I think the AI is a massive improvement. It defends into corners and is no mug on the brakes, which used to always be the certain way to easily overtake.

AI cars have their own little accidents and spins, which adds to the realism and variety and yes, if you don't think about where you put your car, and how, it will nudge you or spin you out. It won't just give up and be bullied. I think that's a massive improvement, even though I got spun out in a couple of races. Looking at the replays, I wasn't the smartest in where and how I chose to overtake.

However the AI is still crap.

Just done a 30lap endurance in a Porsche (which ate front tyres), on pitting it wouldn’t allow me to select do not change tyres. This made my stops longer. Every time I’d pit I’d go from 20seconds down to being in the lead then the cars would start hitting me or spin me. Whenever I was in front they would easily pass me yet I could reel them in all day long.
I've done this event three times (their server failed, my broadband dropped, completed) and the AI cars are faster than the 911. I'm doing consistent 2:03s and they're catching me and when we're running together there's not much in it. I'm quicker in three places of the circuit, they are quicker down the straights. The M6 in particular monsters the 911 in a straightline. 2:03s doesn't reel them in quickly so you must be doing much better than that, in which case I applaud you!

The first time I did it (which didn't count as their server went down) I lost to the M6 by a second. I think they need to do one more stop than I do but I've never studied them to be sure.

I didn’t clock my lap times (and I’m a very average player) but I’m on a wheel if that’s a difference?

I won the event and have now completed all the challenges. However the rally event can ps off. I got bronze but it’s like driving with slicks on ice. Why GT still choose to mess about with st like that I don’t know.
My race time was 1:03 and I won by half a second.

Looking at the Top 10 times, 1:01:46 gets you in the top 10, so you must be close.

I'm still on the dual shock. No money or space for a wheel setup.

Is there any point getting this if I just have the controller? Not really sure where to start with wheels etc. - what are folk mounting them on?
Controller is fine. You do give away some speed but you can still have fun.

Thinking maybe we swap to an 8:30 start.

GT4 category cars (you should get one for completing the first row of Missions) only.

5x Fuel Usage, 5x Tyre Usage

Two races, each one 10 laps on the Dragon Trail track, one forward and one backwards.

Message 'challenger001' on PSN if you want a friend request to join in, but I'll name the room 'Pistonheads' so if you're on at that time, you should be able to find me

The Alfa 4C is a nightmare on the pad. I guess the mid-engined physics are the issue but it has understeer, snap oversteer and general instability. Cannot get small enough inputs on the pad thus far.

ETA. Really finding the limitation of the pad now. Both the kart and the Alfa snap in an instant and are completely irrevocable when they go. I've found this before on GT6 etc. Certain configurations of car are really difficult and settings have to be tweaked to make them pad friendly.

Ah shoot! Sorry man, must have been a bit defensive on the security settings when I set them up. frown
No worries, can sort it for the full game.

I've been playing the daily race events. Interesting that if someone hits you, your SR goes down. As per most games, there's decent clean stuff at the front and it's a demolition derby further down. Damage will make things very interesting. If they're not very proactive with the ghosting then many people are going to be put off by the constant menace of dheads ruining their races. (And their SR taking a beating to rub salt into the wound).

The Gr.1 stuff isn't great. On the expressway it's like playing Wipeout without the powerups and decent soundtrack.

There were car upgrades on the settings screen. You could trade mileage points for power increases or weight reductions. I'm assuming that unlocked setting screens will allow purchase of upgraded parts, too.

Crikey. An illustration of all that is wrong with games retail in 2017, that.
And not even the worst one.

Fair play for trying to summarise.

From what I can see, Smyths Toys £39 for the basic game seems best without getting into buying bundles etc. Previous experience of DLC included in premium versions of the game was, at best, unique liveried versions for cars you could buy ingame anyway.

If i was planning on getting a physical copy in the UK then I think I would go with the Smyths deal.

I already have 8 cars, .5mil credits and 15k+ mileage points from the beta, so £9 for 6 not so great cars isn’t really worth it, although the extra 1.5 mil in credits would be good, especially if you didn’t play the beta. Its possible you will need mileage points to tune cars rather than credits though.

However if you get a digital copy the standard is £49.99 so an extra £10 for the digital deluxe as a pre order gets you access to 15 nice cars saving you a good few mil in credits, as well as 2.5 mil credits , (2 for deluxe + .5 for the pace car pack).

Also at 00:01 I can start playing as it is already installed. If i get a physical copy in store I have to go get it, wait for 50+gb of installation then wait while another 12 gb downloads for the patch before I start playing.

Amazon could be upto 9pm or so for the drop off, and you know it will take an age to get that patch when everyone else is home and downloading that patch at the same time.

So I just went for the digital one instead, i’m already at level 19 just from the beta.
Yeah, I get it and I know I'll be sitting waiting on the install but it looks like credits and cars will be much easier to accrue this time. Can't blame people going for the premium options, particularly if you don't have time to put the effort in, but the cars above don't justify it for me.

Release date is tomorrow so that might be why your code doesn't work yet?
Really hope that’s the case so will hold off emailing them for now.
I've had that before on other titles. DLC wasn't enabled on the store until release date.

Norbs, the hard way to do it.

Tesco direct are doing PS4 "Day one edition" plus a DualShock for £76.

Sell the DualShock for at least 40 and the DLC codes for £5 and you've got the game for £30.

I ended up grabbing the day one edition from Tesco by itself. My download has just finished so will be on in force later. Tyres has got a 70gb download for the game!
A promising start!

Does anyone know whether if you keep playing, your further progress is saved next time to reconnects please?

ETA. The answer to that appears to be Yes. In the licenses at least.
