Looks like I am purchasing it tomorrow night then - wife and son will be at parents so have the place to myself!

I still have to collect some vessels and flowers etc. (done all the cauldrons, longlegs, bandit camps etc) but dont really feel the urge to trek around to collect them to just get modifications and shards (got around 20k shards sitting unspent and have all the shadow weaponry with very rare mods on them, also have the special armour)
If you like this, then there's a chance you'll also enjoy (as I did, and I am very very picky when it comes to games these days) Assassin's Creed: Origins. For me, these were two of the best games I have played since the original Tomb Raider, Silent Hill and RE, over 20 years ago.

I did like the old RE and SH games actually - I played the recent RE game on a demo on PS4 but didnt like it though, cannot remember why I didnt like it but it put me off automatically buying the game.

Will take a look at Assassins Creed, I played the original as well years ago and was blown away by the visuals and stealth kills etc. But will have to wait until I finish the DLC for HZD!

It took me exactly 100 hours to reach a completion rate of 80% on both the main game and the Frozen Wilds with all side quests completed and special objects collected, level 57. I missed a few data points and skipped a few hunting zones and perhaps a few camp fires, though not sure that should account for the remaining 20% ?

Feels good to be able to take down a series of Stormbirds quite some time after being absolutely thrashed by the first one met about half way through the game hehe
Some of the strongest beasts in the Frozen Wilds still take some kind of effort even with the best weapons, and that is good thing.

Any suggestion on a worthwhile follow up game?
I spent an hour on The Witcher 3 but have not quite warmed to the gameplay yet, so moved onto Nioh in the meantime which feels like it may take an awful lot of time...

118 hours for 2x play-thrus (1x Hard Mode, 1x Ultra-hard mode on NG+) + DLC, everything on UH/NG+ completed to 100% (all data points, collectibles etc). One of the few games I felt compelled to 100% and enjoyed doing so, even though the beasts in the DLC are f'ing hard in normal mode, let along Ultra-Hard! Still worth it.

As for follow ups, I'm gravitating towards Hellblade Senua's Sacrifice although it's a completely different tone of game.

Always interesting to see people play the game through again on a harder level, I get its a challenge but don't think I could start all over and play out the same storyline again knowing what happens. For me the discovery of the characters and storyline was a lot of the enjoyment. Will give the DLC a go tonight and start thinking about trying out Assassins Creed in anticipation of having to move on!

IME some games just become comfortable places to spend your time. You enjoy the game mechanics and the environment and just ignore the story the second time round.

Better that than trying a new and disappointing game with your limited spare time.

I guess I get bored quickly...love the mechanics and environment of the game but I like the idea of discovery moreso I think.

Liking the DLC so far, that Scorcher at the beginning though, talk about straight in at the deep end! Generally a lot harder to kill stuff so a bit more of a challenge!

Indeed, I thought I was pretty levelled and tooled up killing machine and it took me quite a few attempts to get past the first Scorcher (my excuse being I was playing on Ultra Hard). Putting you in a very confined space made it really hard.

The DLC is really well done, very atmospheric and the snow effects are sometimes amazing. I really loved H:ZD and it's a real shame that apparently there's not going to be any more DLC.

The only frustration with all the pretty white snow is that they aiming reticle is also white so gets lost against the background. Unless I have missed an option somewhere to change the colour of it?

Wait until you try to complete the (optional) Hunting Ground trials where you have to take down a dozen or so beasts with limited weapons and limited time. Truth be told I rage quit a few times until I managed to get it done.

IMO it really pays off to have multiple purple weapons of the same type, but maxed out for individual strengths

I tried the level 40 trials I think you are referring too - I have a high leveled up stormslinger so could do that in a minute on that trial, I had a pop at the multiple waves one and got second place - will have another go at that one soon.

The other lady who wants me to kill the frozen machines, I literally run out of arrows about halfway through killing the last machine which is proving frustrating!

Is she even clear on how many she wants killed?
I have not been able to take down more than 8 so far and cannot see how to kill more with the poor gear supplied.

I was doing it last night, I think its 10 or 11. The last one I literally had 6 arrows left and only knocked off half the energy.

I was wearing the shielded armour, getting in close and getting a hit on the weak points then running away waiting for the armour to replenish itself again and repeating. You got to hit the weak points each time rather than wasting arrows hitting armour so you need to either be a great shot or my strategy was to get in close take a few hits then slow it down and hit weak spots hard from close range.

I did not think about shooting off the rock as I thought it would not be counted as a kill if the hunter does not literally attract each machine herself... I suppose waiting for her to shoot is not needed then?

Just attract the attention of the machines, get them to chase you and run around the rock a few times and she will hit them with freeze bombs from the sling, as soon as the machines are in frozen state hit the weak points as hard as you can - key is to be accurate and not waste arrows hitting armour.

Well, I have moved onto another game and I have already forgotten that the machines needed to be frozen first... Thanks for the tip though, I intend to try the game in NG+ when I get back to it.

There's a few tricks to succeeding at this challenge, but you need to use all your smarts.

The chargers you need to get your accomplice to freeze then hit their weak point with the hardpoints to induce them to catch fire. Once they're on fire they will eventually burn to death, but you'll need to run away from them while they burn. Run AWAY from your accomplice to "drag" the chargers with you otherwise she will very unhelpfully freeze them again and put out the fire!

The lancehorns you just need to do with carefully aimed elemental arrow at their rear end and hope when one goes off it takes out another with it.

The scrappers are best dealt with by hanging around underneath the log traps that are around the outside of the arena (quite high up) and attached to the sides of the mounds, and then hitting the log traps with an arrow and hoping they take out at least one scrapper each time. Timing and clever dodging is key here.

Finally just finish off the big mutha (forget what it's called) with your remaining arrows once they've been frozen by your accomplice, you'll need to make sure you get its explosive bits and then shoot it in the face for maximum damage.

It's a real waiting game this one; every arrow has to count for maximum damage so you have to bide your time to make sure every shot is perfect.

This thread made me fire H:ZD again the other night, had lots of fun doing my "Thunderjaw valley" deathrun (3 x thunderjaws and 2 x stormbirds on a loop). Aloy is now level 180...

Yup, bang on. Pro tip: On the final beast - a scorcher IIRC - get it frozen, blow it's big sack, then have it chase you round under a stack of logs that are tied up on a cliff; once it's underneath simply shoot the trap and let the falling logs take care of the rest. IIRC the logs will do 50-70% damage if you time it right.

One of the most frustrating things about that challenge was when you'd have beasts on fire doing some nice damage, but then your accomplice would hit it with freeze, put out the fire, the robots survive, and your left with zero arrows to finish the challenge hehe

Hi guys, yet another thread resurrection here! Recently picked this up cheap in the sale and am currently about 50% through it. I absolutely love it. Its definitely one of the best I've ever played. Managed to get a fair bit done yesterday from 11am til 7pm. The mrs wasn't happy! Lol
I'm looking forward to seeing the end and will feel sad I've come to the end of an amazing game. I will be 100% completing it which I can only be bothered doing with the absolute best games.
Also looking forward to the DLC which sounds interesting, if not bloody hard! laugh
