Much like others, I got this with my PS4 Pro and only installed it last week. Finished it last night! What a brilliant game, the pacing is perfect in how they scale your abilities and resources with the robots you meet. Loved how I lived in mortal fear of Watchers and Sawtoothes early on, but felt confident about wading into a 5-Stalker zone later one. I followed all the errands and sides and did all the collectibles quite early on, so I was level 50 and fully skilled/tooled up well before the conclusion of the main story arc. Just got to find the 23 dummies to get Platinum, then New Game+ on Very Hard I think.

Thought provoking storyline loved how the programmers and management contrived to f**k up the reboot!, good pacing, generous save points, excellent graphics. As a game I think it's nearly perfect.

For the 23 training dummies, they are all situated in the Nora part of the map; simply visit each of the established settlements and make sure you knock over everything. Everywhere has 2 dummies apart from a) Aloy & Rost's home (7) and b) the first Bandit Camp you liberated (or should have) - it has just 1 dummy. I spent ages traipsing through the whole map looking for them before I realised!

Just finished NG+ on Ultra Hard the other day - it was tough going! Robots are a lot stronger (i.e. a Watcher requires at least 3 hunter arrows + a heavily modified (for damage) Hunter bow; or 2x Sharphot arrows with a decent damage modification installed. Also the robot's health no longer shows above them, so you just have to pummel them until they go down. It was tremendous fun though; I struggled the first week I played it, but being able to NG+ makes the whole thing much more enjoyable to play second time around.

I thought this game was incredible when I first played it, but once you get used to the amazing scenery it is all pretty simplistic juvenile gaming. Sad to say, I found it tedious after a while.

You don’t play suspended from the ceiling? You’re missing out.

Have to admit, playing it through again, seems a lot better than the first time. I managed to skip a whole bunch of stuff first time and got to the end long before I should have done.

Anyone got the DLC today? Wondering if it’s worth buying (and having to re-learn how to play it again)

It's downloaded but I've not played it yet. Saw a review earlier and it looks very good; general consensus is there is a good 20hrs of gameplay for the new map, + additional updates (skill trees and graphical tweaks) work across the whole game, not just the new map. Looking forward to playing it.

The new beasts are seriously tough. I'm 2 hrs in and loving the frozen wilds. Could do with some tougher arrows.

I could not get the hang of all the freeze and fire weapons modifications etc. Getting the super armour was about the only thing that stopped me getting killed a million times in combat.

I haven’t got the DLC yet, I seem to get tendonitis in my left forearm when playing Horizon on PS4, something about pressing and pushing the left stick so much.......

I have a similar thing with the PS4 controller, have tried a couple of these which have helped and allow me to adjust slightly. Still much prefer my PC or the Xbox style controller I have to say

They might work, though changing the angle I hold the controller at helped a bit, tilting it toward myself.

The problem started while fighting the big crab-like machine beast, a half hour of furious pressing and pushing of that left lever. My left forearm was really throbbing by the time the beastie succumbed to me fury.

Ended up playing for about an hour or so last night to see what it's like; really does look beautiful. New character animations for Aloy such as leaving footprints/troughs through the thick snow, snow angel option in camera mode and few other things. Graphics seem to be tweaked nicely; the sky above you as you climb up to where the new map is was stunning to look at.

I agree with the beasts being tougher; I started out loading my original game which I 100%'d but soon changed to my new game + save which has my much more powerful weapons and outfits and that helped out a lot. Can't wait to get into it more, only got as far as the first communal meeting area where you speak with the Osaram vendor.

Put in several hours yesterday and having not played for the game for several months did mean it took an hour to so to relearn all the controls and recall which weapons did what. Still, that minor hiccup out of the way, the DLC has been excellent thus far.

Quite ironically, the DLC launched on the same day as the Xbox One X, which I've spent a good bit of time playing this week, and Horizon - even if it is in PR speak "dynamic 4K" rather than the native 4K select One X titles display - can still hold its own and then some. It's still a gorgeous game packed full of incidental details ,the new machine types are tough as nails and the story, whilst having potentially lesser stakes than during the main campaign, is just as compulsive. Here's hoping it can maintain this pace for the next few hours.

Yes, it's essentially just more of the same but why tamper with perfection?

Sounds good - think I'll get hold of the DLC.

One thing that the original game may not have made very obvious is that if you New Game+ on a higher difficulty level then more powerful Adept versions of weapons and armour become available. With suitable mods they can make you almost invulnerable to certain attack types - I can take down Glinthawk packs in UltraHard whilst taking almost nil damage thanks to 4x50% free resist Adept Bank Warrior armour. The Adept Lodge weapons are fairly tasty as well.

It is well worth the price. I spent many hours on this new expansion and loved every minute. You get to buy new weapons and outfits (using a new resource called 'Bluegem'), and some of the missions may be familiar, but are also harder. There is a bandit camp too, and this is a lot more fun than the standard camps on the original map - and there's even an extra cauldron.

Do you have to start the whole game again after installing the DLC?

No, when you load, you will see the new map area, regardless of where you are in the main game.
