Sound is a key part of the emotional experience of cars, be they real or virtual. All other racing games produce snorts and snarls, I want GT to do the same.

I believe damage is switchable from what I've read, but I could be wrong.

TBH, I'll still buy it. I've had every GT game released and love the format. Online racing took it to another level. The PS4 is so powerful, I'm hoping for greatness.

As for the online part of the beta haven't managed to get into a race yet due to server issues so I'm left setting hot laps. I was really looking forward to the game but can't help but feel its missed the mark thus far...

I still can't believe there is no ability to damage the cars! I can't at the moment think of other racing franchises that don't have cosmetic damage at the very least!

It's a beta stress test, it's not suppose to be a demo representing the finished game.

What GT Sport and subsequently GT7 cannot have is the PS2 rendered models that plagued GT5 and GT6. It was unacceptable in those games but would be an absolute joke in these upcoming titles. I'd say that the ongoing sound issue is secondary to this one. If they don't have the resources to render all those cars properly, don't bother including them!

Looks like something off The Sims hehe

So what do people think then ?

I've done a few races, hardly an expert, but:

The music sucks, badly. I have no idea why they bother.

Engine/tyre sound is.. better but its still pretty poor - when a race starts and the game shows you the cars sat on the grid from the front it just sounds a big distorted mess. I've got 3 group 3 cars and they all sound exactly the same - I really hope thats just for this beta version...

The car ghosting to avoid collisions (when on brakes etc) I can sort of get what they are trying to do, but it doesn't work. People have noticed a little nudge in to the rear 3 quarter at speed slows you enough they can get past, likewise I've found people going off track on the inside of a corner, once off the brakes they give you a whack and you lose a bunch of speed and they are past.. Also it can work against you - I got ghosted because a car behind me didn't brake, he drives through me and doesn't get ghosted, his car completely blocks my view of the track, I screw up turn in because I can't see - he goes on to crash because he was too fast, but I've lost time correcting my mistake.
Apparently its only active in groups D and E, even so it needs a rethink.

The winner screen after a race is completely pointless and hangs around far too long. We already saw who one on the previous page, the winner screen is pointless "ooh look we can draw a pretty picture" fluff that GT seems to value over actually making a good game.

I think they've made a better game that Project Cars in terms of using a pad, but I can't help but think everything feels a bit wooden? I think ultimately it still needs a wheel if you want to get properly involved.

Shouldn't all driving games be played using a wheel?

To me playing with a game pad is just wrong with a car game.

I've played a few days, mostly time trial but a few races. Tbh the more I play the less I'm liking it. After Assetto Corsa and Project Cars it's just not doing it for me...there is no drama or sense of speed, handling is a bit meh, and you can bounce off the walls and carry on if you make a mistake...I've owned every version of GT and will probably buy it and play it on pad on the tv for a laugh, but it's been surpassed by the newcomers in my humble opinion.

Sadly GT has fallen very far from the tree, Forza, with all its faults has put it very much in the shade I terms of a career and modding platform, pCars, AC and dirt show it a clean pair of heals with physics sound and immersion.

This was their chance to put itself back on the map, but currently it doesn't look like it is going the right way, Pcars2 is out this year and first impressions look very impressive based on the recent Q and A and videos and AC continues to be brilliant and add to their expansive list of cars.

New Forza out this year as well, jsadly not on the PS4.

Was hoping of a return to form for GT.

I have access to the PCars2 beta and can say having played both in terms of handling and realism it's no contest, PCars2 is brilliant (although I'm no fan of the ice track as I spend most of my time in the drifts going nowhere). The Rallycross I enjoy more than I did Dirt but having never done rx in real life can't speak for the realism in either game.

GTSport already feels like a grind, driving 26 miles a day to get another car...I prefer the time trials because races are already full of idiots who just bounce off the barriers past you...

Nah, I don't like wheels. I've always used a pad and found it works fine.

There's also the matter of cost and space.

I had a wheel for a while but didn't use it enough to justify the expense and just found it took up a load or room, boxed or otherwise, in the living room. If you've a dedicated gaming space you maybe OK.

Have to be honest what I've been reading isn't making me happy.

Much more excited for PC2.

I'd happily use a wheel. my £50 DFGT is sat in the box ready to go, but Sony, Logitech and Thrustmaster conspired to fk everyone over, my wheel isn't ever going to work and a replacement is ~£180, which frankly is taking the piss for a chunk of plastic and a electric motor.

It seems that Thrustmaster will be making a new GT branded wheel, I guess we'll wait and see what price point it comes in at, I suspect it will be ~ £100.

For what it's worth I bought a T300RS (when that and the T500 were the only options) to replace my DFGT. It's much, much better than a DFGT. I completely understand that it is a big expense for a toy though.

Watched a few videos of GT Sport. It saddens me as I have played every other GT game and been a fan since day 1... but I think I'll be giving it a miss. Project CARS was much better and PCARS2 looks brilliant already.

There is an option at last thumbup

It requires some technical tinkering though, so not exactly ideal.

Yeah I've seen the GIMX, there are a couple of other emulators around that I forget the names of.

You used to have to buy all the bits and then make the GIMX, but they sell them now, about £30.
You have to plug the wheel in to a PC, plug the PC into PS4 and then screw around calibrating and configuring it each time you want to use it. You can run the software on a raspberry pi, which I guess you could hide easily, another £30 or so and more screwing about. I agree it is an option, just not sure I can be bothered to screw around with it all the time.

Fast becoming a grumpy old man, Eric would approve I expect hehe

Just found a pic of the GT branded wheel - can't really find much more info at the moment

Downloading now; 17gb!

As others, I grew up playing GT series on a pad, only recently have I paid out to get a wheel / seat.

I've got Project Cars, Dirt Rally and recently purchased Asetto Corsa for the PS4. With AC I felt like I'd bought only half the game, with the majority of cars non-selectable and part of paid-for DLC. Lack of research on my part I guess, but disappointing nonetheless. I hope GT doesn't go the same way.

Project Cars is very immersive and I am looking forward to PC2. However, I can't help but feel a little regret that I don't own an Xbox and haven't had the chance to get involved with the likes of Forza, which is what Gran Turismo should be aiming to top.

Also gutted when I fired up Need for Speed 2015 the other day to discover there is no steering wheel support. I guess it is an arcade game, but last time I checked, so was Ridge Racer, and that was always played on a wheel rig at the arcades... Pffft
