OK so I got my headphone/mic biz all sorted - how do we party up on this shanky alpha?

Get a group together on steam voice chat, could use in game chat but there is no chat in menu, other options are available such as discord. Load up the game, go through your friends list on the bottom left of the menu screen and send your invites, select your game mode, click ready and away you go!

I'm not on tonight but I'll be up for some tomorrow evening. Got a good few PHers on my friends list now, should be able to get some good squad games on the go.

Cool, should be on later once the kids are down.

Had some good rounds last night. A much better experience when you can communicate with your squad that's for sure.

Cheers! If surround isn't really possible and stereo is the way to go then I've already got some Bose QC25s that should fit the bill.

I'm sure they be perfectly solid.

Without wishing to drag the thread of topic all I would say is that the DTS 7.1 in the phones I mentioned above IS impressive.

No it's not like in a cinema but a heli passing over head has a definite sense of approach from behind and off into the foreground.

I find identifying where shots are coming from quite difficult at times which is fairly important but I use crappy cheap headphones.

When you watch videos of StoneMountain playing he always has headphones on but seems to be able to call out and react to shots being fired with alarming accuracy. Many of his videos you'll here him shout out, shots fired, 2 o'clock while diving behind the nearest tree at the perfect angle to get into cover. Usually when I am getting shot at, I'm too busy trying to work where the shots are even coming from and get nailed before I've worked out where they are. Would a decent pair of headphones help with this? Apart from a general left or right, how would stereo headphones help you pinpoint shot location so accurately or am I just crap?

It comes with playing it more, we were all rubbish at the start (go back to some of his older videos) and its just something you get with playing it more.

Edit: I should mention I have approx 100 hours on this and I still am never 100% sure where a first shot comes from, its usually the 2nd or 3rd shot when I manage to work it out.

If people are looking to improve their game, the first professional invitational competition is happening at the moment. Payouts starting at 15th place going up to $40k per round win!

There's 3 days of solo's (First was yesterday eve), then a Duo, then a Squad.

The whole match is streamed on twitch, or you can follow your favourite streamer through their own mediums.

There's many "professional" teams playing, so a good way to see how the "best" play.

As for headphones, as I said in the other thread linked, "Gaming" headphones are generally quite cheap headsets themselves, and IMO multiple surround drivers are a gimmick. I use a set of stereo headphones, and can tell where the shots come from with a single shot. A lot of it comes down to experience and knowledge of the lay of the land (so you know where to expect people).
