What driver level/rating have people reached using the standard PS4 controller (as opposed to a wheel)?
I’ve been playing 2 weeks and reached level B, which I think is pretty reasonable. Anyone got to level A or higher on a pad?
I'm DR S SR S (though currently A+ as I don't do the FIA events, which you need to in order to be DR S)

There are people at the World Tour events who qualify on a pad (but are then made to compete on a wheel at the event). Dodge Lamb being one example.
Wow. Impressive stuff.

I'm A+/S on a wheel (like Ferris, I would be DRS if I'd done FIA events), but I doubt I'd make much better than low B on the pad laugh

I'm >1s a minute slower with the pad than the wheel... but can be a lot worse than that on some car/track combinations.

I'm A on a pad, pretty much the same pin a wheel too. Pros/cons for both.

What are the disadvantages for a wheel? Having never used one before I assumed a wheel would be infinitely better...

Hi all, regarding pit stops in Sport mode, particularly the FIA races. Are cold tyres post pit stop a thing?

Lost 7 places after flying off the track in first corner of brands hatch as soon as I exited the pits as the car literally didn’t go round the corner frown

Yes. Cold tyres is a thing but the tyre indicator only shows when they're overheated, which is a bit silly.

Hi,

I bought a PS4 and GT Sport last week. I am not a huge gamer but a big Gran Turismo fan. So far so good, I have enjoyed the few hours I've played. I was looking for input into if it is worth paying for playing online. I understand that this is apparently a big aspect of GT Sport.

I remember it was quite good on GT5, with weekly tasks and time trial events on top of the usual online racing.

Is it worth it?

I would say the offline game is 4/10 and online is 8/10. It’s a massive improvement for me. You can get online for 1 month for a fiver and then cancel if you don’t like it. That’s what I did.

Put it this way, if it wasn't for the online aspect I wouldn't still be playing it 2.5 years after release. I suspect others feel the same? Go for it..

Do you have a wheel set up?

Oh yes, go for it. Also, watch Super GT and Kie25's GT Sport streams on YouTube. Some great races and course guides. I've learnt quite a bit watching their vids.

It really depends if you can find likeminded racers at your level.
For me, i get a little frustrated at the lack of racecraft on display, people behind do not get punished for tapping your rear or making stupid lunges, but more often than not, after the first lap nonsense the races settle down. I haven't raced online for 4 weeks now but i do enjoy it more than AI races.

I think you can get a 2 week free trial? And then if you decide you like it, look on CDKEYS for a discount subscription.

I don't have a wheel. Interestly I've noticed the 'X' and 'Square' buttons aren't pressure sensative, so I can't modulate the throttle or brakes, I just have to tap the bottons which is annoying. I understant using 'R2/L2' would eleveate that but I grew up playing using the other buttons.

Other than that it's all good. Tried the time trial events and did a few daily races. I managed to come 2nd in one race and 3rd in another (with a fastest lap), and only got smashed by an idiot once.

Thouroughly enjoyed it so I'll be playing again tonight!

I know what you mean. I last used the pad when I had PS2 for GT 3 and 4. If you have the £ and space, I'd suggest a Logitech G29 wheel which comes with pedals, although you can get a bundle which includes the gear shifter (usually separate). The link attached has it priced at £200 https://www.currys.co.uk/gbuk/search-keywords/xx_x...

You'll more than likely have to get a seat and frame although you may have the means to mount it on furniture. It takes some getting used to but it really is satisfying and you have all the buttons you need to assign certain controls.

You can use the right stick for throttle and brake, it's much quicker than the X and Square (which I used to change gears) and was my method of choice as soon as they put the sticks on the controllers. On PS4 I've changed as I found L2/R2 is faster again, as you can transition between throttle and brake more quickly (and do both at once to simulate left foot braking and get the front end in check). It's worth learning.

Thanks for the info.

Unlikely I will get a wheel and peddles, recently moved into a small flat close to work as I lost my license... woops.

I'll have to give L2/R2 a try and see how I get on. I prefer that idea than the stick if I am honest annd I know it makes sense. I'll try qualifying for a daily race when I get home with both set-ups and see how I get on.

Try spending 10 minutes getting used to the triggers for throttle / brake and motion control (tilting the controller) for steering. It's as intuitive as you can get for me (i grew up using the face buttons and lack any finesse in my thumbs for the sticks).
