Like me and many other old(er) gits, you should all be out cycling in the real world.
Funnily enough, the bike's going in for a service now Spring is springing...I like nothing more that doing a 60-90 minute gruelling weight training workout, and then sitting down and relaxing to a Total War campaign to unwind for the evening..

Cycling seems like such a waste of time. I see a few people posting on my FB feed about doing 3-4 hour cycling trips once or twice a week (plus the 3 or 4 90 minute trips during the week). What the juddery fk. You could do something really effective for 30-40 minutes then get in some decent gaming time! (I do put a couple of hours in on the exercise bike while watching a decent documentary or something fun on YT, mind.) I may also spend 5 hours down the tennis club but it has a subsidised bar.
Like many others in the thread, I used to spend ages playing games - started back with the original Atari console (2600), so that gives an idea of age - pushing 50.
Also really enjoyed stuff like Doom when it first came out.
The only games I generally play now are things like Pro Evo Soccer on the PS3, and Super Mariocart on the Wii, when my brother or niece come round. We don't even know most of the moves on PES, but it's still fun as we're at a similar level.
The exception to the above is I recently installed World of Tanks Blitz (cut down version of WoT) on the Mac, and have really got into it. It's pretty straightforward with keyboard and mouse controls, the games are short, and the maps pretty basic and easy to learn. You also only need to learn a few basic approaches depending on what tank you're driving, so although it's multiplayer, you don't get blown up immediately. There's also only 7 tanks per side, and they are generally evenly matched.
I've had a few goes at World of Tanks (full version) and find I get blown up pretty quickly, the maps are bigger and more detailed and there are more tanks per side, so each game takes longer.
Apart from dabbling with a couple of driving games with a wheel, WoTB is the only game that has really appealed recently.
ETA - One of the driving games is a bit left-field, but Euro Truck Simulator with a seat, wheels and pedals is surprisingly relaxing - just driving along listening to the radio delivering stuff!

And thats it sold.
Down about £50 on the experience but thats definitely the last console i'll own.
This is a bit silly.Down about £50 on the experience but thats definitely the last console i'll own.
So you play the 1 player off-line version and leave it downloading in the background (it does that) and then go on-line when it is ready.
The kicker for me was staying up for the midnight launch of GTA V. Got my copy around 12:20am. Home by 12:30am. Put the disc in and it takes around 40 mins to even install the game (this just means straight from the disc). So now it is after 1:10am and I haven't even started the game yet! Still it was worth it as it was a cool moment to attend a midnight launch for an actually good game.
A friend had a net connection that gets 0.2 m/b per second. Literally slow as death. A 50gb download would take him 5 days or some ridiculous time scale. He really struggled with the situation Berlin was mentioning but he still persevered but with 1 player only.
Like most hobbies, if you want to enjoy it, you can find a way. If you want to find a reason to get rid, you will.

Updates from the disc I can understand as the final updates are done after the game goes gold & is sent out to shops. Worse are games that need a 12 GB patch 1 day after release via download.
I have a piss poor net that struggles to get 1 mb/s,Ive seen it down to bytes/s, but leave it overnight & it usually manages even big patches. Big new games might still take a time

Well I am not that kind of lazy thing. I like playing games, esp online. When I found out that online games can bring money I started to practice my skills in League of Legends game. I use now dreamteam platform because it's more convenient to find other players to play in team. Some ppl earn good money just for playing games.
How can you earn money playing games? What kind of system do you need?Hoofy said:

Yeah, I'd heard of that. I misread it I think. £500 a day from playing games for 12 hours a day? I guess that is for a whole bunch of prisoners rather than one prisoner. There's a game on the Xbox for sale at the moment for £1.00 called Pacman 256. Essentially it's a never-ending version of pacman (so a maze that you have to climb and it keeps rolling).
Very easy to pickup, play a quick game, put it down again. Can play multiplayer too. It's caused a good storm in our house.

I'm too lazy to learn a new strategy game, so my super powerful PC is being used to play......Dune II
And it's great fun. The only house I managed to complete it with was the Harkonnen when I used to play this on the Amiga.
i found a modification online called Dune Legacy that lets me run it in HD on Windows 10, so it's actually very playable.

This is where gaming on the Apple TV really needs to get itself sorted for the myriad of reasons listed previously.
Sit down, turn on and you're running.
There are some good games on the ATV, OceanHorn, broken age, lumino city, inside etc. but it doesn't have the catalogue of games needed nor support for a steering wheel and pedals.
Perhaps a Steam type box instead?

Funnily enough I’ve got a Steam Link still in its box that I bought for downstairs on Black Friday for the princely sum of £4, which I find myself too lazy to set up.Sit down, turn on and you're running.

Maybe I am the problem
Mind I am VERY interested in Forza Horizon 4 when it comes out.

That is basically a console if you download the games. Sit down, turn on and you're running.

Both apple tv and a console both need to have update versions of the games if they have online elements.
The boot time of a PS4 pro is probably 10 to 20 seconds so hardly that big a delay.
So basically I can't see the benefit in what you are proposing is the reason for ATV to be the way forward.

Stuff
Give gaming a break.I played quite a lot until I was around 26yo. Similar to you, I lost my mojo with games, so I took the decision to stop playing altogether for a while, give games a chance to move on, and myself to get into other things.
since then I have picked up a whole host of interests and skills. I literally replaced my gaming time with learning stuff. Completely random stuff too. I now speak norwegian, can paraglide, run a marathon, kayak, rockclimb, have won competitions for swordfighting, archery, fell running, have built mobile apps, websites, arduino randomness, got into motorbiking, search and rescue, rebuilt a classic car and probably lots more I can't think of right now.
10 years later, I have finally restarted a bit of gaming. My daughter got me into Fortnite, so I play that amongst some other stuff. Mojo is back, even if my reaction times are pretty bad now. Games have also come on a huge amount, so it's been quite exciting(?) to get into what is out there now.
