You should join ‘the geezers’ on Gtplanet - they are all 60+ and run races. Looks a good laugh.
Cheers...I'll have a look.

Frustrated with the one lap only nature of the circuit experience challenge I've done a TT with the M6 at the 'ring. BoP on, RH tyres I've done a 6 min 45 this morning so plenty of room for improvement.
For "plenty", that'd be about half a second for me!!

I really need to get onto some replays and see why I'm so bad frown

6 min 42 now. I'm almost 20 secs off the fastest person in my friends list!

Just seen a vid of a guy going round in 6:30 (as a gentle target : laugh: and he's flat through a lot of the corners where I'm lifting. Will try to get braver. He does tune his car too, I didn't realise that was possible with BoP, he mainly does gear ratio and final drive. Can't see that giving me 15 seconds tho...

I didn't think tuning is possible in the M6 circuit event?

Interesting tune on the 458 - lots of opposites (max front/min rear and vice versa)!

Correct. I've been using fixed settings.

I remember reading this on a forum years ago. - The fast guys know how to get the max from the car, the aliens know how to get the max from the physics engine - big big difference.

In GT5/6 I could tune anything... though the shortcuts were pretty simple - soft springs, flipped bound/rebound, min LSD decel, zero (or negative) rear toe, maxed ARB's, LSD accel 12-18, then raise front relative to rear to increase general rotation. Worked for pretty much anything other than the GSXR and Yellowbird.

No idea how to tune in GTS yet.

Aliens will be fast in any tune, the level below are the ones that really benefit from a good tune!

Some new rules..

10. Sport Mode
 - The Sportsmanship Rating (SR) and penalty judgement algorithms have been improved;
 - In a collision between two cars, a penalty will now be added to the Driver Rating (DR) as well as incurring a Time Penalty depending on the situation;
 - If a driver continues to drive without complying with a certain amount of Time Penalty, additional time penalties will be added. (The additional penalty depends on the DR);
 - A driver may now be disqualified from a race if the number of collisions and shortcuts they accumulate becomes too great;
 - Cars over a lap behind will now be ghosted and will not be subject to collisions. (Only enabled in Sport mode);
 - It is now possible to submit grief reports for misconduct of other users.

Have they employed a team of FIA stewards for the grief reports?

It just got a lot tougher!
Penalties no longer wearing down as you drive normally, so you have to actively brake and spend them now, and if you don’t do it the time starts to increase!

So just got GT Sport last week and a g29 set up...

Not very good but have finished all driving school to gold and upto stage 3 on the missions all gold - the missions were easier than the driving school and could end up crashing and still come first...

So what’s the best way to start playing online ? The daily races ? Are there PH races going on?

Sorry I didn’t read all 130 pages ;( to impatient ...

Any tips for setting up the g29

I have auto brake of, tc turned turned down to 1 or 2...

I started in the one make daily and that's pretty much all I still do..

I have my G29 settings quite low 2/2/4

I have abs default, TC off, and CSA off although I will try CSA in practice and use it if I'm faster with it on, I find it useful on the Tokyo tracks.

I would say just jump in a race and see how it goes smile

Not sure how quick/consistent you are, but my general advice is...

1. I find GT4 cars the easiest to drive in the game (speed/grip balance)
2. Avoid Tokyo, Monza and ovals as they are typically crash fests
3. Spend a decent amount of time qualifying - both to set a good time and to build consistency with the car track - you want to be able to run close to your best every lap
4. Between races, go back and run more qualifying laps
5. Avoid having crashes on you own - you can't always avoid getting hit by another car, but you can avoid crashing on your own

Aids... ABS default & CSA strong are both very effective. Use TC if you need it, but only at setting 2 (TC at 1 is as bad as 0, and anything above 2 kills your exit speed)... ideally, avoid TC altogether.

The most important thing is to run plenty of qualifying laps - even on an event I'm familiar with, I'll usually run at least 30 mins (and I'm typically in the top 10 times). The more laps you run, the more you'll ingrain brake points and lines, the more consistent you'll be in the race, and the more you'll be able to focus on racing rather than driving.

I'd choose a GT4 non-pitstop race at a track you like in something like the M4 as a 1st event.

Will be a bit nerve wracking to start, but you'll soon get your confidence.
