Literally just read that on GT Planet. I can fully understand that as people were quicker with a shifter in certain races. After last update I was using the shifter within the arcade section and was just constantly missing gears. It was horrible but then again, I was missing the odd gear or two before the update. Will update tonight and see what it's like in campaign/arcade mode/s.
HAHA I also just read the one saying it will be going back to how it was.
It needs to, they've changed the wrong thing IMO.

I've only been playing the Campaign mode as I was on 32K DR points and was punted so much that I have gone down to 23K DR meaning I'm back on B rated DR. Online racing is something I just can't be a:cendoredbiggrin with and would rather watch Kie, Tidgney et al steaming then play the game at the moment.
I use one of my kids accounts for the daily races, and increasingly for FIA, I save my "best" account for gtplanet events, for some reason getting punted and DR resets don't bother me on their account, I had a DR reset last week on race B, just got back to A thanks to this weeks race A.
There's some places in a Cayman Cup series being run by Ares85 over on gtplanet if anyone fancies it, the events I've done have a real nice feel to them, respectful racing, a lot like "real" club racing, and you don't need alien speed to take part..

I need to join lobbies rather than do the Daily (weekly) races. This weeks ones are just dire yet again. How many times do we need Gr2 cars at Suzuka?

I think when I could be bothered to pay 50 quid a year to be ALLOWED to play online I used to do lobbies, far more fun, more unique type races and less dealing with the pathetic penalty system and idiot drivers

I just wish DR/SR points could be raised when joining lobbies where drivers want to race for real.

One of the good things about lobbies is that they can be self policing, bit like when you played football as a kid without a ref, lots of lobbies will kick dirty players, don't get me wrong they're not all squeaky clean, but you soon learn to notice the players that promote clean racing. This weeks daily races are dire and no FIA till saturday, luckily I have two GTPlanet events this week smile.
Anyone trying their luck in the Supra event?

I was in a lobby with lightning a while back it was Gr3 at Brands, he was in the Z4 and I was in the Aston, he got stuck behind me for a lap, when I watched his stream back he's saying, oh my god why is this guy going so slow...laugh

And you get stuck behind me. What would he be saying about me then?

There's stuck and there's good defending smile, I was doing low 24's, his first lap when he got by was a mid 22.

Some great racing tonight mate! I have to admit to a sigh of relief when you went grass tracking smile

A bit...there's always going to be a meta car for every combo, whichever the class, this week is a Toyota fest, next week's race B is Gr3 at La Sarthe, no fuel or tyre wear, that should give the McLaren and Gtr a chance to shine smile

Oh...and while you're on can you stop beating my TT times please smile

Gr4 race this week (Interlagos) has been a complete SR killer for me.

Can anyone shed any light on the rules relating to being hit up the rear? It appears if you get rear ended/punted off the track the punter gets the penalty, but if you get hit and manage to stay on track you end up with the penalty yourself.

I've had a couple of situations where overtaking hasn't been an option and I've had to slow up and wait for a passing opportunity. On slowing up I've been hit by someone from behind, we've both kept control, but I've ended up with the 5 sec penalty. I can only assume it's down to the game making an assumption that I'm driving/braking aggressively towards the car behind, when actually in one case I didn't even touch the brakes to slow up.

Slowly getting into the online side of the game now, but my god its frustrating when you try to keep your nose clean and some nobber decides to run you off the track and you end up being penalised for it.

The penalty system is a complete joke. After an update it gets better and then worse after another update. I've had people spin off in front of me and as there's nowhere for me to go, I end up driving into them and I get the penalty. You should watch EERIEISSSS, SuperGT, Tidgney, Kie's videos which shows them getting some damn awful penalties for doing nothing. As I said, a complete joke.

Glad its not just me, at one point I thought I was doing something wrong and not realising.

Shame really as it spoils an otherwise great online game.

One thing I have noticed though is that the idiots seem to disappear somewhat as your DR/SR ratings increase, which is natural i guess given the nature of the ranking system. The problem comes when you have an innocent "incident" and get kicked for it. The one I posted above gave me a 5 sec penalty, which I can live with, but on top of that I was booted from SR=B to SR=D after the race race. Kinda sucks when compared to the amount of work you have to do to increase your rating from one rank to another.

My DR went down by about 9K after some awful races and my SR got hit quite badly too.

What wind me up is that when you're bumped from behind, you get a SR reduction meaning no clean race bonus.

As you said, a great game which is spoilt by it's silly penalty system...saying that, sometimes people do get deserved penalties which is the flip side to the system I guess.

Yeah I've seen plenty more justified penalties handed out than I've seen (or received) unjustified, so I guess on balance it's getting the decision right more often than not - which is something.

Still not much consolation when a split second non-fault incident can put you back to the position you were in 3 nights ago.

Since the update the game has become more about penalty avoidance than driving. I've won a few races where I've been middle of the grid, and not driven all that well but avoided other cars and everything in front of me has at some point ended up with a penalty, leaving me to gradually get past everyone. On paper I shouldn't have had a chance at winning, but a 5 second penalty on a 4 lap race can ruin it for even the fastest driver.

My main issue with the penalties is the way they are served in qualifying now. You write off two laps if you pick up a pen and have to serve it on the next lap. It's just wasted time, especially where the default starting position isn't optimal so you have to do a lap to get up to speed or do a U-turn to go back and get the best run. For sure, penalise a short cut for that lap, or anything giving an unfair advantage onto the start of the following lap, but don't kill two laps.

Qualifying penalties should either have the lap voided or the penalty added to the lap time and recorded as normal.

I tend to just restart if I pick one up, but agree some circuits start you in a position where the extra speed carried from the previous corner would have saved half a second on the lap, meaning you need 2 laps just to have a chance of recording a good time.
