ago so maybe Nintendo has changed this?

Pins on the end of the audio jack?? is that what the ridges are?! Learn something new every day! I'll check once at home, however if the mic works on the xbox shouldn't it work on the switch too?

And ref the question on if switch allows mic chat - i don't actually know, i thought so as it was an option on Fortnite(!) and I can hear people talking?

Done a bit of digging. Chat should work in Fortnite without using the stupid Nintendo voice chat app, but you need to go into game settings to allow it.

I've got a feeling that the problem is actually because my little boy is under 13. I'm not sure it can be activated at all.

it can be - did you check the settings here?

and here

not sure if you need to push to talk or you can leave it as "hot mic" on the Switch
