I must admit now that I know a bit of some of the maps in Galactic Assault I'm starting to enjoy playing and feeling like I'm making a difference to the outcome.

Have crafted a few cards etc and of course upgrades help that little bit as well.

Although some players still don't get the objective sometimes which makes it hard to win or even compete sometimes.

I’ve played for a bit now and have mixed feelings. I’m a PC player so some of this feedback may be biased towards my preferred FPS model.

Visuals are fantastic. The graphics really are great though I am running on ultra settings at 1440. There are some lag issues with the cut scenes but I can live with that.

Sound. As above excellent.

Gameplay. This is where I struggle with the weapon/upgrade/card system. For me it’s just too complicated and unnecessary. I just want a choice of weapons, to be able to carry more than one and to switch when I want. I hate the stupid timed power up system. Where you have to wait for a cool down before you can use your secondary weapon. On the pc it’s also a nightmare mapping and remembering for each class/character all the keys for each of the 4 special abilities. I guess it’s easier on console controllers.

The single player has so far been ok. The story is a bit clichéd and predictable and some of the tasks are very slow frustrating and simple (Han solo in bar) but at least it’s there.

The control system for flying missions has improved but is still annoying. I may be missing a setting but why can’t they just implement standard flight sim controls?

Talking of flying am I the only one who has a real issue with space battles happening in a planet atmosphere? This has been happening since the first in the new series of movies and I simply can’t suspend belief for it to work. It’s bad enough with X wings and tie fighters but in this game you’ve got star destroyers just floating in the atmosphere. Err wtf?

I haven’t played the multiplayer enough to comment yet however all of the positives and negatives from above will surely apply.

I will happy if the micro transactions don’t come back as then the kids can play. It’s just not worth the grief giving them games with in app purchases as they nag constantly for credit.

I don't buy that at all. More like they weren't too happy at the spotlight being shone on these mechanics. Being directly involved in software testing and planning there is no chance that Disney being the control freaks they are didn't know everything about the game.

Agree!! Too many currencies and at first it wasn't apparent what you needed to level up in order to gain access to the abilities or weapons you want... It's like they've taken the Hutt Contracts and gone bonkers with it.

I've just accepted that you need to unlock cards to enable you to apply more cards to your player and for that you need Crafting Tokens/Widgets. At the moment I've been using Credits to get Crates which then are used accordingly. Some items are given and some are duplicates so you get Credits for them.. It's a multi-layered mass of onion-ness. So far it's not too bad but it is a pain to have to get Credits to get Crates to get Crafting Tokens (or whatever they're called) to then get Cards or get Achievements which can give Crafting Parts or Credits or Emotes or weapons access.. etc.. It's not a good solution but I guess it ensures that people are playing the game, which they struggled with in the last version. But it's forcing people to play the game in order to level up.. and of course you need to go through it for each class and ship class etc...

Crazy that some of you are buying this turd.

Can't wait for those microtransactions to get turned back on and you all to wonder what the hell you spent $60 on.
Great input. Thanks. Have you actually played it and not liked it then? What was it about the game that you didn't like when you played it?

Just don't buy the game whether they fix the money issue or not. The bullst has not stopped coming out of EA/DICE since day one. The best thing to do is just not fund it.
See, this baffles me. Generally speaking, new games are all around the same price. I bought Horizon Zero Dawn for example, played it for around 70 hours and felt like I had gotten good value for money. Even Destiny 2, which has zero endgame. I payed my money, played about 120 hours and, even though I wish it had kept my interest for longer, I don't feel short changed. Both of these games want more of my money for Their DLC content and I'm fine with that.

If I get £50 worth of fun from Battlefront 2, get to run around with my mates in a Star Wars universe firing space blasters at total strangers, why on earth shouldn't I buy the game? As long as the 'pay to win' model doesn't return, I have no issue with microtransactions (for cosmetics, emotes and other pointless crap) in a game where all future DLC content will be completely free.
5hr single player, and a clear pay-to-win mechanic that you find in free to play mobile games.

Nah i'm not paying £50 that can sod off.

Not interested in acting as a free beta tester for EA either.

I already own a DICE shooter and will happily stake money on it playing exactly the same but with lasers instead of WW1 rifles.

Expansion packs should be extra, microtransactions are cancerous, and I hope this type EA are using get classified as gambling.

So with nothing better to do, played for 5 solid hours yesterday, and I love it! I am liking the nuances between different character classes, and when its best to pick a particular one in the objective based games like Galactic Assault! Still having my ass fed to me the whole time though, but I am effecting the objectives now, think its great, still think its a shame you can't choose which map to play on, but I guess it keeps all the games full if people don't constantly bugger off to play a different map!

They tried that in the last version - but this ended up splitting the player base, which caused a lot of the players who had purchased the Expansion Packs to complain that there were 'never' any matches on the stuff they'd paid for... They won't be doing that again.

As with a lot of these games you need a balanced squad - quite often everyone goes for a single class and there's an imbalance - some way of communicating this beforehand would be good or some way of communicating with troops would improve the game massively - simple actions such as push forward, move left, move right, retreat/wait.. or something - could replace emotes. Good for older players but maybe not so interesting for youngsters...

It also depends on your team and the opposing team. Some players seem to be more interested in coming top of the pile as opposed to playing the objective and some teams are just so well organised whereas others seem to run around like ants on speed.

I bought this game primarily to enjoy multiplayer with friends however the squad system when playing the big battle Galactic Assault at least, is currently deeply flawed IMHO.

My friends and I can join as a group and spawn on the same side but we do not remain in the same squad so can't stick together or respawn on one another. We can see and find each other by using the green icons in-game and on the mini-map but respawns place you in random squads each and every time. That seems daft to me, especially as the first game and Battlefield 1 especially have this nailed, with far more functionality, (e.g. squad leader set objectives) and both were made by the same developer. Seems a very strange an retrograde decision.

Anyway in terms of the game itself, I have to say that whilst visually stunning and a great representation of the Star Wars universe and hugely enjoyable when it all comes together, it's all a bit chaotic, overly complex and unbalanced at the moment and I actually prefer the greater simplicity of the previous game. The heroes also seem incredibly overpowered as well and can scythe through waves of protagonists before being brought down and when there is more than one to contend with at the same time you've absolutely no chance, which can be extremely frustrating.

Early days though and will give myself time to level up a bit more to see if that improves things. And hopefully the developer will address the issues which are holding game back at the moment but right now I'm a bit underwhelmed.

Completely agree with you on the squad system. It’s effectively impossible to play with friends in a squad and appears to lead to an enormous amount of running after every death as you are unable to respawn near squad members. Nothing kills a multiplayer more than a big map and constant running to catch up/get back in to the action. Die.....run run run run run die run run run run die.......ugh

Brilliant, so much better than the old one and COD.

I would like to see the squad spawn / squad system from BF implemented though.

Watching closely as to what EA decide to do with this as that'll affect whether I decide to buy it or not. It looks very much like it is everything I dislike about Battlefield 1.

I hate the progression systems a lot of games have in place for multiplayer that mean you have to spend hours running around with st weapons as a st character getting killed every 20 seconds in order to 'earn' the weapons and players you actually want to use.

To me the progression of online multiplayer is in the skill and tactics you develop with practice, not buying or earning weapons and powers that give you a huge advantage over other players.

I'll be buying it this week as its all the boy wants for his birthday (on Sunday).

I don't like any shooter that has you leveling up to get better weapons/kit. If you are not in on day one and playing a lot you have, less experience and poorer weapons. It should be about skill. This whole model with multiple currencies, loot boxes, crates, upgrades and classes is just confusing.

To some degree I have sympathy with the devs/publishers. Its not cheap developing a game and you need to make a return. With the move to online the need to host servers is additional cost, however I have less sympathy here as in the old Counter-Strike days we hosted our own servers but the companies couldn't allow this as they didn't have control.

I have to be honest, yeah we'd all like better toys to play with in the game, but I don't feel I have been at a significant disadvantage weapon wise to others that are higher levels.

Would agree though I like it a lot, but i'd like to say

1. Squad Spawning and forming squads with people in your party.
2. Map selection, we all have favourites.

Because the last game was crappy anyway. I don't know anyone of my friends who bought it!

It looks like they've made progress on the game play, and it looks stunning, however I'm still not buying something with those godawful progression mechanics. The whole point of a shooter is to start off st and pick up new unlocks through using various classes, and finding the things you're good with.

COD:MW1&2 for me was LMG, BF1 I need more hours in but looks the same, maybe medic also. BF4 was Support/Engineer.

With a game looking promising, enough people buying in would make the DLC work.

Also - I'll wager EA have spent a fortune on advertising, possibly even more than development costs.

I've played for probably about 7 or 8 hours so far (multiplayer only) and I'm really enjoying it so far. The graphics are stunning, the battles and the sheer scale of the Galactic Assault maps are impressive. the gameplay somehow just 'feels' better than the first game. The squad mechanics are useless though - why can't I spawn on my friends if they're not taking fire? Why do I have to run half way across the map instead?!

Weapons progression is fairly standard. Get x number of kills with a weapon to unlock the next one. The card system though is needlessly complicated and, I'm still not convinced that I fully understand it!

It isn't perfect by any means but, for all it's flaws, it is a tonne of fun to play!

I wouldn't feel to bad, in the instance of EA its pure greed. They make staggering sums of money each release.

They just want to make as much as possible and they really dont care how they do it, hence the nickle and diming and gambling mechanics being shoehorned into a game at the expense of the end consumer and gaming experience.

The cost to run servers will have been factored into their overheads, but lets not ignore however that Developers/Publishers are deliberately moving towards multiplayer games as they lend themselves to generating extra money through micro transactions and associated nonsense. In which case paying for servers is just part of the cost of business.

Big SW fan (though I am developing fatigue with the series) and I even enjoyed the 2015 game, but EA can shove this one up their thermal exhaust port.
