Had a text (not an email) this morning from Argos to confirm Scorpio edition was on its way and would be delivered on release date. Oddly, it then says "To track your order, use ref. Shipped in the UK Mail website".

"Shipped" seems like an odd reference, and sure enough, the UK Mail website doesn't recognise it. Anyone else pre-ordered with Argos and had the same message?
Further to the above, I've now had a follow up text, apologising and suggesting the original message was sent in error. Proper tracking details will be sent as soon as item is actually dispatched.

Silly question time, Google isn't being much help.

If I get CoD today for the Xbone, does it then transfer over to the XboneX when it arrives next week? I can't see an option to buy one version or the other so assume one purchase works on both machines?

Physically the same hardware, so unless there's any encoding/software level stuff happening, I doubt it. (especially as the S is HDR/4K compatible)

General consensus seems to be that, unsurprisingly, the hardware itself is very impressive. There do seem to be some valid points made about some curious oversights in the media side of things, such as the youtube app not supporting 4K or HDR, and the fact that the home page is still stuck at 1080p. The comment in Polygon's review about cutting out the UHD Blu Ray player seems an odd comment though; it's one of the key advantages of the One S and One X over the PS4 duo, surely?

Secondly, it's now possible to start downloading a updates ready for when One X lands on your doorstep. Some of the file sizes appear huge however - even with a physical copy of the game, Gears 4 now demands 60GB of install data, Forza Horizon 3 is up to nearly 100GB as a digital download and I'm not yet certain if there'll be further patches on One X release day. I suppose it's to be expected with the dramatic increase in fidelity over base hardware, but an external storage solution is looking likely to be essential.

Any recommendations as to where I might be able to get one for launch day delivery?

I’ve found a buyer for my original Xbox so need to upgrade a bit sooner than I expected!

I cancelled my order a while ago as I realised that without a 4k tv, i was kidding myself that i'd notice any difference playing Battlefield 1 (don't play too much apart from this).

I am right aren't I? confused

Funnily enough I want one because I’ve convinced myself that project cars will look better and run better on the 1080 tv in my man cave. I’ll have to take it downstairs if I want to play anything in 4K at the moment!

Check out some of the videos comparing original games running on the different hardware. The most obvious ones are the original backwards compatibility titles that have just been released (like KOTOR). They show an increase in frame rate and a few other marginal details.

Oddly BF1 isn't one of the games getting an enhancement patch. Odd choice but maybe Dice are putting all their efforts into Battlefront 2. You might have a very slight improvement in frame rate, maybe some rendering but the biggest increase would be load times.

Also, I'm sure people will have checked this out before buying but I'll mention it anyway, if you have an 8 bit colour depth 4k TV then your X won't recognise your TV as being capable of receiving 4k content. Seems to have throw a few people who have received theirs early/won promotions and competitions etc. It's sparked some debate about 8 bit 4k TVs but regardless, if you have an 8 bit TV then it won't give you the big green tick when your X is checking for a screen capable of supporting 4K Gaming. 10 bit colour depth and above seems key.

There is also some debate about what happens then and what sort of improvements to expect but no official word yet.

If you are using it with a 1080/1440 screen I think it still supersamples everything even when it isn't an X enchanced title.

Hmmm hopefully my new Panasonic 4K TV will be OK as although it is only 8bit it does have HDR. My PS4 Pro sees it as 4K and I can play Netflix 4K content.

Have you see the download sizes of 4K upgraded games, 179GB for Quantum Break - wow!

8-bit HDR and 10-bit HDR are two different things.

If you have an 8-bit HDR TV, then you won't get the right 'tick' in the setup screen for it.

I actually think the TV manufacturers have been very naughty with the whole 8-bit and 10-bit HDR thing, personally. It's false advertising, as a genuine 10-bit panel is quite a bit pricier than an 8-bit one.

I very nearly got caught out buying my 10-bit TV last year, and cancelled my first order when I found out it was an 8-bit.

The Xbox One S is - as far as I'm aware - still the best pound-for-pound 4K UHD player on the market. I always find it a bit amusing reading roundups of "the best 4K player" and a games console is on there. Pretty much the only negative against it in that domain is the fan noise, but a ~£200 player that is basically guaranteed to get firmware updates to improve the functionality, oh and it plays games too - it's basically the equivalent of the PS3 back when Bluray was new.

As for the X1X - it is still a mystery to me why Microsoft can't get their st together regarding attractive first party games. Sony have so many decent titles that they almost have too many to know what to do with.

Its the standard in the tech market for everything that unknowing people will buy, such as computers. Look at this amazing gaming computer with 8 gig of ram (not mentioning its an i3 and a 1050ti etc..).

Got to remember technically 4k is pure pixel count, HDR is the colour range of each pixel. Its theoretically possible to have a 1 bit 4k screen.

4k is the current buzz word, and people will rock up to Curry's, say ooh 100 inch 4k, please take my finance and not actually look at the panel, or the rest of the tv hardware specs.
