The Redmaw looked a lot bigger than a regular Thunderjaw - and yeah it's in one of the Hunters Lodge missions

I have finished the main Story and I don't remember picking up special Armour. The only Armour I wear is what is brought from Vendors. Hmm maybe I got the Armour and didn't realize. Ill put the game on later have a look.

It isn't a part of the story and, the game can be completed without it. It is a side quest that becomes activated only if you revisit the bunker that you fell down as a child in the beginning of the story In there, you find a puzzle which requires the power cells to complete and acquire the armour. It is entirely optional same as the other side quests.

However, as someone who finally acquired the armour yesterday, I can confirm that it is well worth the effort and completely overpowered thumbup

Turns out I had 4 of the power cells and had to revisit a site to obtain the 5th. I now have it so time to test it out smash

have played over 20 hours now, that's unheard of for me! I love it, although I do have it on easy as I am not too good with the controls when it comes to fighting, but I seem to have sussed them.

That huge 'Brontosaurus' mech looked very impressive!

Oooh now that is impressive armor. You are right in the fact its over powered im yet to use any health since wearing it. If I had 2 top tips about this game to make it easier it would be;

1. Complete all Cauldrons as early as possible to enable you to overide machines. (I found a Thunderjaw site earlier and it was a pleasure to overide 1 and let it fight the other).

2. Get the special armor. Overpowered in an understatement.

I'm now trophy hunting to try and get platinum as I like this game that much. Only at 60% currently so still lots to do.

The answer may be in this thread, but I stopped reading most of it because this game pisses me off.

Given the only thing I can reliably kill is Aloy, I think I need the fancy armour thing, and all the cauldrons. So how do I find them?

Completed the main story yesterday as a Level 48 with the Stormweave armour equipped. Found it quite easy with that.

Most enjoyable non multiplayer game I've played for a long time though. The storyline was interesting and as has been mentioned the graphics are mind blowing.

What is your approach to killing (or attempting to kill) the machines? Some of them are fearsome opponents but, a good many should be pretty simple to take down. A stealthy approach can often serve you well to take out the watchers with silent strikes and I found that fire arrows were extremely useful during the early part of the game. I would also recommend trying different weapons/tactics. One of my favourite approaches for example is to use the ropecaster to tie down (assuming they're larger machines), freeze them using my sling and then bombard them with arrows/fire bombs etc.

To find the cauldrons, you need to buy the map upgrade from one of the vendors (I forget what it is called) and then they, along with all the metal flowers, vantage points etc. will be marked on your map. Given your reasons for wanting to find them, I do wonder whether or not you'll enjoy them when you get there tongue out

A quick google of 'how to get the shadow weave armour' will give you the info you need but, be warned, it isn't available until almost the end of the story.

For me the game changed when I got the Tear Arrows - was struggling until that point, but once I could remove the armour and weapons of the monsters with those arrows it became so much easier, and more fun - I really got into the game after that

Agreed, tear blast arrows make a big difference. Doofus, have you reached Meridian yet? If so, you should be able to buy the Shadow Sharpshooter bow which has the tear blast arrows (the purple ones). A couple of well placed shots to start the fight and the machines will be more susceptible to damage.

Thank you. My approach is to hit the small ones and shoot the fk out of the big ones. Tripcasters seem to be bloody useless.

I don't think I understand the vulnerabilities stuff, because nothing seems to have any greater effect on a robot than anything else.

If something shows up in yellow when you R2 to target a robot, then that either means you can knock it off (with the right weapon), or you can blow it up (with the right weapon) or bugger all, and I don't know the difference.

If you shoot something, and a flame or a bolt of lightning or something shows up in a circle above it, that's supposed to mean it's weakened or something. Seems to make fk all difference though.

I find it incredibly tiresome to empty my entire stock of arrows (normal, fire, ice, and some other thing) into every robot and still not kill it. I am sure that I need to learn more about how to fight what with what but - and this may be the point - I'm not sure I can be arsed.

I don't like arcade-style quick fix games, but on tbe other hand, I suspect I'm getting too old for these really immersive ones. I really enjoyed this for the first few hours, but then it suddenly became too hard, and I've lost heart.

I enjoy spending hours playing a decent game. I just don't enjoy spending hours learning to play a decent game.

I assume you've switched the difficulty to easy? If not, that would be the best place to start which would hopefully make things more enjoyable for you.

One of the things I found extremely useful is repeatedly scanning an enemy during a fight (using focus with R3) to highlight theiry weakspots, it makes them far easier to hit. Regardless of whether you're using the most effective element/arrow, hitting the weakspots will always ldo greater damage. I would also recommend upgrading your primary hunter bow to the shadow (purple) version. That will give you the hardpoint arrows which are a significant damage upgrade over the standard arrows without having to alter your playstyle.

As mentioned before, the shadow sharpshooter bow is also a must for the tear blast arrows, they will make things much, much easier to kill. Both are definitely available once you get to Meridian.

You also need to get used to crafting more ammunition during the fight so stocking up on resources is essential. I am forever running out of arrows and having to make more on the fly. Also, don't forget you can change your loadout mid fight if you think different weapons might be more effective.

I found the doubleshot and tripleshot skill upgrades are also a massive help, although it took me a while to remember to notch the 2nd and 3rd arrows in the heat of battle. You can literally triple your damage with effectively the same single shot (although you have to craft more arrows this way). Also make sure you've upgraded the concentration skill and never forget to use concentration (R3) to assist your aiming in a fight.

Trip wires can be effective in large open areas but, you ahve to either be very quick to deploy them or create enough space between you and your foe. Always lay a few rather than just one. Overall though, I found the sling and the war bow to be more effective weapons.

Is there a particular machine type you're struggling with?

Honestly, I don't exploit the weaknesses anywhere near as much as I should (ie. firing freeze arrows at freeze cannisters to blow them up) but, that just means the fights will last a little longer.

Hope this helps a bit.

Took me ages to take down this underground quarry mech last night, when doing a little side quest. It lasted so long I had to pause the game and have a toilet break! It used almost all of my ammo, too, I think I may be doing something wrong...

Sounds like you found a cauldron. Do you remember which machine it was? If it was the Zeta cauldron, it would have been a thunderjaw! Very tough opponent

Probably rockbreakers, the ones that burrow underground. Yeah, the first time I encountered those it took ages to beat them!

That's it, rockbreakers! First time I have encountered one. I thought I was going to run out of all of my ammo!

What I find most fun are the quests where you have to take out a group of enemies, I can use stealth pick them off one by one, which is great for me as I am terrible when in a melee (still being more used to using a mouse on PC)

That cauldron with the Thunderjaw took me ages - it killed me so many times, that was the hardest part of the game for me (so far anyway, still got to finish it)
